it scares the heck out of governments...federal reserve, imf, all that stuff...it will collapse if bitcoins take over - and bitcoins SHOULD take over (in my earliest opinion)

something like that.
All this does not make bitcoin ILLEGAL or anything, but it seems to me that the powers that be do not want to allow bitcoin and the likes of bitcoin succeed. It would be detrimental to them.
