Welcome to our profile and thank you for sparing some of your valuable time to find out a bit about who we are. Far to many people come online to create their dream lifestyle and hop from one opportunity to another without giving any of them the correct amount of effort of time to work. Rome was not built in a day as they say! We have been very guilty of ‘shiny object syndrome’ in the past so it is vitally important to us that you do NOT go down the same road!

Together we have over 18 years of experience working full time online and have seen many things come and go.

We live in the UK in the stunning English Riviera, so called because of its unusually warm and healthy climate compared to the vast majority of Britain! We actually have palm trees that grow here!

We have a great desire to help others create the kind of lifestyle that we enjoy – no boss, no commute, time freedom, creating financial freedom which gives so many choices in life.

We are an advert for all of you that might be asking yourself “can i do this?”

Believe me, when I (Jon) started online in August 2008, I had just been laid off and did not know what to do. I could just about send an email and surf the net!! Now, fast forward to today, and I co-own an online business that makes us money each and every month and is growing exponentially.

My beautiful wife Debbie was also laid off from her corporate job a year after me in 2009 and she too decided that being the master of her own destiny was the way to go! We absolutely love the freedom that having an online business gives you. Being there for your kids, (we have 4!) both doing the school run and being there for ALL their school plays, open days, appointments etc is priceless.

Having both been laid off, we realised that we did not want to rely on someone else designing our future, so we took the steps to create our own! “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” —Thomas Edison

Believe me when I say we have tried a whole heap of things along our online journey to get to where we are. We have tried online franchises, we ran a successful ecommerce business in the holistic wellness arena for several years, affiliate marketing, local business marketing (we still have a few clients who we help with their online marketing) and much more.

Hobbies and Interests

We both love anything to do with holistic healing – we are both Reiki attuned and believe greatly that many ailments are caused by the mind and are preventable. We also have 4 kids ranging from 11 to 25, 3 of whom live at home, so they keep us busy – bet you can relate to Dads taxi!!

Debbie loves to make jewellery and I love football (I have supported Bristol City FC since I was a boy). I also love nice cars and am working towards owning an Aston Martin at some point soon.

We also have 3 big dogs which take up some of our time – Honey is our Golden Retriever and Miley and Bear are our 2 Newfoundlands.

One of our ambitions is to work with charities in impoverished countries enabling them to have clean water and education. We will definitely be involving the kids as we feel this is a great life lesson for them.

We feel confident that we can share our ideas, thoughts and strategies with you, so lets get communicating. Please feel free to get in touch and tell us where you are on your own online business journey.
We wish you all EVERY success on your online journey.

Hi there Jon, many thx for your post! Wow u have been around. In from South Afrìca. I live in Pretoria. Wevecbeen here for 3 years now. Ivecbeen battling to find a job in healthcare as In a qualified enrolled nurse but to no avail. I also have a 28 year old disabled son who I live with and care for with the aid of my 22 year old son who's in varsity studying biochemistry. My older son and I decided to try online business in March after a lot of research we finally found Wealthy Affiliate. So we are still newbies at this but Jason, my disabled son has done several computer coarses. In brand new at this tho. It is complicated at times. I've had to view some of the videos a few times before it sinks in. But we will get there. My niche is yoga as I love exercising and yoga exercises stretch the whole body. I'd like to do a reiki course as well as aromatherapy. I've been told I have healing hands so I'd like to try something like aromatherapy and co.bine it with reiki. But that's the future. For now I want to concentrate on my yoga and may be combine it with healthy eating. What do u think?

Thank you for your very nice post. I have only just started with WA, and it was interesting to read about your early computer experience. It’s a bit like mine at present. I live not too far from you but there are no palm trees. I live in the middle of Dartmoor, surrounded by some of the most beautiful country. Although it’s a bit wet and misty now.

Hi Jon and Debbie,

I would like to thank you for following me. I am now following you as well.

Your profile is very interesting and uplifting. I really enjoyed it.

One of my favorite singers, George Michael, was from London and Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. He is well loved and missed by his fans!

George's best friend and partner in the 80s pop group Wham, Andrew Ridgeley, lives in Cornwall, but I'm pretty sure you both already know all this.

