Is it Working

Last Update: January 13, 2015

A conversation in live chat between 2 full time Internet marketers and long term members of WA prompted me to write this. This was the gist of it:

"the majority drop out after 3 to 4 mths of hard work when success is just around the corner"

I've passed the 4 mths barrier so is it working?

In a word, yes!

  • Traffic is improving.
  • I'm starting to get comments that aren't just from WA members.
  • Clicks on Adsense ads are increasing.
  • I've made few small affiliate sales.

Most of this is from organic traffic, I've used social networks but not heavily.

I've suffered from all the self doubt that most of you here will go through, but I now really feel confident that this will work. When I started it was a struggle to write even 300 words now I can do a 1500 word review and enjoy it!

I've built 2 websites that I enjoy writing for, (I want to buy all the products I review!) I've written a guest blog and am planning another. I can't begin to detail how much I've learnt at WA but am chuffed to bits that I now know enough to sometimes be a help to others!

So for all of you who are at that tricky 3/4mth time, DON'T GIVE UP, the experts (katskatskitchen & Shawn Martin) will tell you success is just around the corner. :)

I can smell success... looks like she's just around the corner. :)

But, can anyone invent a detector please? Something like an electronic machine with blips and sounds ticking telling you "Hey, success is near you.. she's 5 steps away from you to the east, catch her!"

Outstanding post, Kathryn! Fighting the self-doubt and a slight bit of impatience makes it difficult. It's a slow go, but all of those little improvements in response and getting ranked add up.

Glad your success seems to have made the corner, so to speak!

It seems to be so easy to drop out in those early months because you are spending long hours working on sites, but seeing little to no visible outcome from that effort.

More than anything, I think it's a matter of trusting that you are following the right steps and that things are still happening, you just can't see them.
Reply
Kathy331 Premium
Yes Vince I agree, trusting yourself is a big thing, :)

Thanks for sharing this! I've been pumping out content like crazy. It's good to know that down the line, it all pays off.

We live in a world of instant gratification. Amazon ships stuff within a few hours for a few extra bucks.

But building a business out of a blog takes time. You've got to build a following and get people reading your stuff. That's what I'm trying to get to. It's a snowball effect.

Just like you, I also have a 2 year plan with this. 18 months if all goes to plan.
I consider this time to be my apprenticeship and learn the basics. From then on I plan on online marketing to be my primary line of income.
I believe in building a good solid foundation for the future and I will not compromise that by rushing through. I know the money will come...of this I have no doubt.
In the past I have spent tens of thousands of dollars and years of my life building a 'bricks and mortar' business only to realize I had made a prisoner of myself in something that consumed every part of me. Learning this is a walk in the park in comparison.
I think unfortunately for those that drop out they simply don't treat this as a business. It takes effort and time and even more importantly a dream and a passion to change your life for the better.
If I have any advise to those just starting it would be this...

Don't rush it.
Take it all at a pace you are comfortable with.
Be consistent and take action with what you learn.
Hang in there...the results will come.
Believe in yourself and ask for help when you need it.
And most of all....enjoy it!

Thanks for this encouraging post Kathy.

I'm at the 3 month mark now. I have 4 websites, but 2 main ones that I work on. So far no results, no pages ranking well, virtually no organic traffic and zero income. I've just started to get into creating sign up forms and building email lists, as I've always felt that is the best way to go, even before I found WA. I won't give up on this, but it looks like everything will have to take a major turn for the positive to start seeing some results. There is not even a hint of results yet.

I think it matters not what business you start, online or off, everyone will get a little discouraged at certain times because we want to see a little fruit for our hard work. I have owned and operated an offline business for over 20 years and know for certain there are down times and up times.

Now that I am online and trying to replace my income with Affiliate Marketing and even though I actually have a 3-5 year plan to do so, I am VERY impatient and want to see at least some buds on my tree. I am just over the 3 month period and chopping at the bit to see something more happen. So thank you Kathy for helping me to again read a little hope. :-)
