Most of you that know me well by now also know that I often go under the name "Old timer". I have been with WA for 4 months now, so I no longer consider myself a newbie. I'm not confident enough to do any training courses yet, and I think I'll leave that until I have my two websites up and running.

SO WHAT AM I HERE BLOGGING FOR:

Well I find blogging suits me just fine as far as imparting knowledge to others. It's easy to use and even easier to compile. So I had a good think last night about topics that I know something about, and might just be able to help others with.

Most of the technical topics are completely out of my league for now. Besides, there are an incredible amount of intelligent WA members that can do a far better job than me explaining the inner running of a website.

OK. OLD TIMER, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO TALK ABOUT:

Well there's one essential part of the WA platform that I'm very good at. You guessed it!! It's writing. I have been a prolific writer since I was a child. Now, my spelling isn't great. Neither is my grammar. Thank goodness I can edit it automatically as I go.

In my High School and University years I excelled at report writing. It's because of this that I have decided to do a series of blogs about Content writing.

Now I know you are all probably feed up by now with all the emphasis placed on writing good quality content. We all know that we need to write copious amounts of it in order for Google to rank, trust and find us. The more content we write, and the more keywords we utilize, the more chances we have that people will actually find out sites.

Q. What's the most important part of a website?

A. Writing Customer gathering content. Or, if you like, reaching out customers by constructing good quality, engaging content.

BUT I LIKE IT KEPT SIMPLE:

Face it, most of us like it kept simple. Some 'IT' experts think they have make a training blog that's very simple for you and I to follow. However, they don't realize that what is simple for them is hard for the rest of us.

I DON'T WANT TO BE LIKE THAT:

I wanted to create a series of simple, easy to read, writing tips for ordinary people like you and me. So I decided to do a group of blogs that will have a number of tips on each one. I don't have a clue when I will be writing them, it won't be daily, it might be weekly, who knows. It all depends on if I remember to do them (It's that Old Timer again).

SO LETS START HERE:

This is for those people who don't know where to start or are suffering from writers block...

TIP 1:

You have chosen a Niche. Do some research on line. If you don't know where to start than simply place the idea of your Niche into Google and press search. For example. Your Niche may be about dogs. Write "Dogs" in google and see what comes up.

Hey Presto. You have:

1). Dog Breeds.

2). Give Puppy a Bath.

3). How to be a responsible dog owner ... and the list goes on and on.

To start with choose three topics. Write them down in a diary.

TIP 2):

Go to Jaaxy and find a key word for the topic you have chosen. Let's say you decided to start with. 2). Give Puppy a Bath. You could put that string into the keyword search tool, or you could choose to put 'Bathing your dog'. Play with the words, sometimes you need to swap some around, or drop a word, to help you find the best results.

For example you may change it to 'Dog bathing'. Save all those that score well and make a decision from your saved list as to which ones you will use in your blog. You may choose to only use the one.

TIP3):

Take your keyword phrase ( known to many as a 'Long Tailed Keyword' ) to site content with you (you can carry it if you wish), and place it in the title section of your blog.

Just to digress a little, keywords are actually a somewhat like dogs, they can have long tails, short tails or no tails. To put it into perspective. A long-tailed key word will have 3 or more words in it'a structure. (I personally call a 2 word string a 'Short tailed keyword'... but that's just me).

Anything longer than about 4 or 5 words can become a bit difficult to look after.

Now begins the fun part because you still aren't sure what to write about.

Do some more research online. DON'T COPY ANY CONTENT.

Make notes from the articles you have read, and remember to include anything you personally know about the topic. Do it in point form. Why? Because this will make it easier for you to write in your own style, using your own words, when you start to construct your blog.

Take these notes to site content and divide what you have found into at least five headings.

THAT'S IT FOR NOW:

OK , so you want more, but I told you I'm an old timer and it's time for my late afternoon nap.

You'll just have to keep an eye open for the next series of tips coming up...

Whenever I can remember to do them.

All The Best. Jim

Thanks Jim, Excellent post here! Looking forward to more.

Thanks Tim.

I understand what you mean because that is the trick I also picked up, at first I WA was confused that how could I write about a key words that have already been written with good content? My trick I always look for the missing link or so I tackle my content from that angle adding relevant ideas I got from research.

I am not saying it is a good trick but I find it helps me find what to talk about.

Thank you Lovisa. I think a lot of people are under the impression that research means copying . In fact , research means learning. Jim

Excellent post Jim - we have been members for a similar amount of time - and I am an old timer too - look forward to reading more words of wisdom from you :-)

Sometimes it is far too easy to get involved in the detail and the tricks and miss the greatest trick of all K.I.S.S, keep it simple stupid.
As I am in the middle of the training your post was a very timely call to arms.

Thank you Are. The KISS principle was the first thing I learned about selling about 42 years ago. But don't tell anyone (about the years I mean). Jim
