Motivation and persistence

We are constantly learning here at Wealthy Affiliate, but do we take the time to learn from our friends and family as well. They are a great source of knowledge. I am going to give an example to everyone on how motivation and persistence works. About a week ago my granddaughter that is 21 months old taught me the meaning of motivation and persistence.

We had finished dinner one night and there was a particular treat that she wanted at the time but we did not want her to have it at that time.

The first thing that she used was a laundry basket to get to the top of the counter. We saw her and took the basket from her. This did not slow her down in the slightest. She then used a storage tote to try to get on the counter. We took that away from her. She then got a cushion and a medium-sized box and placed one on top of the other to reach the counter-top. We took that away but this did not slow her down. She then got a phone book, a plastic toy container and a mat placed them one on top of the other and tried to reach the counter-top again we took all of these things away. She was starting to get frustrated by this point and told all of us NO NO for taking away what she had built. We thought it funny at the time that a 21 month old was scolding us.

It got me to thinking about what she had truly done. She had persisted in trying to reach her goal and was motivated by the treat that she knew was there. What an amazing example she had give to me not only in trying to reach a goal but in not letting others stop me from reaching my goal. With persistence and motivation we can reach any goal.

I hope this can be of use to each of you. It certainly changed my views in a number of ways.

Thanks,

Jerry

It's always wonderful learning from what comes so naturally to others, like children, and even animals.

I learned my biggest lessons in persistence and patience from my dog. When it comes to securing food, he just never gives up no matter what. ~Mark

Loved it Jerry! Learn from the Little Ladies and there will be Little to No Scolding later in life lol.

A great object lesson in goal pursuit. What a winner she is!

What a wonderful true story! See your goal and never stop reaching for it! Amazing what we can learn from small children.

Jerry, I‘ m sure your granddaughter will be successful, especiallly with your guidance.
:-)

Thanks Jerry it did. I know there is a deep message.

But may I please suggest something.

Please keep an eye on her. =))))

Frank your brother!

Great article my friend!

even when I am asleep

=)

now that is motivating! hee hee hee

Yes, I know that's Grandpa's job!

A child has to be taught how to be negative by adults who are always complaining about having to do anything.
We took our daughter to the squash court to learn to play squash. As she was young she did not know how to give up trying to hit the ball. I was watching her throw the ball up and swipe at the ball. I did not count how many times she missed hitting it but it must have been near 50 times.
20 years latter she was so good she started playing in the men's groups as women were too easy to beat.
Make a positive attitude contagious to all around you.

Hello Jerry, that is a beautiful example of motivation and persistence. In my particular activity (Karate) we say “with peace, perseverance and hard work, we will reach our goal.” I think your granddaughter is an old soul in a young body. Good for here.

Very well could be.

There is money sitting on my counter top, but I can't reach it, anybody got a Wealth Affiliate to help me get it ?

And I'm sure all teh voices in her head were telling her "Go, go go!"

A simple yet powerful lesson and story, Jerry. Thanks for sharing this...and if your granddaughter ever decides to give a lesson on life, let me know, lol.

She is always teaching me especially in patience. She has absolutely no fear. I plan to teach her to always go for her goals. She is partially deaf and is delightful to be around. Jerry

Great story, Jerry! She's one smart cookie. It's not easy to discipline and protect and allow the freedom to try at the same time.
Good observation and analogy for us to learn from.
Thanks for sharing.
~Bob
