John, these errors are caused because the elements are not present in your theme code. Viewport is a meta tag in the page header. Without it, the other two issues will occur. I am not familiar with MH Newsdesk. Is it a "mobile-friendly" theme?

I believe it is, I was wondering though whether they held back some useful stuff for their paid version. I'm really not that attached to it so was thinking about changing it.

Thanks for your help!
John

Most theme companies do hold back a little on the free themes. However there are many themes that are " mobile-friendly." I tend to stay with the basic theme stuff as they load fast and Google likes it that way. Alex

Hi Alex,

That sounds like good advice to me, I'll take a look at some other theme options and see if I can find a better one.

Thanks again
John

Just looked at your website on my phone and you're right, it loads super fast!

what theme are you using?consider the theme and also if you have jetpack installed it can be a major problem.Disable it if you are using it.

I'm using MH Newsdesk as my theme, but I don't have Jetpack installed.

Hi John, that's easy -- 400-600 is the acceptable. It can be more, it shouldn't be less. :-)

Longer ranks better around 1500 words.
As long as the content is of great value.

All my first page rankings are 2,000+ word posts.

I'm a big believer in long copy ranks better.

Check this out:

It's a study on content length and rankings.

Hi Julian,

That was what I was starting to think as well.

As I said in my question, I've had mixed results so far, but that could be down to competition and possibly the quality of my writing, however I was leaning towards the idea that more words is better.

Thanks for your help
John

Just had a quick read through it, very interesting data analysis. Will go back and read it properly!

Thanks
John

WA recommends 1500 words, others say 1000 to 2000. I do about 1200+ words. Like Steveo5770 said their isn't an exact number of words but hopefully what I shared will help.

There is no best number. Many things affect how your posts rank and I don't think the number words always helps.

I have posts under 600 words that rank great and 1,000 word articles that don't. If every post in the top 10 for a given phrase is over 1,000 words, you probably need to be close to that.
Little competition may not mater as much.

This all my opinion and I can't prove a word of it. Just my experience :)

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your input, much appreciated

That was my problem as I verified through the SEO plugin and the theme updated, thanks for the FTP tip too.

Apologies for the delayed thanks you!

If you remove whatever you did to originally verify (such as the HTML code) then it will become unverified after a short time. Keep the code there.

Hi everyone,

I'm finding the new comment system much easier to work with and am getting a controlled stream of comments to my site, which is great.

I know that Google

Absolutely! And remember the goal is to add new post frequently to your site. So this shows more interaction between you and your readers. Over time you become an expert in your field. Go for it. Don't stop asking for comments!!

Yes (short answer). Longer answer, yes until you get enough organic traffic to get comments naturally. Your ranking in Google will improve as you get more comments. So keep asking for comments on every new post you write. ~Marion

Thanks Marion, that's helpful to know

Once you are engaging with customers/readers, you won't need to use the comments system here much, if at all. It's just to give you a head start with google rankings, because they love engagement and will show your site to more people.

So to cut it short, the more comments you get on each article or post the better.

Hi Akky,

Thanks for your prompt input, that makes sense to me.

Hi all,

I've installed the Yoast SEO keyword tool which has really helped me to focus my SEO efforts, but I was wondering about the keyword density advice. The training that

I just do as training says and it looks more natural. In fact I often just put it in the 1st paragraph. I noticed that one of my pages was on page one yesterday but not my actual site. I don't sweat about rankings just now though as I still have a very long to do list!

I do one at the beginning and one in the last paragraph and when I post it ranks 2-7 within 3 days usually and hours if I fetch.

fetch?

When you go to your Google account GWS go to the search section in the drop down menu and click the fetch. You are allowed to enter up to 100 URL address for Googles search engine per month to go fetch your latest post or page or something you edited and want indexed as fast as possible.

I tried it once with a new post and in 20 min the post was on page 4.

Hi Travis,

That's good to know - I'm still having issues with ranking at the moment, can't seem to get on the first page at all!

I wondered if it was due to my site being relatively new in Google terms or whether I was missing an SEO step.

Thanks for your input

Good luck and best wishes
John

What they say here in WA class room works.

I've used the fetch facility a couple of times, but still not seeing my rankings improve - the latest post I created had zero competition (absolutely no other websites had my keyword phrase) so I thought that would definitely hit the front page, but no success so far!

Need to revisit the lessons and work out my mistakes!

Your also dealing with a heavily competitive niche. It takes more to climb the top.