Thanks for indulging me!

Continued great success to you both,

Jon,

Your story is inspirational! It also sounds familiar, I was laid off from a corporate management position and replaced by someone less than half my age with no experience for a third of the salary.

It was the last straw for me, I am determined to never rely on someone else for my finances. We are still in the thick of the transition to self employment and fighting to stay afloat till we gain traction, but I am determined to make this work as well as my new venture into real estate.

It appears you have been very successful at e-commerce and I am sure I can learn a lot from your experience.

Best regards!

Hi Jon and Debbie
Thanks for reaching out to me I’m looking forward to working with you and all my newfound friends online. My wife (Illana) and I live in San Diego California for the past 20 years, originally from Johannesburg South Africa. I’ve been in the automotive industry all my life 25 years with BMW and the last 19 years with Mercedes-Benz. I’m looking to retire (from having a boss) and am looking to establish a full time future online. I’m still very new to all this and it seems very overwhelming at first. I am taking one day at a time working through the training, I’m really glad that I attracted WA to me together with all my new friends with similar goals. I’m like a sponge at the moment and am excited to get as much valuable information as I can to get us up and going. Thanks again for making contact with me.

After reading your bio makes me really want some of what you have! Right now I think the only thing I have is the dogs!! I have 2 rescue pups- a chihuahua and a shih tzu. I love them both so much. I live in California. Right now very rainy but in the summer too hot for me.

I am disabled so need to find an income I can make from home. I am not afraid of the work but living on disability for the last 20 year with lots of medical bills I have no money to invest to make money. So from the basement I will try to work my way up to the ground floor. I definitely did not graduate from college to live like this so I will do everything I can to change it.

I hope I can learn from you. If you have advice, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

To be honest David, when we joined we were simply looking for an affiliate program to promote! We had been in MOBE when it got taken down by the FTC so we were a bit battered and bruised!

Having found WA we have since learned a ton of stuff and it has propelled us forward in our business. So, whilst we knew a lot already, it has been invaluable being here.

How interesting John. I love Reiki poetry and I blog about healing foods. It has been said that you attract who you are and I have found that to be true. Seek and ye shall find is another scientifically spiritual principle. I have discovered that just my thoughts lead me to the people who can help me. I had been looking at sites similar to Wealthy Affiliate but that were out of my price range and were constantly asking for more money, when I struck up a conversation with a man at Taco Bell, which I rarely go to, about a book he was reading on cholesterol. Before our conversation ended he told me about Wealthy Affiliate. In line with what you said about disease beginning in the mind, much of what I have read says stress is a huge contributing factor to the destruction of our health. Another thing that we have in common is the desire to help charities supply water, education and food to people in foreign countries. I contribute to children's charities in Uganda. The government there does very little for these children and they have started taxing the donations made to them.

You have four children and I have 4 grandchildren. Please let me know when you have a website up. If you don't list it here email me at healingfoods.siterubix@gmail.com and I will comment and use your affiliate links if I see anything I like, want or need.

Hi Jon,

I ask for your thoughts...
I am curious if when I get up and running, whatever my niche is or maybe more than one, am I correct to assume that it is a good idea to use video as a medium to promote?
Do y'all out there use video?
The reason I ask is because I just got turned on to a fantastic looking tool called "Vidbullet" and they are having an introductory offer that seems smoking. For lifetime commercial purchase, it is only $68 instead of supposedly $198 annually once this launch is over that is ending soon. It is a real slick video making tool that has voice over included to your text, tons of images, immediate upload to youtube or vimeo and a whole lot more. It seems like a no brainer as it also comes with a 30 day money back guarantee.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback and for those interested in this super slick video making tool, it is called again, "Vidbullet" and I believe the promotion ends today.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi John,
Video is a very good medium to use and it is growing in popularity all the time. I read somewhere that by 2020 over 80% of what we consume on the internet will be video rather than the written word.

Pretty mindbending really.

Over the last few years there have been a ton of video creator softwares launched. Explaindio, VideomakerFX,Easy Sketch Pro, VideoMotion Pro, Videze, Reevio, VideoRobot, Flickstr, Videtar and on and on and on!!!!! Most of those have been within the last 12 months!

