How To Find Your Niche with Google
Google is a great place to do your niche research. Google will give you ideas on what problems people have and what solutions people are looking for.
Google has some hidden tools that are very good to use for your niche research process.
Here are the 5 Google research tools I use.
1. Think with Google - Find broad categories that interest people
Think with Google provides good reports on what people are searching for. One of my favorite reports is The Rise of Personal Searches. This report talks about all the problems people are searching for.
The cool thing about this report is that Google categorizes these problems into categories, which is essentially are all different niches.
5 Broad Niches:
- Auto
- Beauty
- Finance
- Fitness
- Pet Care
20 example problems within these 5 broad niches:
- Why is my car overheating
- Why is my car shaking
- Why won't my car start
- Why is my brake light on
- Why is my hair falling out
- Why is my hair thinning
- Why do I have dandruff
- How often should I condition my hair
- How much do I need to retire
- How to check my credit score
- Where can I get a loan
- How do I freeze my credit
- How many steps should I take a day
- How many push ups should I be able to do
- How many times a week should I workout
- What can I give my dog for pain
- What kind of dog should I get
- How to make my dog a service dog
- Can I give my dog ibuprofen
- Why does my dog stare at me
5 example niches that you could specialize in:
- How to maintain your car's health
- How to manage hair loss
- How to plan for retirement
- How to keep track of fitness activity
- How to take care of your pets
Use this report to identify which categories interest you and what problems you will help people solve. You can also use this same report to get 300 blog posts ideas.
2. Google Search - Find more specific problems people want to solve
Start doing your own searches within Google Search. You want to find niches that have many specific problems that you can recommend solutions for.
In the Google Search bar, type in a specific category and hit enter. Let Google bring up related content to this search.
An example niche search would be: How to maintain your car's health
3. Google Search Suggestions - Find more specific problems
Once you have started with one search in Google, you will use Google Search Suggestions to find more specific problems.
The Google suggestions are related searches that people have typed into Google. You are essentially tapping into all the problems people are looking to solve related to this one big category.
To get suggestions, just click your cursor in the Google Search bar. Google will show you more search related suggestions.
- How to maintain your car to last many years
- How to take care of your car engine
- How to keep your care engine in good condition
- How to take care of your car paint
- How to take care of your car interior
- How to maintain a care with high mileage
- New car care tips
5 categories that you could write about within your car maintenance niche:
- How to take care of new cars
- How to take care of cars with high mileage
- How to take care of your car's paint
- How to take care of your car's interiors
If you own a car, then you know this list will continue to more problems like:
- How to repair chipped windsheilds
- How to choose the best tires for your car type
- How to prevent sun damage on car's dashboards
- What is the best car wash soap to use
- What is the best car wax to use
And so on...
4. Google's People Also Ask & Searches Related to - Find Related Problems to niche
You can also use the Google search tools that show up inside your search results. You'll usually see these 2 additional areas for related content.
- People Also Ask
- Searches related to
Use these areas to further explore your niche to find more problems and ideas for solutions.
People Also Ask
- How do you maintain a car engine?
- How can I keep my car running forever?
- How do you prolong the life of an engine?
- How can I take care of my car?
Searches Related To
These searches can be very similar to what you see inside the Google Search Suggestions.
Ideally, you want to record your ideas and write a plan for categories and keyword post topics to write about. These are easy to copy and paste into your research document.
At anytime, you can click into any of these related searches and use these areas to keep researching your niche.
5. Google Trends - Validate The Niche Popularity
Now, you want to validate that your niche is popular which could make it more profitable. You can use Google Trends to see the trend of your niche topic overtime.
Let's look at the car maintenance niche.
Enter car maintenance into the search box and hit enter.
You will see a trend chart for these keywords. The trend for car maintenance started out big in the year 2004 and has since declined. However, car maintenance has maintained a consistent trend from 2008 to present day.
Ideally, you want to choose niches that are in the up swing. So in this case, you would want to narrow down car maintenance more to find popular trends within the car maintenance niche.
Car repair has more consistent trend over time which is a part of car maintenance.
The car maintenance niche is still very big. Just think of all the car types you could provide maintenance tips for. Trucks, SUVs, electric cars, small compact cars, vans, etc. You can continue to break this category down until you find a very specific category that has a good deal of interest and mini categories.
So that's how to find your niche!

Hey Mary Jane. Thanks for stopping by and chiming in here! Hope this all makes sense. This is how I have discovered and still discover the massive of our online world.
Thanks, Kim this was a fantastic review, But I am still confused on one point. First I use Jaaxy all the time. But I do not see the line graph. Where do I find it? What am I doing wrong? I am currently exploring a new niche now, so this was so timely for me
Great, thanks Sandy!
The line graph shown is actually from Google Trends. https://trends.google.com/.
Personally, I start with Google research tools and then validate the niche popularity in Jaaxy and find content keywords. That's just me though. There's really no one way to do the research. As long as you do it in some form or fashion.
Kim

Ha, well I'd like to think so! But I'll take your word for it :) I am just trying to be helpful around here. The how to choose a niche question comes up alot here.
you're right -- niche keyword research is work! ... everyone wants that instant smash hit -- well, of course, we know it doesn't quite work that way -- some effort needs to be exerted -- guess that's why so few do it! .. (like getting exercise at the gym! ...lol ... )
