Niches...this is the scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it is rather exciting!

What is a niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, a problem, a need or a want. Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online. Watch the video below...

Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche
!

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The more you enjoy doing something the less it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

But Really, a Niche is a Group of People

In the simplest form, a niche is really a group of people looking for stuff. When you select your niche, you want to avoid being too broad with your niche selection. What people fail to understand is the fact that there are millions of people looking for stuff online within what seems to be the smallest of niches, but they really are not.

Because of this, I have spent some time putting together a blog post outlining how you should approach your niche selection, how to avoid going too broad with your niche, and how to really narrow it down to a group of people that are more specific and targeted.

READ BLOG POST: A Niche is a Group of People Looking for New Stuff

I provide you with some real life examples of how to break down a broad niche into more specific groups. There is also a very active discussion there if you have any questions about your particular niche or you want to join in the on the conversation. ;)

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited. You can either choose your own niche at this point or you can choose the "make money" niche (that should be your choice if you have no idea what niche to choose).

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You need to enjoy helping people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any niche can become a "full time" successful business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that niches can always change. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the "make money" niche.

If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate. Go here if that is you.

Hi Hannah

Not sure what you mean. You pick a theme and start to create your content on the page. I personally like to do that in draft mode until I am ready to publish it.

Explain more please.

I applaud your emphasis on helping others. That is exactly what WA is all about.

I am with you on the give up part. It is easy to do sometimes. It is easy to get distracted and get off the path. Maybe by doing the premium we won't give up because then we are financially vested.

I have just gone through this lesson again. I have found out it is very refreshing. Going over the lessons again is making me feel very confident. I still have some doubts about various things. I am going to wait to get to it again and then post the question. I am hoping that going over the lessons again make more knowledgeable. All right, let's go to the next.

I think the free keyword tool is off because if you go to google and put them in quotes there is a lot more competition then that.

Ors why are you putting them in Quotes? When people are doing searches they don't put things in quotes.

On the wa keyword search tool does any of the number represent the clicks per month? Also what does the last two numbers on the wa chart stand for. One of them says article power and the other ppc?

Hello Jazmyn, the PPC stands for Pay Per Click.

Yes, the first column, Searches, represents the amount of times that keyword is searched for in a month. Article power is letting you know how well your pages/posts could potentially rank. and PPC power is letting you know how well that keyword could do with Paid-Per-Click (PPC) advertising. they are both on a scale of 1-10

Should I make a new email address for my website, particularly to put on my privacy policy page?

Hello Jonathan, I do not know if it's 'particularly to put on' your PP page, but I know it is needed there. So the answer is still yes either way.

Much success to you.

On the certification courses, it covers that. I believe you activate them all. The courses will walk you through everything step by step.

I saw them but when I tried to go back to find out,I was unable to find that part again..Thank you for helping me..I'm new to all of this so I want to make sure I follow everything and do all of it right.

Hello Joann, I will answer the second part as I have never heard of the Kirki plugin.

The only page you should be excluding is your Private Policy page. Meaning you do not want it to get indexed by Google, as it has duplicate content in it. You have stated 'pages' here. You do not want your 'pages' excluded from being indexed, just the very opposite. If need be go over that lesson again to be sure you are doing the correct thing and comprehend it.

To exclude that ONE page, ( your PP page), scroll to the bottom of the private policy page and click on the 4 boxes that say ROBOT/S.

That will take care of the exclusion for you.

I hope this help.

Regards,

EJ
