There's a thing called GOOGLE!

Last Update: July 04, 2019

Hey fellow WA friends,

Today I want to share with you something really really basic yet powerful.

But it's often neglected or underestimated by many people.

And this applies to literally EVERYTHING you do, not just your website, your affiliate marketing business...

So I often get a lot of messages from people asking me about this, about that...

First of all, I want to say that I am willing and happy to help if you have any questions.

But there are just too many people asking questions that can be VERY EASILY solved by simply typing your question in Google.

Again, I'm not writing this post to nag or complain. But I really want everyone of you reading this post to learn this ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING and that is...

BE RESOURCEFUL!

If you want to succeed or achieve the results, the goals you desire, honestly speaking, you gotta be resourceful.

I'm not saying you can't ask questions inside Wealthy Affiliate or ask me questions personally. We are all here to help. So feel free to ask.

But in order for YOURSELF to achieve the next level in your business and in your life, you also need to learn how to be resourceful.

That's why I said this doesn't just apply to online business. It can be applied to everything in life.

When poor/unsuccessful people encounter a problem, their first reaction is to whine, complain, etc.

But when successful people encounter a problem, their first reaction is thinking about HOW to solve the problem.

If they can't solve the problem themselves, they don't stop there. They start finding the right people, the right system, the right solution, that can solve the problem for them. That's being resourceful.

For me personally, I encounter problems every single day.

For example, I started building my own course, I started using ClickFunnels, EverWebinar, Facebook Ads and many many other things.

But I'm not a tech guy.

If you've tried any of that, you'll know there are a lot of technical details that need to be setup in place in order for everything to work. It's not as simple as what other marketers are saying who are trying to sell you something.

And Google is my best friend. Even though I'm not a tech guy, over 90% of the problems already have solutions out there on Google.

If I submit a support ticket every single time when I encounter a problem, it'll take me years for me to get everything set up the way I want it to be.

For those stuff that's just out of my technical ability, I outsourced it. I hire the right "WHO" to help me get it done.

And that's the same for you as well.

Google has most of the answers you are looking for. And it doesn't require you to have any technical skills to use Google, right?

So next time when you encounter any problems, regardless if it's about your website, your online business, your life or anything...

Just GOOGLE IT!

That's the most efficient way for you to find your answers and move on.

Of course, if you can't find the answer you want, then continue to be resourceful. Go and find the right "WHO" to help you, ask the right person, ask the right community. And that's what Wealthy Affiliate is for.

Wealthy Affiliate is to help and support you but WA is not Google, nor is it God.

So let me repeat myself again...BE RESOURCEFUL. Do your best to find the right method, system, or the right person and get your stuff done!

Hope this helps.

Remember...

Google It!

Hi, honestly I think it all depends on the nature of the question. For example if I run into problems concerning affiliate marketing, it will be crazy to just google it, rather it’s only logical to ask the WA community who are living breathing people and willing to help. Google is amazing and it continues to improve but in a lot of ways not as good as a human mind that could think in a whole different dimension. But when there is no human or no body willing to help then I could easily google it sort of.

Hi Jerry ,

I like it when you say the phrase "Be Resourceful".

However, I like to raise this issue that Google is not 100% right all the time.

We still have to study the answers that came up from google. Not all resources are 100% useful.

Maybe you can write a next blog on "How to Recognize the Right Resources".

Just thinking aloud.

Cheers!

Hi Jerry, you are quite right about google. Myself I had once fixed a fridge, a T.V. and did a hardrest on my phone.

Its easy when you apply all your mind and get things right in front of you and start chasing them.

So many techs can stay out of your way and you can save alot when we encounter a problem .
And this is good example, some of us find ourselves here in this community because we were busy what can work best for our lives interms of online business.

Thanks alot for the sharing. Its great because we sometimes forget what to do when we see something new here.

You have put into words what I have thought so often. To succeed, people have to learn to be resourseful.

Google is my best friend. More often than not, I can get answers and ideas faster by Googling something than asking for someone to stop what they are doing to help me.

Plus when you use Google to help find answers often you can become aware of potential issues that can be expected.

Be resourceful is excellent advise

You are so right Jerry, you can get the answer to just about everything by using Google. Sometimes it takes you to change the wording and sometimes 2 or 3 times even. Just keep trying and you will get an answer.

Well said here with this blog and you are right, it doesn't mean we can't ask within WA but trying Google is also a good idea.

Ain't it the truth -- Google has many of the answers.

As far as WA goes, it seems like it would be more helpful if more people typed their question in the black search bar at the page top before asking in here. Very often their best answer is going to be a referral to the very tutorial you could find yourself.

It's kinda like our own version of Google.

