Why doesn't the results from WA or Jaaxy match the Google KW tool?
I see this question asked at least once a week, and it is a valid question. One would assume that the almighty Google would definitely know what they are talking about, so that means that the WA keyword tool and Jaaxy must be wrong. Plus, Google has no reason to lie...
Or do they?
If you look at the Google Keyword tool, it is actually called the Google Adwords Keyword tool. Adwords is Google's tool that they use for advertising. Adwords made Google a little over $42 billion last year. That's some serious jack. That may be enough reason to skew the results, and make keywords look like they have a little more competition than what they actually do. Or a lot more competition.
If you are researching a keyword, you need to put the keyword in parentheses, and go to the last page of the Google results. The WA keyword tool and Jaaxy automatically do that for you. If you are not using those, and you are on Google, there is an easy way to do this. Place this in the address bar:
https://www.google.com/search?q="keyword+to+search"&start=900#
Replace the "keyword+to+search" with "make+money+online" or whatever your keyword is. This will take you to the last page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a message similar to:
In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 445 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.
For this example, your "QSR" would be 445. There are 445 competing pages for that keyword.
So, if you are going to use Google for your keyword research, I would personally use that formula in the address bar, skip the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, and skip Google's bloated results.

Thanks for the this tip. Now it's possible to find good keywords at Google to. After attending the Google Sniper program I was a bit frustrated that I could not find a single good keyword.
part of the reason is Jaaxy does not just measure google... and all these numbers that are cranked out are at best reasonable estimates... I use jaaxy and it works fine for me... it's not really about the numbers, but rather the results following their parameters and guidance has served me well... I have used wordTracker and Google... jaaxy works better for me and my style of keyword phrases and words.
Hi Keith, have a look at the following post that I made about Jaaxy Keyword Data.

Let me know if you still have questions after reading this.
I'm sorry, maybe I was unclear on this blog. I agree with most of what you said in your blog. I was trying to say that one should not base their keyword research using the Google Keywords tool, because that data is not what we need when we are researching keywords.
The only thing that I disagree with you on your blog is at the end when you say "QSR is the single most important piece of data you can have as it tells you how many websites are competing in Google for the particular keyword. Although QSR is derived from Google search results, if you choose keywords based on QSR below 400, you will rank well in all search engines."
I believe that the competition on the first page is the single most important piece of data you can have. Luckily, Jaaxy does a great job at assisting with this research. The reason I say that is because even though competition may be low, I am trying for the first page of Google. If all top 10 search results are established, have perfect SEO, and have content that is regularly updated, I will more than likely not make it to page 1 right away.
Everything else in your blog I agree with, sorry I wasn't more clear when I blogged about it.
Hi Keith, I appreciate your blog post and response to Carson here. I am still getting my head around all of this keyword and page rank business and your blog post did bring me some more clarity on research. I would appreciate it if you could expand on your final paragraph in your response to Carson. Are you saying you research the top 10 search results for your potential keywords in Google, and if they are all well established sites with the criteria you mentioned, then you eliminate those keywords to use? And how do you use Jaaxy to research the top 10 sites SEO?

That answers my question. Thanks very much.
