900 Referrals in a WEEK! Damn, this is sick!

Last Update: December 20, 2018

A really huge milestone & breakthrough once again...

I got 900 WA Free Starter Referrals in a WEEK!!

I was really shocked as well.

I was contacted by an YouTuber (Yale Chen) on Instagram whom I have been following for a while.

His channel is mainly about personal growth, building passive income and stocks/investing.

Since I'm also somewhat active on Instagram sharing my Affiliate Marketing progress, we had exchanged messages a few times in the past.

This time round his subscriber requested to learn more about Affiliate Marketing. So he contacted me to see if I'm open to do an interview with him and share about my affiliate marketing experience.

I'm a shy person and I'm still working on overcoming my "camera shyness". But I knew this was a great opprtunity, especially he had 22K subscribers before the interview. (Right now at the point of this writing, he has 31K, grew almost 10K over a week.)

Anyway, I was freaking nervous as this was my first time doing an interview like this. So I spent hours before the interview scripting out all the answers to the questions he sent me beforehand.

I even rehearsed it a couple of time, LOL.

Fast forward 2 days later when he uploaded my interview to his channel, it just went viral. And as you can see from the screenshot, that's how I got almost 900 referrals in a WEEK!

The video now has 21.5K views at the point of this writing.

Not only that, since this interview was in Chinese, I also built another Email list of over 300 people at this point who is interested for me to create a Chinese Affiliate Marketing Course for them.

The Moral of The Story...

#1 Build connections with people within your niche

This interview was all possible because I have built a connection with this YouTuber for months and years.

By building connection, I'm not saying you need to go out there and keep sending or spamming people with messages trying to make friends or do collaboration.

Just find those authorities in your field that you admire. You'll naturally be interested in their content/sharing. You can be an active subscriber of that person and constantly leaving comments to add value to their contents.

What happened to me was that we had exchanged a few messages before and that's all. But this YouTuber is also following my IG. So he knew exactly what I am doing (Affiliate Marketing) and how well I'm doing because I constantly share my progress/results on my social media.

When he was asked to share about affiliate marketing, I was the person that came to his mind and that's why he contaced me.

Building connenctions is not a 1 day, 1 week or 1 month's job. It's an ongoing process and you wouldn't know what will happen next.

The most important thing is focus on adding value and just making friends first. When the time is right, the opportunity will come!

#2 Feel the Fear & Do it anyway!

We will automatically be fearful for things that are outside of our comfort zone.

For me, this interview was one of them because it was my first time doing an interview. So, it's normal.

But the most important thing is to grab the opportunity when it comes to you and don't let it slip away.

Remember I was really nervous and spent a few hours scripting out everything in advance first. If not, I think I wouldn't be organized in my sharing and my mind would just go blank when I was freaking nervous.

But I knew I need to do this. If I didn't do this because of my fear, I wouldn't be able to have 900 referrals in a week and started building a small group of raving fans.

I have always been thinking about creating my own Affiliate Marketing Course. This interview has given me all the motivation I need because now there are over 300 people waiting for my course.

That sense of responsibility pushes me forward.

So, I can't emphasize this enough...

Feel the Fear and do it anyway!!

We are all fearful for a lot of things especially when it's our first time. That fear of uncertainty and unknown is absolutely normal.

But if your gut feeling tells you to do certain things, just do it!

You will never grow if you're not willing to step outside of your comfort zone. Many of us have heard this saying before but are you actually practicing it?

Anyway, here's the link to the interview if you're interested:

https://bit.ly/2LwFq80

It's in Chinese by the way.

If you understand Chinese and you wish to be on my list regarding my course, let me know in the comments below!

Hello Jerry,
I want to say congratulations!!! on your success, can your determination to be a successful Online marketer, I am so happy for you, keep up the good work.

I have a question???
I wanted to know step by step instructions on how to refer people to WA so I can get commissions I know I suppose to get my link where do I put the link on email or text ? They also want to review the WA before signing up with their email, I wanted them after they review WA website, things that WA is offering to sign up when they login into with my link, not on WA website, but if they do, will I still get commission? Thanks:)

That's incredible Jerry. Not sure "this is sick" describes it, but maybe what you meant got lost in translation or something.

I assume that all these Referrals are members whose native language is Chinese. Do you think many of them will also speak English making it easier for them to communicate here on the WA platform?

Is it true that English has become a compulsory class in most Chinese speaking school systems? Are you expecting a lower conversion rate to Premium for this group of Referrals?

Hello Dennis, if I am not mistaken, “this is sick,” translates in cool, great, awesome, any of the above.

Oops ... you're absolutely correct Harvey which I confirmed over on Google. It's one of many slang words that mean the opposite of it's original meaning. My bad.