H Jerry,

Sometimes people like the easy way out - you know the answer so just tell me the answer. In doing this, they do not have to go find it themselves. Little do they realize that they are preventing themselves from being resourceful in finding the answer for themselves so that they do not have to depend on some else to give them the answer.

Thanks for sharing to remind us that we can be resourceful.
Much success to you!

Kind regards,
Nichola

Google search is my homepage because I use it so much! Great advice for those who are lost and not sure where to turn sometimes.

My 2 resources that I use every day are the search bar at the top of WA and Google--there's rarely anything that I can't figure out with those 2!

Gosh I Google everything.
Its my go to for all my questions, then I sometimes ask on here.
Trouble with me is I hate bothering people so I don't ask as much as I probably could do.
I go to google instead and try to figure out what it is I need to do to solve my probleI even ask google before I go to a Doctors about any ailments lol

Couldn't agree more, Jerry. Those who are (or learn to be!) resourceful will succeed faster than those who do not seek out information on their own. People are continuously learning, and with the technology available to us, most answers are but a few keystrokes away.

Having said that, when I have a question, I draw a line, and once I reach it, it is no longer efficient for me to keep looking when I know someone else knows the answer. So, for even those who are resourceful, know when to continue searching, and when to ask for help!

Don't immediately request help if you haven't sought the solution yourself (you will learn more if you find your own answer), but don't don't waste too much of your own precious time either! You may spend 1/2 a day seeking something that someone here could have helped you with in 5 minutes.

Know the line.

I use Google all the time at work, for Excel tips and tricks, or the medical terminology I don't understand.

One thing I think is fascinating, my kids will ask me for help with their homework and the first thing I always ask them is "did you Google it?"

It is amazing how many math problems are avaialable online. Literally, all I do is just start typing in the math story problem in Google and it usually auto fills the rest for me. Crazy.

BUT, I have definitely been guilty of asking before Googling, so thanks for the reminder!

I search everything on Google, and I thought everybody does, because that´s what makes keeping a website profitable, right? Because people are searching for the keywords we try to rank on. I do a lot of "how to do x" searches. :D

Sometimes I don´t find anything online I can understand, though. I read the instructions over and over again, and still don´t get it. But then, it probably wouldn't help even if i asked someone, unless it was someone who can explain it really clearly.

If somebody here is in a computer or technical stuff niche, I´m sure you will be really successful with your website, if you can offer really simple instructions for people who don't understand technical stuff!

People like me, who are not good with computers or technology, are most likely to make those Google searches about computer problems. And we need VERY SIMPLE instructions to even understand the instructions.

Funny title, but so true. The last thing we want is to create lots of people who are dependent. We each need to be able to solve problems. The problems get bigger as you go up the success ladder, so while you're at the bottom dealing with small problems, it's important to master that.

Jerry,

This is true to form. People everyday are lazy and want the answer to solve a problem. And yet they don't realize all of the solutions are there on google. Or better yet on Youtube.

Thanks for bringing this up and hopefully a lots of people see and share this.

Awesome advice Jerry. If I can't find my answer here then my next port of call is Google. I try not to bother people here in P.m.'s as I know they are so busy.

Of course if I fluff up my websites
then I turn to Site-Support those guys are so awesome.

Then again if I get the likes of Jay (aka @magistudios) on live chat I will bound in to pick his brains as he is awesome too. That man is super intelligent. :)

Thank you for the post Jerry and great to catch up with you again.

Hi Jerry, right you are! It's hard sometimes to figure out why and how Google goes about it's business, however, it does normally have the answers we are searching for.

Also, I've started tinkering a bit with Quora lately. It's a great place to ask questions. The answers may not be immediate but you do get answers and sometimes from many different view points.

Thanks,
Cal

Great post!

When I was in my 20's in one of my first management jobs, I had a boss who would continuously preach "be resourceful" just as you have done here.

For the several years I worked for him (and many since as friends) I heard "be resourceful" more times than I can count. The lessons I learned from him I have tried to pass down to my children, telling them the same.

So happy to see his words echoing once again, but spoken by you today. Thanks for bringing back a good memory and reminding me of an excellent lesson :)

All the best, Shannon

Jerry, you're on point here!

Google is my FRIEND ha. Hardly a day goes by without me asking Google a question. And you know what? Many of the answers are from other Bloggers who are also Affiliate Marketers. Occasionally you pop up. A big smile hits my face!

Then there is YouTube that I often use when I have a technical issue. I love YouTube. My channel has had over 8 million views and 13k subs. Small potatoes compared to most serious YouTubers but heck, I'll take it.

