The One Thing for Affiliate Marketers

To anyone that is doing affiliate marketing or plans to do affiliate marketing in the near future, I want to talk about the one thing. If you have ever read The One Thing by Gary Keller (Founder of Keller Williams), he talks about what it takes to ultimately scale a business using, you guessed it, The One Thing. So I want to talk about The One Thing and how I see it applying to our affiliate marketing businesses.

When it comes to affiliate marketing, we have many different jobs or tasks that need to be completed in a given day, week, month, and year. These tasks include things like social media posting and building, SEO and keyword research, website building and design, analyzing and data gathering, and of course writing out posts. It can be a lot to keep track of. So this is exactly why I write this article, to help you focus on The One Thing.

My Mistakes and How I Didn't Follow The One Thing

There are many mistakes that affiliate marketers like myself and others have made. A lot of these I made not knowing that one task takes priority over all of these. instead, I would focus on too many things at once and ultimately not get anything that was meaningful done, or get stuff done that was not as great of a quality.

Google Analytics and Search Console Watching

It is tempting to watch your stats on Google Analytics and Search Console, but its the equivallence of watching paint dry. The only thing you are going to do to yourself by doing this is discourage yourself from the lack of results. It takes time for your audience to build and for the stats to show up eventually. On top of that, you are taking away time from the one thing you could be doing (read until the end).

Focusing on tasks that are not as important

When it comes to building out an website with the intent of monetizing through affiliate marketing, a lot of people get caught up in things like the design of your website and making it more eye catching. While site design is nice, it doesn't mean anything if it is not converting your visitors. In fact, there are websites out there that are probably not as fancy or eye catching. Yet, they are making more money than those eye catching websites. Why? Because they focus on delivering the one thing to their visitors without worrying to much on a lot design.

Focusing on too many social networks

This is one that I feel needs to be addressed. Lately I have realized that when we focus on trying to master many social media platforms at once, we ultimately end up mastering none of them. If there is one thing that you should do, it is to learn how to master one social media platform before moving on to the next.

So what is the one thing?

Kyle, Carson, and everyone in the Wealthy Affiliate Community emphasizes it a lot. So you should know this answer. Have you guessed it?

ITS CONTENT!

Without content, there is no website, no social media pages to share on, no posts to ask for coments on, and ultimately no money. Content is the one thing that ultimately push your business forward no matter what.

Have you mastered the one thing in your affiliate marketing business? Let me know in the comments below. Also, did you master one social media platform first?

If all I had to do was write content, I would be one happy woman. Have I mastered one social media platform yet? Hmmm no but I am only really focussing my efforts on one. Still learning I guess. Anyone wanna swap content writing for Social Media and SEO ( other than the Keywords obviously) That one I've got down.
Thanks for a great post
With Grace and Gratitude

Key element no doubt. I have yet to master either but I'm in for the long run with my current schedule. It's good to read that I am not alone in getting this project off the ground, but I will stick it out and work thru the issues that arise. Thank you for your post. It brings everything into perspective. Best regards.

Absolutely! I like it... we have to be selective and pragmatic. We can't do everything. But the content stays as the most important part of all our activities.

So true Jessie! Good article and I trust many of us will concentrate on this very important truth in 2018.

I needed this reminder! I have been all over the place trying to figure this and that out and looking at my stats which you are right, has discouraged me terribly! In my site manager is shows my content at 80%, not sure exactly what that means but it sounds good (kind of).

I have not mastered any social media platforms.

Great post! Thanks for sharing.
My answer is - that I believe so:) We'll see... Without results, I can not be sure if I have mastered the one thing or any soc.media.

Yes it is!
