Long Day Resizing My Images!

Today, was a long day! I had to go back and figure out why my site speed was so slow. Let me tell yeah! That is a tedious job. Especially, when you do not know where to start. The great part is I made it through. Well, at least all my images are resized...

SiteFeedback

I decided to test my site like 4 days ago because, someone from Site Feedback ,was kind enough to tell me my site was really nice looking but, it is lagging...And, he went on to tell me that I need to stick with a simplistic theme

...Oh okay, that makes sense...but, every theme I tend to get into has some sort of problems. I think I am just going to have to learn CSS to avoid all these issues.

Upon WA member Suggestion I tested My Site

Anyways, I went to test my site as the WA member gave me a link to test it with.

...And Oh was I really, really, really bummed by the score that I got. See image below

Okay, so you're probably wondering what does this mean. This means I failed miserably when it came to site speed. I didn't get an D or F.

.......I got an "E"......What the World....an "E"...

Okay so, of course, I was really bummed like Oh man, I have to fix this..and it is going to be a lot of work.

... I know because, I have to go into each and every post or page...sheesh!

I went to resize all my images. And it took me 10 hours.

I resized all images using Microsoft Paint...(Free on Windows computers) I am not sure about MAC

I timed myself because, I was really dreading this duty that called but, I did it anyways. And this the score I get now...

After seeing this score. I thought maybe it was a mistake so, I ran the test on Pingdom and wanted to see what it said...Here are the scores...

Wow! These scores sure are a lot better than that first hideous score I was shown.

....So, I am happy to say my website is desktop friendly now.

Okay, but there is more...

After achieving these higher scores. I was thinking Oh, I am so glad that this is ALL over but, then I go to test my site on mobile and this is what I see..I am losing 24% of my visitors from mobile. So, now I still have to tweak something on my site.

The life of an Entrepreneur...

If you have never tested your site and you want to know where you can test your site for free.

Here are some free websites.

Site Speed Matters

No one likes slow sites, and if the site is slow people tend to leave it immediately, which is not good for your site engagement or keeping your rank in the search engines.

I will have to continue with tweaking my site and improving my mobile speed or worst case scenario change themes again....

Welcome to the life of an entrepreneur....

Thanks for stopping by and reading this post...As, always have an awesome day...

Wow! I just tested mine with all 4, and each one is giving me totally different values. Which one should I trust the most?
Blessings:)
Suzi

I apologize Suzi, I have been working on my site. Okay so, when I asked site support today about my speed. They tested my site with Google

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

So, I would assume this is the one they go by only!

I would trust that one the most. Since Site support tested my site with Google...

Thanks for sharing:). I think this is the test that I did yesterday, but I'll check it out again:)
Blessings:)

Kisha,

It is great to hear that someone gave you excellent feedback on site comments so that you knew what to be improving.

I'm glad your work resizing the images has paid off.
Thanks for sharing the links.

I probably need to do the same thing. I hope you have a great week.

Thank you! I think it paid off so far. I guess I'll know over time and you're welcome!

Have an awesome week as well.

Great use of time Kisha. You will now be saving much more time going forward. You have now learned what not to do...:)

David

You're right David! I definitely learned to resize all my images going forward.

I have been working on images myself. Has made a nice difference in page load. :)

Yes, I never knew that just changing the image size would make a difference but, it did. I am glad to hear that your images have made your site speed up. I know it can be a pain...

I was wondering why my bounce rate is so high (95%), and then I discovered that most people will leave your site if it doesn't load in 2 to 4 seconds. I tested my site speed with Pingdom and got 16 seconds! Unfortunately, my problem isn't pictures. It's some other stuff I'm not at all sure about how to fix. :-(

Yes, you are right! The site still can be slow due to other issues. And, that is my problem with mobile. I was told that it could be the CSS file. It may be too large. One of the WA members told me to choose a theme with local CSS files and the file would not be too large. The only problem with that is I really, really liked my theme. So, i am debating on changing it or not.

Another, thing they told me that could slow it down is too many plugins. So, that will be a trial and error type of thing. I was also told to delete plugins that you are not using and delete themes that you are not using. If they saved in your WordPress.

Hopefully, we will be able to figure this out sooner or later.

Thanks for the links! I am soooo slow doing stuff with images in the first place... I am not a whizzkid like Loes...

Yes, Leos is really good. I am not the fastest myself, maybe because, I am still learning who knows but, I am made it through.

I think you get the hang of images sooner or later. It takes time.

Thank you so much for these amazing ideas, I'll give it a try.

You're Welcome! I am glad that they helped.

I still have thousands to do. I will have to hide my camera.

Tom.

Oh no, that is an awful lot...I probably would hide my camera too, if I had that many to do.

I know what you are talking about, I just created/resized 84 featured images, pfieww, glad I have finished that too

Phew...84! I didn't even count my images but, I don't think it was 84. I am sorry you had to go through this too!..That was a very tedious job. I thought I was never going o make it through.

After the 42th i got positive again, counting down;)

O.K......so now will you do mine?

Wayne

lol...sure Wayne, for you I will...

So sweet.....but i think I need to learn it.
Tell you what, if I get stuck, I'll holler your way.....
.....deal?

That is a deal, Wayne! Let me know...if you need help...
