The Number 1 Mistake New Members Make

Today will be short and sweet...

I have noticed a bit of a trend among new members (and perhaps even a few "old" ones, too.) People are so excited to create a site and build a business that they are jumping way ahead of themselves...

"This is NOT Get-Rich-Quick!"

Since my time here at WA I have participated in several site reviews. Many of them are asking for advice because they are not getting any traffic; or if they are getting traffic it is not converting. Almost immediately I can identify their problem...

When I go to their site, what I usually see is a handful of sales letters disguised as articles, and/or a boatload of banner ads. The entire site is practically smashing me over the head with a hammer while screaming, "GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!"

Congratulations... you have just become the Internet version of a slimy used car salesman. You must be proud. While this might have worked 20 years ago when websites were a new concept, it will absolutely fail today.

Look, no one is coming to your site to "buy" anything, and even if they were, they certainly will not buy from someone they don't trust. And you will never build trust with a bunch of banner ads and sales pitches. People are looking for honest reviews and helpful information, plain and simple. Only after they learn to like you and trust you will they buy from you.

"Stop Ignoring the Training"

It is unfortunate that this reminder has to be pointed out. It shows me that some people are simply not following the proven training we have access to here at WA. Either that or they are completely ignoring it, which is probably worse.

It is right there in the very beginning of Course Two, so there is absolutely no excuse for anyone who has become a Premium member to make this deadly mistake.

Grandmaster Kyle himself stated it best...

"This is why we always make the “traffic” component the first goal. People tend to be so eager to promote stuff that they end up creating a site full of promotional content (which won’t rank and won’t convert).

Our focus is going to be on the user experience and making people want to come to our website. If we can do this, traffic is going to be quite easy to capture, Google is going to love your website, and THEN you will be able to earn revenue through your traffic."

You see, right there he tells us that a site like the ones I described earlier won't rank and won't convert. Google doesn't like them because your visitors don't like them.

So, knock it off. Quit trying to sell things. It's not forever. You will eventually be able to make a wonderful living off of your online efforts. But first you have get people to come and, more importantly, you have to get them to stay. And no one is sticking around for a banner no matter how "cool" it looks.

Just my .02 cents. Please post your thoughts and comments below and let me know if you have come across a punch-in-the-face site yourself.

If we want to be successful then we have to accept some 'tough love' at times. This is good advice that we need to hear.

wisdom.

I heard a successful internet guru mulling over the potential of the internet. He said - Wouldn't it be too bad if we took this wonderful tool and did nothing more than created a better way to sell toothbrushes?
Of course we don't all have to be Gandhi or Mother Teresa, but helping people to find what they want instead of what we want to sell them wouldn't be so bad would it?
Anyway, Happy Holidays!

Tough but probably MOST appropriate. DAN

Thanks James and Merry Christmas. It's a reminder we all need. I found parts a bit harsh but, HONESTLY, this training IS here for a reason and we HAVE joined WA for a reason, WE ALL WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL!!!!

Even IF someone THINKS they are doing alright and THINK it's safe to skip a lesson or two, I say SMACK YOURSELF!!! Kyle and Carson have put a lot of work into this for OUR benefit, so why would anyone spend so much and not try to get everything out of it that they can.

And just because one has finished one lesson and moved on don't think that you don't or should not have to go back, at some time, and do them again, just for review, to make sure that you haven't missed something.

Anyway, that's my $.02 cents worth. To all out there in WA, MERRRRRRY Christmas.

Thanks, Wayne. Merry Christmas to you, too. Honestly, I almost went back and rewrote it because I felt parts were harsh myself. But the more I thought about it the more I felt like some "tough love" was necessary because it keeps happening over and over. This business, while not easy, is very simple... quality content, build a following, and then make money off referrals. It really doesn't have to be any more difficult than that. People just need to learn to be patient :-)

Good point James. Everyone wants to hit the ground running, but the best place to do that is in the training. It is better to offer something to your audience so they will want to return and you can earn their trust.

I entirely agree with Pauls assessment and you are so right. I also noticed that Pauls spelling has dramatically improved (Grammarly? I love it). I also am somewhat guilty of not following the training, as I should, That is precipitated by my vision problems and not being able to concentrate on one thing at a time. But I am trying.
My site is not monetized at all yet and I am in the process of editing it thoroughly.
If anyone would like to give me an opinion then please ask me for my site through the Private Messaging. I don't want to be guilty of "spamming" here!

Hello
Why don't you use the WA Comment Function.
That way you comment on other peoples sites and in return you get comments back.
If you leave your site within that section there is a pretty good chance you will continue to get comments from fellow WA members who use this functions as well.
Have a great day.
Robert

Nice James to read your words but this is true some sites are screaming buy buy buy and I won't even look further - training
Is the key and to offer good content then sales will come

No punches held back on this one James, but you're right, building visitor respect, using your niche to help solve problems or offer valuable advice are the first important steps to building a long term online business.

Some good points here, James. Thank you.