Wow Gerry, you never cease to amaze me with your wisdom and insight for your young age. I have not been able to attract one person to WA not because I have not tried but possibly because I lack your wealth of IT knowledge and youthful boldness.
Well done. You are really rocking it.

Amazing! I am tidying up my site at the moment as I had lost my way and looking back I was not happy with a lot of my content so am in the process of altering posts building on posts.
That means though that following the training has come to a bit of a halt until I smarten up what I already have on my site. Am still not at the stage where I feel I have "got it"but I enjoy reading your posts and am hoping through following the training a "light will come on" in the near future and it will all pay off.
When you say you are setting up your own affiliate course how is that different from WA?
Thanks Ann

Hi and Congratulations Jerry,

You're truly an inspiration to a new guy here. I just started on the 10th and went Premium immediately and was fortunate enough to have one of my seven same-day Free Starter Referrals go Premium the same day too!

Then, I see you and what you accomplished and I now have a new goal to achieve.

Thank you for sharing,

Well said, Jerry
It's nice to know that someone who is making money online still has/had fears about something that was new for him.

Fears are real, but we use them to rationalize our reasons for not taking action and doing nothing. I'm still overcoming some of my fears, and I'm trying to use my life experiences where I needed to learn something new, but didn't fear doing it.

Haha of course we all have fears. That's our brain protecting ourselves from getting hurt. It's all about whether you're willing to take that step and step outside of your comfort zone to face your fears. That's how we can really grow and improve :)

Congratulations Jerry, how exciting!!!
I really enjoyed this post, very inspiring.
It's exactly what I would say to myself every time my kids and I would try something new, like zip lining in Mexico ( I happen to be afraid of heights lol). Having to go last, because hey I'm mom, and not show any fear while watching them, herculean effort, let me tell you. Then forcing myself to step off that little platform and not scream my fool head off. Well, I figure if I pulled that off, I can pull off anything. That one little step off of that platform has made such a huge difference in my life. I intend to continue taking this very wise advise Jerry and I hope that many others do as well.
Cheers,

Life is like the dodgem cars we must skillfully divert. In the end the cars stop and we get out stretching our legs only to greet the warm sun and move on. Oh, there we see another ride in the distance and it is called "The Wealthy Affiliate." We ride with joy knowing all are friends are aboard this one !! The ride does end and we walk along happy we tried it. For tomorrow is another day and we ride again, and again, and again. We are better somehow than if we had not rode at all. Now this is a great post and you have highlighted something important here as well, which I think is more important than the 900 referrals, though they are excellent and well done it is this bit

"sharing my Affiliate Marketing progress, we had exchanged messages a few times in the past.

This time round his subscriber requested to learn more about Affiliate Marketing. So he contacted me to see if I'm open to do an interview with him and share about my affiliate marketing experience"

By documenting your experience and journey, you are being transparent and open, which is rare on the internet and if we all did this on our blogs, sharingf the warts and all bit, then the referrals will come

YouTube is a brilliant place to be for engagement

Well done Jerry

I keep saying to myself that it's just a matter of being persistent and keep pushing like you did when you were bringing your laptop at work and working away on your online business between washing dishes.

I feel the same way right now between my 9-5 job and this online journey. I will get there, maybe not as successful as you are, but I will succeed in my own way!

Hi Jerry!

This is so awesome!! Wow! Congratulations!!! This is a huge step for you. You know what this means right? 3,000 sales will be a piece of cake here on out!

You have to keep this momentum up and create that course for them (this is something I’m definitely in the process of adding to my site too). In the meanwhile, drop them some content to keep them interested. There’s nothing better than a fan base!!

Keep your YouTube videos going too, this is your chance to show them even more about WA. It’s going to be such easy sell!

I just can’t even express how happy I am for you!! This means sooooo many opportunities ahead and your goal of being a millionaire is in the bag!

I wish you nothing but smooth sailing all the way up and I hope you will continue to share your wisdom here with us at WA.

I’m so lucky to be able to meet you in Jan.

Keep up your amazing work! :)

I am 77 years of age and not very good with a computer.
A few years ago I was trying to get help from a so-called entrepreneur who got sick of my ability with a computer.
He told me to go find a teenager to teach me how to use a computer.
I live in the Australian bush and the Kangaroos have more ability as there are no Teenagers worthwhile around here.
We all have fear to fight through.
When mankind walked on the moon the first time, it was one small step for mankind.
Fear comes along as a big step for everyone. Follow the leader.
Just one small step at a time with care will overcome all fear.
Your work on WA is great and started with one small step at a time. Time heals all and is soon forgotten.
I am looking forward to your videos with one small step at a time.
I did not stop learning how to use a computer but I am still just learning one small step at a time.
As everyone passes me I give them a smile and a wave which is the Australian country way.
Tom.

