Our Site Was Not Hacked (Whew!)

Let me tell you some great and very relieving news, Ladies and Gents……

Our new site that was transferred over to us from our colleague in Taiwan was not hacked!

You will remember in my recent post from last week, I explained we were fearful our new domain that was being transferred to us from our colleague in Taiwan may have been hacked at the point of the foreign registrar’s servers.

Holding Domain Names Hostage

After receiving an new email from our colleague in Taiwan, he told us he consulted with the registrar and found out the nameservers were simply not pointing to the correct hosting platform…

Somehow this happened during the attempted transfer process in August. Different nameservers were inserted into the DNS records. We still don’t know why.

So we changed the DNS records to the correct nameservers pointing to the hosting VPS (virtual private server) company.

Easy enough, and Voila! Our New Site was UP and working again!

However, we still couldn’t figure out WHY when doing a Google Search for the term, the Meta Description still was showing this unknown Siteworx company.

This remained very concerning.

New Message: Your Site Was Not Hacked

Fortunately, we received a new message today from our colleague who found out from the foreign registrar the site was not hacked.

Here is what the registrar tech support told him the reason was for this:

Great News Ladies and Gents…

We have the site in our hands and we are Back in Business!!

Backing Up the New Site: Failure

First, let me say I am thrilled that backup plugin WP Clone has been recently regularly updating their plugin once again.

IMO WP Clone is the easiest and fastest way to create backups, and I continued to use it even when it wasn’t being updated.

Since the plugin started updating again 2 months ago, for my main MMO site I’ve been using WP Clone to create backups regularly and have had zero problems. I have been overjoyed with its efficiency.

However, for our newly acquired website we are taking over, when I attempted to backup the site up in WP Clone, the backup failed due to this error:

The error reads, "Table'/wp_login_fails' is marked as crashed and should be repaired"

This was the first time I ever encountered this error.

Can someone here suggest how I can remedy this issue?

All in all, we feel highly relieved that the site is up and working and wasn’t hacked, and are happy to deal with this minor backup issue.

Cheers,

Kaju

“My Trip to Bora Bora” no doubt is my most elaborate work to date. The title should be self-explanatory.

Take a trip with me and Cherokee to paradise, our ultimate South Pacific vacation. Meet Puffer the Blowfish, Pepsi the Dog, and our other Special Friends we met along the way on our once-in-a-lifetime trip to French Polynesia. Now captured on video.

Check out the sequence of 26 still images from our trip synchronized perfectly with the background music track. This was extremely challenging but I pulled it off.

This original work is dedicated to Cherokee, who starred in this video – she is my ex-partner who passed away in 2016. I will forever hold you in my heart, Cherokee, and I know you have ascended to a better place.

Grateful that we once shared a life together. One day we will meet again.

Thank You,
Kaju

Note: There are no actors here in this video. They are all Real people and living things.

A bittersweet tribute to a loved one who will always be remembered. And loved. Through time immemorial.

Hi, Kaju.

Way over my head, but thank you because I'm sure that through your experiences, it will become less overwhelming when we come to such a hurdle in our own progress.

Would/could you have not just moved everything over to the platform here, and if not why.

For me, the simplicity is that I have everything that I need all under one roof here at WA.

I know that you are in the advanced stages, but would that same simplicity not imply to even worldwide mergers and acquisitions?

Your wisdom and feedback are always valued.

Your amigo just North of You.

Paul Mindra.

Thank You Paul - my Amigo from the North for your concerned feedback:)

There are many reasons why the site will stay at another location, mainly due to my partner. Moving the site here would actually make things more complicated.

We could all learn from each other. That's a wonderful thing.
Hope you have an excellent week ahead:)

Kaju

Awesome.
Let me know when you want some links to your sites.

If they are of value for others then I have zero problems sending a few here and there.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule.

Peace and love.

Paul.

Fantastic Paul:)
Peace and Love...

Great news Kaju. Glad you got it all worked out.

Daily backups are a must!

As for that error "Table'/wp_login_fails' marked as crashed...

The table "wp_login_fails" is not part of the default WordPress installation. So it's likely been created and used by a plugin. Do you have something like the "Login-Lockdown" plugin installed?

At any rate, a site admin or someone with sql database experience will need to look into it. Since it's part of your WordPress sql database it is a concern. As in, how did it become corrupt? And if that table is corrupt, are there any other issues within the database.

Best wishes,

Michael

YES Michael, the previous owener DID have a security plugin called "Login-Lockdown" plugin installed.

Are you implying what I think you are?
If I deactivate the plugin "Login-Lockdown", might the problem go away?

I will try that - even though granted the potential corruption in the sql database is a concern.

Thanks,
Kaju

You could remove the plugin if it's not needed. I do not know if it will remove the database table or not. That depends on how well it cleans up after itself.

If you remove the plugin, and you have access to your MySQL or MariaDB (whichever one it's using), you could check to see if the table still exists. If so, have your admin remove the problem child. Of course, backup before doing anything with database tables.

Good luck with it.

Michael

I deactivated the plugin, but it still produced the same error.
Will take your suggestions and others, and keep trying.:)

You too Tim!
I just put up my 1st 10 second video on Tik Tok today...Hllarious!
I think its a great social media medium

Hmm, your challenge is an interesting experience with all the technical stuff that I know nothing about. I wish you the best the best to figure it out. One question though, the WP clone plug in reduces your website speed? I recalled Jay’s training, that the max of plugins is no more than five. Other WA members inform me it was a load of crock and states you can have many. As a newbie in building a website on WP, how would I know how to deal with all these technical stuff including the plugins? I hope Site Support will be able to help you with that issue you mentioned.

I currently have 8-9 Brenda, and I see no change in Site Speed, so I think 5 might be too strict. WP Clone has never slowed my site down, but I deactivate it when I don't use it.

Gotcha. Thanks for letting me know.

Of course Brenda:)

Thanks again Brenda:) Send me your YT link and I will Subscribe. You can Subscribe to my channel here:)
