How I Got Over My "Facebook Fear"

I don't know what it is about Facebook that causes me so much grief in sharing my site. I guess because with the other social media sites I don't actually know most of the people personally, as opposed to Facebook everyone of my friends is someone that I know personally, with the exception of one person that I met on WA.

I know usually I have good advice to give, but tonight I'm sorry to say that I don't have any good advice to give to you on the issue. I read so many inspirational things and get pumped up to share my content, but when it comes time to share on Facebook I clam up.

The one thing I could think in that moment was "Who is going to share my site when I don't even have the balls to share it myself? Who is going to promote me when I can't even promote myself?" I should have prayed for courage.

But instead I went to the freezer and got out my bottle of Brandy, mixed some with some coke and downed it. Within minutes I was on Facebook inviting everyone to come and like my page and I was using the broom as my "microphone" trying to get my son and nephew to do "karaoke" with me in the kitchen to some contemporary Christian music. HAHA. I know what you're thinking. This so called Christian woman getting tipsy around her kids at 9'oclock in the morning. I never said I was perfect!

Let me just say I'm not an alcoholic and I usually don't drink during the day like that. A bottle of Brandy lasts a few months around my house and I typically drink a drink to relax one night a week after the kids are in bed. I don't know what came over me to make me do that this morning, but I did and there's nothing I can do to change it. Tomorrow is a new day and it won't involve any Brandy!

Thank you for the Laugh I really needed today. I am not real big in to social but it is a really good source of income for us so we need to jump in with both feet--BF--Twitter-G+ --Printerest(now you can send a messge) the big 3.

Lol you are funny and I bet with a bit of brandy in you your even better! Nothing wrong with doing something for yourself once and a while....I say go for it when ever the mood hits!

Yea I need to sit down with some Brandy when I do my writing.

Sounds like a good plan! All the best!

My advice is if you don't want to don't do it. Facebook is not the be all and end all of sharing and loads of people have successful sites without using it. :) Beverley

True, but I already created my business page. I may get side-tracked once in a while, but I NEVER move backwards. Onward March!

Good point, Beverley. Sharing with current FB friends is really just a starting point. A way to get some initial likes.

We can't (and shouldn't) rely on our friends in order to be successful. Our sales need to come from the general public - complete strangers. And when they start finding our pages, at least they'll see a respectable quantity of likes (and be more LIKEly to like it themselves).

Personally, I feel odd at the idea of liking a page that only a handful of others have liked so far.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I just completed the course to create and integrate social media into my site. I also, have no problem sharing on twitter, google +, or Pinterest, but when it comes to FB, I have been holding off. It's like I don't want to be one of "those people" shoving their businesses down the throats of their friends or wonder what they will think. I don't want to create FB from scratch and try to link with a bunch of random people because I feel that is counter-productive and creating much more work for myself than necessary. I know the social media aspect is important, but I also think about the fact that my ultimate plans include building multiple websites and spreading my business into niche markets that are completely different than my current niche. I wonder about sharing now and then going through the steps all over again with another site and perhaps losing credibility with those that may think the first business "just didn't work out," because they simply don't understand affiliate marketing or what I am building. I know this probably all sounds stupid and I should just share, considering the only other option is to purchase ads on FB and I would imagine that can get expensive quick. Hell, maybe im REALLY over thinking all of this and I should just go grab the brandy and follow your lead. LOL! All the best to you!

Nice, I do think its going well.

LOL. Yea I didn't think about the multiple businesses and them thinking it just didn't work out.

LOL, yea well when someone sees me posting about one niche today and then in a couple months, I need to post about a totally different business, it could mess up my credibility. I know, probably over thinking it

It depends on how you phrase it. Make it an announcement:

"With my X site well underway, I'm now moving into additional markets, starting with this new website that's all about Y. Come take a look, and be sure to click LIKE while you're there. I'm loving this business!"

Later...

"Still expanding... My Z site is ready for you to take a look. Don't forget to click LIKE, and be sure to let me know if you have any questions."

You have to create your own world!

Sharing is very important to every one!

I want to do some contests, but it doesn't make much sense right now with only 7 likes, one of those likes being myself lol

If it only takes a Brandy & coke to get you going you are going to be one heck of a blogger. Can't wait to see your content.

I also went through some initial hesitation about sharing my site with personal Facebook friends. However, I finally decided to just "man up" and do it.

Now it's getting a few likes and sending a visitor my way once in awhile. Yours will, too.

Bart, did you go through and invite each friend or just post your page in your status?

Both. I did a status update plus did the invites

Same here. But I'm thinking people don't always notice the invite and most people's news feed is so bombarded by the time they get on your status is long gone down the list.

If you post & invite, you might get some likes.
If you don't, you won't.

At least initially, with your FB friends.

This isn't about getting everyone on board, which is impossible, it's about "putting a sign out" and seeing who stops by. The majority won't, and that's fine. In marketing, very small percentages are all that's needed. Mail order marketers jump for joy at a 2% response rate.

You go, girl! For me, it's Jameson's occasionally. Just do it. What's the worst your friends can say? That they don't like it? So what. Just keep it up. It's only their opinion.

See, nothing to be scared of. It's not like it's a spider.....lol