What a nice comment Tom! I am curious though, what is wrong with your teenagers?
Reply
Tirolith Premium
In the bush town of Tenterfield there are not many teenagers and any good ones leave for better opportunities in the cities.
We have more elderly people in the town than young ones. I call it a retirement village. Twice as many old people die than are being born.
Any young ones here are feral. The police caught some very young ones and asked them what they were up to. Their answer was, We are trying to steal things. Too young to know what they should not say to police.
Australia is bigger than the US of A. We only have just reached 25 million population. We have fewer people to the acre than any other country in the World but every young person wants to live in the big cities in high rises and congestion.
You have a big future so be careful as everything is good for you ........But in Moderation.........
Tom.

Australia is like Alaska in that way. We don't even have 1 million yet and our landmass is 1/3 of the entire United States. Very few young people are in the rural areas here either. I would go back if I could. I miss it. I just looked it up. We have a lower population density than Australia!
Reply

You have 3.1 people per square kilometer which is 7 per square mile. We have 1.2 per square mile. So, I know exactly what you mean.

Our town of Tenterfield has a population of about 3500.
I have a book about it from 1988 when Australia turned 200 years of age.
The population at the time was the same.
The shire is a 100 Ks north, 70 to the east 90 to the west and 50 to the south. 8000 odd all up.
We are up on the range about 880 meters above sea level. It is part of the granite country.
This town is treated by the State government like a chook yard and only given the scraps.
Sydney is 750 Ks from the town. We see their news and anytime there is a crime there, they interview the neighbours and they hardly speak English.

Swangirl Premium
Our largest city (where we work and live nearby now) has one of the highest rates of violent crime like robbery, burglary and murder) per capita in the entire United States. Sadly, this is largely due to gangs. We have Samoan gangs (not to sound racist at all but they have very dangerous gangs here), Filipino gangs, black gangs, Mexican gangs, even Russian mob type groups. You would not expect all this here but we have the drug gangs, the Crips and Bloods (from Las Angeles, California) etc.

They steal cars, kill each other (and innocent people who are hit by stray bullets in their cars and homes) and any other horrible acts you can imagine. That is the biggest reason I miss living in the woods! We didn't even have to lock our door there. Here you have to worry about your car getting stolen out of your driveway, your mail getting stolen, your home getting broken into and being mugged on the street. I have narrowly missed being at several bank robberies etc.
Reply
Tirolith Premium
That is happening in Sydney. Bikey gangs etc.
I am surprised you have Pacific Islanders in such a cold country.
Filipino women pester Australian men to get them out to Australia.
Many elderly men around 6 foot 2 inches are using their women as partners and they are usually about 5 foot 2 inches.
One reason I do not like Facebook as they pester me there. My wife thinks it is funny.
Many people from India are taking over taxi runs and petrol stations.
One suburb of Brisbane has become part of Hong Kong after it was taken over by China.
I go there and all the shops are in Chinese and I have to look for the English in smaller writing.

Wow. You have some interesting stories. You would be shocked at the diversity here. We (the city) have the most ethnically diverse neighborhood and school district in the entire United States! Isn't that crazy? You would think that would be in New York, not Anchorage Alaska. Over 200 languages are spoken here.

We have large Korean, Thai, Filipino, Mexican, Vietnamese and yes even some Samoan populations...we even have people from Africa (straight from Africa, not African Americans).

We have hardly any Indians though! That is where we differ from many other cities...I guess we are too cold for those from India.

We don't have a Chinatown or anything like that though. We don't have to look for English yet!

Alaska has always had ties with the Pacific. The ancient Hawaiians appear to have crossed the ocean and traded with the indigenous Haida people here. That was not widespread but still amazing since it is thousands of miles of open ocean. Alaskans often vacation in Hawaii or other Pacific destinations since it is so much more direct (and shorter) to fly to those places (especially Hawaii which is just one direct flight of about 5 hours) than to other warm locations like the Caribbean where you would have to travel for nearly a day to get there after crossing the entire U.S.

I am not sure how the Samoans end up here though...Hawaii is close but Samoa, not so much.

My first international trip was to Kiribati in the middle of the Pacific near the equator. The Hawaiian cruise lines had to make an international stop and that is the closest one.

The clubhouse is in the background. The statue is part of sculptures competition along the beach front.
In the late 1950s, I helped pull the old clubhouse down as it was made of wood and nails which did not like salt water, rusted and rotted.
Bricks and prestressed concrete only. We added rollers doors but the next cyclone smashed the doors in.