And not forgetting ContentSamurai which is on a monthly subscription.

There is seemingly always a new one coming out every few months.

If Vidbullet fits your bill then take a punt. I haven't looked at it myself as we already own several of the ones I have mentioned!!

Hope that helps

Hi Jon-

I hope y'all are still up over there.

After looking at a couple of what you shared with me (Thank You) I am even more confused, of course.

Of what you shared with me, what you recommend for someone just starting. Of course, I could wait but I am tempted to "take a punt' as you say because the offer may change and it is a great price for unlimited lifetime use.

Your referral of what you like and what has worked for you would mean the world to me.

Thank you so very much, John

Sorry for the late reply John. UK time and bed caught up with me!!

Personally we invest in ContentSamurai which is a monthly cost, not a one off cost but that is because it is so simple to use and also gives the ability to make square videos which are far better on social media and smartphones.

We always look at 3 things whenever we are deciding whether to invest in a tool for our business.

1. Are we going to use it within the next month? If not, a newer shinier version will probably come out before we need it!
2. Is there a money back guarantee that allows you to change your mind? Beware of the ones that insist on you proving that you tried to make it work and couldn't!! Yes, they do exist!
3. Which other marketer is offering the best bonuses to promote it. Sometimes you get marketers that give bonuses that are better than the tool you are looking to invest in!!

Hope that helps

Jon

Hi John

Personally I would let the illness subside then come back to the training.
Looking at your bio I would maybe suggest your niche to be the thing that you are passionate about - concentrated botanicals, essential oils, natural remedies etc

Your niche needs to be something that you can:
a) talk about for ages
b) have a lot of products to promote
c) have a hungry crowd

I think your possible niche fits all those criteria.

Food for thought

Your suggesstion is what I once believed but know of so many more who know so much more that to whom I do not rank as well as the concern of profit margin leads me towards the road of "gadgets/as seen on TV" products that are so curious and from what I understand have a bigger profit margin? I am not sure whether nature or such or stress but I feel so challenged to be positive which is normally what I believe is a positive portion of my being...I am just so ignorant in even navigating social media to even feel slightly confident coming from a place of authority yet alone repeat it and engage on a regular basis.

Perhaps, I signed up for a program not well suited for me???? I should get out before I do myself more damage?

What does not make sense about a mini Etsy? Etsy 2 Good? No need to be an expert but add info to listings from personal experience????

I am not a blogger...?!?!

Hi John,

I think you need to stop self sabotaging yourself, stop doubting and just move forward.

If you ask most of the people here at WA they will tell you that they did not have a clue when they started. Both myself and Debbie had no internet knowledge when we started over 10 years ago. I could just about send an email and surf the net!! We are self taught and have been going strong for over 10 years now.

There is an awesome quote from Henry Ford “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.”

It is spot on!

Mindset is the biggest hurdle to people trying to make an online income. If you do not believe in yourself and the platform on which you are learning, then you will not succeed.

Hi Jon and Debbie, thank you so much for following me.

What a great journey you two have! Your story is very inspiring.

I think everyone wants to be their own boss but without realizing the effort, time, and money involved.

I never wish to be a boss I just wanted to give another try even I have no assurance that my action lead to success!

It is true Jon that “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dresssed in overall and look like work” — this is an absolute truthful statement!

For myself, I’m a newbie in this business and I’m so hopeful to become successful.

So an Aston Martin is your future car? Which one? DB 9 or DB 7 or perhaps a different model...
ME TOO Jon! I LOVE that car, and I will own one really soon!

I think your passion for an Aston, dogs and helping people, ( I currently live in the Philippines, where there is a LOT of help needed!) and your kids are similar ideas and believes we share.

Many thanks for the follow and great inspiration after reading your bio.
I am very much a novice at the online affiliate marketing, but very keen to learn all about it and grow another stream of passive income. I currently make money from my passions of motorhomes and sportscars, but ideally want to grow my property portfolio to give me decent enough passive income to then enjoy life to the fullest, then just concentrating on my online stuff.
When I'm next down on the English Riviera, I would love to come and meet you both.

