Chewbacca is Dead!
Sad to read that the actor, Peter Mayhew, who was inside the Chewbacca suit from the Star Wars films has died at the age of 74!
Although he spent most of adult life in the USA he was originally fromLondon here in the UK. He was an incredible 7ft 3in tall!!
Apparently despite being the character from 1977 to 2015, he did not supply the voice of Chewbacca. I say voice, it was more of a growl, which was recorded from various animals and mixed together to come up with the noise.
So, why do I write this today?
Well, despite his character being a household name and one that, myself included, tried to mimic on many occasions, nobody outside of the film industry knew him.
He was famous without having to show his face. He made a lot of money without ever having to show his face or be on camera!
This made me think about the many people who have online businesses, us included, who shudder at the thought of having to get on camera to embrace the modern wave that is video marketing!
Personally I have a real hang up with the sound of my own voice on camera (I know, I need to get over myself!). I know that I will get over this foolishness but in the meantime I create videos that do not have me in them.
This enables me to embrace the video wave but just not fully! When you look around there are a ton of videos made with Powerpoint and a voiceover, or even without. Others have just images with subtitles over them and some music. Or like me, I use Content Samurai to create videos with someone elses voice over the top and the words on the bottom of the video. That way I am covering all bases for now!
We have videos without us on screen that bring in sales for Clickbank products fairly regularly so like Chewbacca, you can make money without having to be on screen.
Tell us your thoughts on being on video. Does it scare you, like it does us? Do you already do it? Let us know in the comments below.
Have a good weekend everyone.
May the Force be with you!

Hi Jon.
It is vexed question, to be famous or not.
Back in my hometown in Nigeria I was something of a minor celebrity. It does tend to cramp one's style, as there are certain expectations which accompany the status. On the other hand, it makes it easier to get into places.
It's probably simply to be loaded (as in monetarily) then the money can do the talking. 😉
Regards,
Chewbacca will always be with us because he is now part of "The Force". Great run as an actor.
We have still to do our videos and need to get going asap. No fears of being on camera, just inertia. Love the camera.
May the Force be with us all.

I think a lot of people don't like the sound of their own voice as when I hear myself it's nothing like I think I sound. However I take solice from the fact that it's mine, regardless of what others think. Paul
That’s exactly where I am Paul. It’s the not thinking that it sounds like you that is weird!!
Great Post.
In one of my old jobs I had to speak at large meetings in front of 20 to 50 people and found it easy, not sure why but I guess it was because I knew the subject....However - When I saw a video play back of the speaking I was always struck with 2 thoughts......1. Who is that old bloke? and 2. Do I REALLY sound that bad!!
Human nature guess,
Mike
The thought of getting up in front of an audience fills me with dread even though I was happy doing it in my twenties!! Weird!!

So sorry to hear this news. Chewbacca was my favorite Star Wars character.
I have to say that I dislike the sound of my own voice. I have had to get used to it and whenever I stop recording I have to get used to hearing myself again. You don't have to have yourself in videos but when it comes to your brand its a lot better that people see you.
I've used nicknames for myself but showing my face really makes a difference. It gives you that personal connection.
Thanks for sharing and hope you have an awesome day as well! :)
