How to Get Started as an Amazon Affiliate
Hello WA Family,
How to get started as an Amazon affiliate was requested by a member, so I decided to write a post to help them get started.
Amazon Affiliate Start-Up Guide
Becoming an Amazon Affiliate is a great way to earn commissions by promoting products you love.
Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started
Step 1: Build Your Platform
Amazon requires you to have a platform to drive traffic to their store. This can be a website, blog, YouTube channel, social media account (with a minimum of 500 followers), or even a mobile app. Focus on creating high-quality content that resonates with your target audience.
Step 2: Sign Up for Amazon Associates
Head over to the Amazon Associates homepage and click on "Sign Up". You'll be guided through a registration process where you'll enter your account information, website address, and preferred payment method. Be sure to carefully review the program policies to ensure you understand the terms and conditions.
Step 3: Get Familiar with Amazon Associates Central
Once your account is approved, you'll have access to Amazon Associates Central. This is your hub for creating affiliate links, tracking performance, and managing your account. Spend some time exploring the different features and tools available.
Step 4: Find Products to Promote
There are millions of products on Amazon. The key is to choose products that are relevant to your niche and audience. Look for products you genuinely like and can recommend with confidence. There are various tools within Amazon Associates Central to help you find suitable products.
Step 5: Create Affiliate Links
Once you've chosen your products, it's time to create affiliate links. These links will track any clicks or purchases made through your recommendations. Amazon Associates Central offers various link-building options, including standard product links and banner ads.
Step 6: Promote Your Affiliate Links
Now comes the fun part: promoting your links! Here's where your platform comes into play. You can integrate your affiliate links into your website content, social media posts, YouTube video descriptions, or even email newsletters.
Step 7: Track Your Performance
Amazon Associates Central provides comprehensive reporting tools that allow you to track your clicks, conversions, and earnings. Regularly analyze your performance to see what's working and what's not. This will help you refine your strategies and maximize your earning potential.
Consider using a third-party link management tool. These tools can help you shorten and cloak your affiliate links, making them more visually appealing and easier to share. Pretty Links is a plugin many affiliate marketers use.
Additional Resources
There are many helpful resources available online to guide you further on your Amazon Affiliate journey.
Here are a couple to get you started
- Amazon Affiliate Program: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/signup
- Amazon Affiliate Marketing for Beginners: [YouTube Amazon affiliate marketing for beginners]
Remember, success as an Amazon Affiliate takes time and effort. Focus on creating valuable content, building trust with your audience, and promoting high-quality products. By consistently delivering value, you can establish yourself as a trusted resource and watch your affiliate earnings grow.
Final Thoughts
As an Amazon affiliate, you are required to make 3 or 4 sales within a specific time period. I could not find the exact sales and time period, so I suggest you check on this as a new affiliate.
For anyone considering this program, I recommend you wait to join until you are receiving traffic to your website for the most success.
I hope you found this helpful,
Jeff

Good article , yes I made mistake of signing to soon. The 180 days went by and Amazon closed my account. However after learning more and working more on my website I reapplied and was approved and made the required sells.
So yes it doesn’t pay to jump ahead at least for me it didn’t ! Enjoyed the read!
Thank you for sharing your experience with Amazon
I always tell everyone to wait until they have traffic before joining to save them time
Jeff
I think one of the biggest is that people sign up to Amazon too soon. My advice would be to wait until you have built up your websites traffic and then join. I know I signed up too quick the first time and I didn’t make the compulsory
sales.
Also if you have any friends or family who use Amazon, get them to purchase through you😀
Happy sales hunting.
Hi - actually, it's against Amazon's terms and conditions to allow friends or family to use your links.
They do usually find out, don't ask me how!
So, you were lucky if you did this and got away with it, lol.
If you go in too early with not enough traffic on your website you will probably not make the 3 sales over 180 days trial period. 3 sales over 180 days doesn’t sound a lot, but if you don’t have enough traffic, you won’t make the sales and Amazon will close your Affiliate account. It is not a big deal as you can apply again ( and will invariably be given another account)
But it is annoying as you will have to fix links etc.
My advice, build up your traffic for 6 months first. And write as much as you can. Try for 200 blogs.
Happy writing
Steve
I agree with you, Steve
I made the same mistake with a new website myself, so anyone who does not succeed the first time can try again later on
Jeff
180 days. I joined prior to knowing anything and mine ends this month cause I didn't make any sales. 😩
Hi - you can apply again, and will be accepted immediately, but you will be given a new ID.
So, you will need to swap all your links, the previous ones won't earn you commission.
That’s cool. Thanks for the info Diane. In my initial search on working online I started without any knowledge at all. I didn’t even have a legit website. Lol
Hello Steve
Now don't be too hard on yourself, you joined before you had enough traffic to make the sales, you can reapply and try again later on if you desire to.
There are many other programs to join
Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I did the best with the limited info I had at the time. Working on a new game plan as we chat.

Hi! Do we need to have a specific number of followers/traffic to apply to the program?
Nope, anyone can apply. They give you 180 days to make 3 sales to keep it active.