I want to be an authority in my niche. I promise you I'm not going to go after the shinny objects. If I manage to make a few dollars along the way so be it.

Hello Jon & Debbie ... thank you for the follow. You folks are definitely not newbies. I'm curious ... what was the attraction to join WA?

The English Riviera ... to this Yank that sounds like an oxymoron, but Google led me to Torquay - Paignton - Brixham and indeed images of this area of Great Britain look like the French Riviera.

Indeed 2006 - 2009 were scary times here in the US as well. Our Financial markets were melting down creating high unemployment and many sad stories of people loosing their life time jobs.

I love football as well (American football), but I'm developing a taste for what we call soccer (your football). It is a growing trend here in the US and has, I believe, become bigger than Little League Baseball for young folks (boys and girls).

You folks are a great addition to our rapidly growing WA community. Lets stay in touch.

If I ever get some revenue coming in my idea was to donate half to charity I have been to Uganda and have seen what we call 'hardship' firsthand.
Good luck in your venture. I am following you no.

PS It is refreshing hearing from people who want to give our bounty to others and not rather than have 6, 7, 8, figure income all for themselves. Thanks,
Tracy

I'm so pleased to meet you both. Thank you for connecting with me. Of course, I follow you back.

You both seem to be charismatic and courageous people. Loved to read your bio. Great quote - I admire Thomas Edison!!

Hello Jon!!! Thank you for sharing your successes. It's inspiring.

I have been in and out of the internet marketing for a while but I have not been serious about it until now. I have learned alot since I joined WA. It's been a year. I've made three dollars through Google and $3 through Amazon so far.

From your experience, any thoughts or suggestions on how I can improve my earnings?

Hi Hà
Thanks for reaching out.

I took a look at your Rock Climbing for Women website and it looks very nice and clean.

The very first thing that I noticed is that you do not have any banners in the right sidebar and this will be a big reason why you are not making much money from your website.

You need to add several, I would suggest. An Adsense one, an Amazon one, and if there are affiliate programs for climbing gear maybe one from there as well.

Also on your review pages/posts (for example https://rockclimbingforwomen.com/petzl-grigri-belay-device-review-grigri-2-and-grigri-advantages) you have no call to action.

Yes you have an Amazon link but nothing to say "Get your Braking Device at Amazon HERE" or "Find out more on Amazon HERE"

Never be afraid to ask for the sale!

Hope that helps and we wish you all the best

Excellent! Thank you for your suggestions. I will definitely look into this. I am not sure how much advertisement to put on a page without inundate the reader. Great idea about the call to action. That is good advice.

Take a look at large magazine type websites and you will see that they have a fair bit of advertising on them. I personally would not see a problem with 3 banners in the right sidebar and then call to actions within the review posts.
Hope that helps

Welcome to WA!

You both obviously have a lot of experience in this "world", and I would appreciate anything you would like to share.

Love your dogs! When my kids were little we had a Golden by the name of Martha and a Newfie by the name of Fred (Emilie's North Bay Ebony Knight - but Fred to us!). Now a Shih Tzu by the name of Rocky - going from "large" to "small" has been an adventure and a very pleasant one. Rocky's been the love of my life (don't tell my husband - although I think he knows) since I got him at 10 weeks - he's now 16! When he was little, my job took me to all 52 states and Puerto Rico - Rocky went along on the planes in a passenger seat! Now we get to stay home and work WA.

I wish you continued success.......

Thanks for following me, I also am following you back. I am really in the beginning stages of things, I joined in Oct/Nov. 2017. I have been slow at the content, for 2 reasons, procrastination and busy, I guess 3 things. I let busy get in the way. I am off for at least the next 6 weeks from work, I had a knee repalcement 8 weeks ago. The goal is to pour the remaining time off into WA, now that I am feeling at little closer to normal.

Hi Jon,
Welcome to WA. Thanks for following me. It was great reading your Bio. After my divorce many years ago, I settled in Torquay and moved in with my Mum and Aunt. I kept a boat near Torpoint and then in Dartmouth. I have many happy memories from those years spent in Devon.