I am a relative newbie here having been a member of WA for just six months. I had no idea how this Affiliate Marketing stuff worked before, I am at a point where I am getting ready to really study websites of successful Affiliate Marketers like yourself to get ideas that I can use as I progress further with my website. Obviously I do not intend to copy the styles of others. I am already developing my own. I do want to learn the tricks of the trade and I notice many of these sites have some things in common.

Jerry, I look up to you as someone who is enterprising and a good problem solver. In time, I expect to reach a whole lot of people through my website. And definitely through future courses that I will be creating.

It's all good fun. I wish you even more success in all that you are doing.

Cheers.

Exactly right! If something is wrong with my site, I submit a ticket to site support. If I'm trying to find something, I use the WA search. If its not there, Google is my best friend for everything else not related to Affiliate Marketing.

I wouldn't dream of messaging people to solve simple issues that can easily be found elsewhere. In fact, I have never messaged another member who could possibly be busy to ask anything except for once and that was opinions on something to two WA members who I follow.

I sympathize with you. Google is my friend :)

Good Morning Jerry,

Of course, you are right, ask Google and most probably you will find the answer to your question.

I must though say that lately, I am not fond of Googles dictator-like behavior as they are stepping on nearly all that alternative medicine related websites/information
When I ask for something I want to be shown all the possibilities not only those they choose to show me.

Actually, it not Google's doing. Governments are wanting Google and Facebook and Amazon and Twitter to stop sharing hate groups and misinformation sites like antivaxxers that spread dangerous and misleading information or spread fake news, etc. So they ALL changed their their algorithms.

Good Morning Rochelle,

Thank you for your comment.
I will not have any government decide what I do with or for my health.

Exactly...The government doesn't actually want a real truth about health...That's why Fakebook(..exactly Fake..) and Google are censoring the truth about vaccines...So finding the real truth will be harder if you rely only on Google...
Reply
Selenityjade Premium
As far as I read, they're not suppressing healthcare. They're suppressing terrorists, hate groups like the antitransgender people who were bullying and posting hateful stuff, fake news stories so people don't get fooled, and dangerous misinformation that might get people killed like tide pod challenges and suicide groups and antivax propaganda, etc.

Plus our governments are given permission to 'protect' us by being elected or in power. You'd have to lobby against search engine censorship with the government's or voting in someone else who wants less search engine measures. We kind of give permission by voting for them.

I don't mean just the US government. Twitter had huge pressure on them for allowing anti-gay people to harass gay people and allowed hate ads as did Facebook. Amazon got harassed by governments for the fact that antivax books were on their site for sale. It's not the US only. They're trying to stop fake news and terrorist and hate propaganda. So unless they're telling people to ignore medical treatment for cancer and take sugar pills or going to faith healers, or sharing there is no such thing as cancer or telling people not to vaccinate their kids or reporting fake news, alternative health care sites shouldn't be affected at all. I can still find valuable acupuncture information and aromatherapy and all sorts of other stuff on Google just fine.

Sure, I think the FDA is getting too much into healthcare and punishing pain patients for people overdosing on freaking heroine and all that, but those anti-FDA and pro-Chronic Pain people are still on Google. But I happen to agree with the fake news all over Facebook and the hate-groups on Twitter and the absolutely bogus science and fraud on Amazon were getting outrageous. Now I very rarely see fake news or ads for hate-groups. It's kind of refreshing personally.

That said, I wasn't fooled by fake news or fake 'experts' or hate groups because I am a logical person. It was just annoying.

Good evening Rochelle,

Thank God we live in a free country, well, free kind of and can still say what we think. I hope the moment will not come when we cannot do that anymore. You will not mind that I do not agree with you? One thing I do agree with is that the FDA is doing a lousy job.

Hi Jerry,

Great article I enjoyed reading this very much so.

The more independently resourceful I become the more I learn how to solve my own problems. In many different situations, I can have the problem partially solved before it has the chance to start impacting my businesses.

The quicker we react the less impact a hurdle can have.

On a side note, I wish more members here instead of just answering questions in chat offer the guidance to the new members as to where they found the answer they gave them.

90% of the time it was from the WA search box (an underappreciated and unused valuable tool offered here at WA). The search box can offer many answers: that you can research your question and solve it on your own.

This can help you grow and learn at the same time better than if someone just gives you the answer every time you ask a question, how do you learn from that?

To grow a business YOU must grow as it does or you will essentially hold it back eventually!!

Some food for thought,

Calvin

Absolutely agree Jerry. As you say, we are also happy to answer questions anytime but when some of the questions here, on Quora and other platforms are so basic it does get a bit annoying!!
Just a little bit of thinking outside the box and doing a bit of due diligence usually brings the answer.
