What person point of view do you use when writing?

One day when writing I stopped myself when a thought had crossed my mind. Should I write about myself in third or first person?

I wanted to announce to my viewers about big changes that were coming to the website and had a hard time debating between the terms our administrator or I.

Although, I had rephrased the whole announcment and used the term "we" I couldn't help but to wonder what other people do.

Do you say I or we when writing articles? I'm a one person show, so saying we always felt odd to me, but I say it regardless because I don't like the idea of appearing self centered to my viewers. Is that weird?

Thoughts?

It sounds like the "I's" have it Michelle :) great post / question.

I often use "I" especially when I use my experience to explain something which is of value for the reader. It creates connection, while 3rd person creates distance.
It certainly depends on what you are saying and what you want the people to understand. There is no general rule.

Heidi's viewpoint is my own as well......
Creating that personal connection can be so important.....

It really IS important to create a relationship which is based on trust, (see my latest blogposts!)

I used to use 'we' most of the time, but people here recommend using 'I' because it makes your writing more personal. Now it is common practice for me and much better for the personal touch.

Very true indeed :)

It feels more personal to say 'I' and it helps the reader to feel like you are talking directly to them :)

That's true, but would that apply for website that are trying to stir away from the typically blog? Something to think about :) Although, I get wanting to connect with your viewers, establishing a connection does appear to help some

It depends on what I'm doing as to whether I do it in a journalistic or a personal style. For things such as reviews, I definitely do it first person, but if reporting on industry trends, etc., I write that in the third person.

Very interesting indeed, switching it up has occurred to me a few times.