I'm looking to replace my 'Day Job' and work full-time online. Retirement for me is all about choices. I want the freedom to do the things that matter to me. I have found WA to be a great community and a fantastic learning platform.

Jon And Debbie,
So many thoughts come to mind in reading your Bio, all of which I would like to respond to, given the proper amount of time.
At this moment I will start with just two
1.) Exceptional clarity of your content. Drives my attention like a smooth running Aston Martin through countryside.(though I've never been, I know their reputation) I would learn so much about writing composition reading your posts...lol, so I will!
2.) A charmed and balanced life which I find a great deal of comfort in reading about...so unlike the bustling chaos of our own at this moment. Alas, too many commitments stretches the energies thin. However I do take time to Stretch and Read something new each day to keep my mind relaxed and balanced

Looking forward to the future prospect of learning more about your thoughts and insights. Love love what I've read so far...Shine Brilliant till then

Thank you David for such an amazing message. We wrote our profile in the hope of inspiring people to keep going when the going gets tough - which it does from time to time.

We do thankfully - now - have a balanced life but that has come with practise. When we have a really full on busy week we always counter it the following week with a more relaxed one.

We are big into mindset and gratitude journaling (blog post coming soon!) and feel that this has been a major factor in our successes in life and also business.

We love to give value and look forward to sharing a ton as we go along this WA journey.

Thank you again for your kind words and we wish you all the best

Hi, Jon/Lake! I just read your profile and it sounds like you guys have this online thing figured out. I'm just getting started and I'm still trying to decide on my "niche". I was going to select personal development, but Kyle said that would be a trap, that I should narrow it down.So now I'm thinking about using Brainwave entrainment for a niche. I've been using personal development books and tools for years, and I believe in the holistic approach towards wellness. I've been using brainwave entrainment for years. I've had over 21 major surgeries including cancer in 2011 and I always use holistic techniques along with mainstream medicine to get me through them. Some people might say that if you had so many surgeries, it doesn't look like it's working, but, personally, I don't think I'd be alive or willing and able to get out of bed if I didn't use them! I've read about Reiki, but I haven't tried it yet. I won't take up any more of your time, but if you get a chance, can you let me know what you think about BWE for a niche or maybe Solfeggio Frequencies, or Reiki? or would I be better of using something more tangible? Thanks for foilowing, I'll follow you back!

Hi Rich
Thanks for your message and reaching out.

There is a lot of talk on the internet as to whether you should have an interest in your niche or not! Many so called gurus say you should and many say it doesn't matter.

After 9 years online, I strongly believe that it really helps if you have an interest otherwise you get bored and/or stuck with what to create content on.

Kyle is spot on when he suggest you niche down from the huge personal development niche to something slightly smaller within it.

One of the biggest determining factors is are there enough products that you can promote in your chosen niche.

For example Solfeggio Frequencies - just that keyword alone gets over 12000 searches each month and the competition is low, but are there enough products to sell?

Brainwave entrainment (brain training) and binaural beats are hugely popular and there are a ton of products you can promote.

If you have enough info that you can create content about then this could be your niche.

The world has become more and more accepting of mindset training etc in recent years and it is not likely to slow down.

Obviously, the choice is yours at the end of the day, we just wanted to give you a bit of helpful advice. Until you get into it there is no telling how successful it could be, but as long as you have a large hungry audience, you should be ok.

Hope that helps

All the best

Jon and Debbie

Thank you very much for your reply and, yes it does help me alot. You're right, it's confusing sometimes deciding which niche! I'm passionate about brainwave entrainment and your searches indicate that it's popular now so I'm going to give that one a shot.

Thanks again for your help and best of luck and continued success to you both. Be sure to post a picture of that Aston Martin when you get it!

Torquay is lovely. Know it well.
Its a long story how we ended up here but we just love it. It is a beautiful country and the temperature is divine. Nowhere is completely crime free but it is very safe here and we personally have never had any issues in this area.
The cost of living is reasonable and thats why a lot of expats from UK, USA and many parts of Europe have made their lives down here.
Thanks for connecting.
