Hi people,

I set up my page using OMG Blog by Bizberg themes.
I think it looks awesome but now I'm running into issues.
I sent them to support, but they say becaus

Hi Ilya, sorry to hear you're having so many problems. It sounds like Phil is helping you out. I'll just add my two cents, lol.

I just spent 2 months rebuilding a site almost from scratch. Hundreds of posts were built with Thrive Architect and it was running on Thrive Themebuilder (Shapeshift). And every post had to be rebuilt in the WP editor which led to quite a few other problems.

But I had been having issues since I rebuilt it last year (also because it was having issues on a previous theme). Every time I'd fix it, it just felt like was putting a patch on it. It would work for a while and then another problem would arise.

The only way I could confidently fix it was to ditch the theme I was on and go to one that has been proven to be lightweight and fast. From there I could start diagnosing problems with the confidence that it wasn't a theme issue.

I had a look at your site and it looks great, and I can see how much work you've put into it. I don't want to tell you to change themes and believe me, I know how much work it is. The problem with so many of these themes though is that there are not have enough examples of people getting great speed scores using them.

That doesn't mean you can't make the theme fast, it just means it's not as widely used and therefore it's hard to get help from any of the blogging and SEO communities. Also, when you do a Google search for example, there are very few results.

There may be someone out there that understands your theme very well and has tweaked it to be really fast, but finding that person is difficult.

That makes it hard to diagnose problems because you don't know if it's your theme.

I attached a screenshot of pagespeed insights for your site, and the errors listed are all theme-related for the most part.

Your starting point (your theme) may be the primary issue and spending a lot of time trying to fix issues might not get you the result you're looking for, which is why so many people recommending Generatepress and Astra. The easiest optimization is just to eliminate the theme issue from the beginning, and then you can start picking away at the other problems.

I did notice you're getting an issue with Google Fonts. To fix that you can try the plugin Optimize My Google Fonts (search for OMGF in the WP plugin directory). I set it to automatic.

Anyway, I know that's not what you want to hear. No one wants to go through a theme change. But it is the one optimization that can solve a majority of your issues at once.

Since your site is not that old. I would agree and switch to a different theme. Astra, twenty-sixteen, or even Generate Press are all available to try.

There are many others that are free and lightweight. You can try out several on the same day or 2 before deciding on a final choice.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the staging theme and then try out some of these.

Have a blessed day.
Ilya

I had a Divi theme, loved the design, sliders, image design, buttons, but I couldn't launch it. I was concerned about the site structure as I did not have any tech skills. That when I found WA. I have learned that it is not about designs, but content and helping the user.

So, even though I had paid for the premium theme, I changed to GeneratePress and it is working well. I'm getting used to a clean theme.

My suggestion would be to change your them. Someone suggested asking tech to give you a staging site and that way you can test things out.

I'm new and don't know a lot of technical stuff, so I'm just telling you my experience. But, if you can't get support with the theme you are working with, then you may never get those issues resolved.

Hope you get it all straightened out.

Best wishes.
Connie

Hi Connie,

Thanks for reaching out.
I didn't pay for the theme (I'm glad to say). But I just loved what I did. But maybe it's time to kill a darling. I'll try the staging thing to get it sorted out. I pray it will.

Have a blessed day.
Ilya

the important point for your site is ot create content...even with a slow site you still need content on there...
so start creating content again....
the site we can work on...
but no one can create content for you....
you know what you want your site to look like, but you need content or people are going to visit an empty shop...

the theme seems fairly reasonable ...still being supported so that should be ok...
it may be worth looking at any images you have added for file size ( one of the major speed problems)
and then the number of plugins....
but you must start creating content Ilya....

phil
under websites>>sitemanager>>details >>sitespeed is it set to extreme..
and don't forget each page will have its own speed...
try it two or three time as anything added to your browser can slow it down as well...

I've worked on images for 4 days in a row, but it doesn't seem to help. I changed the size, which actually made them look blurry and also used minify => no result.

9 plugins

Yes, site speed was already set to extreme. But in my case it's extremely low I guess.

Ok, and I thought, sh...y slow page, visitors will never visit again....

it sounds like you may have taken the images a little too far...
what does pagespeed insights say is slowing down your site....

minification is ok but has its limits...the next step is to delay your css and js files and add inline css to speed up your site...
the minified files may still be render blocking....

and yes it may still turn out to be your theme....

one way to tell is to get sitesupport to create a staging site ( a duplicate ) and then change hte theme and see what effect that has.. and not affect your main site...
you can also work on the plugins to see what effect they have and whether any others can be used....

Hi feigner,

Thanks for reaching out.
Page Speed shows a lot of things.
I'll attach the PrintScreen for both mobile and desktop.
Besides images, it's CSS and js and a bunch of other stuff.
I'm not advanced enough to know how to fix CSS and JS. The other stuff I don't even understand when I read it.

Also because I've worked on images I don't understand for example why it says that image width and hight are not set... Because they are.

Google search console have even more warnings (that I don't understand, because of my starter-level).

I've tried to work on the plugins but that only seems to make things worse actually. As they all store data that does not seem to get erased once I delete the plugin.

Never heard about a staging site. That is a great idea, thanks.
I will ask that and then first try to write a new post ;)

Thank you for thinking with me.
Have a blessed day,
ilya

you have some serious overload on your main thread....
16.7 seconds ot load the largest block above the fold is 'push the back button ' territory as you say....
if you do go for a staging site i can have a look at it to see what we can do, if you want ...pm me....

That would be so wonderful THANK YOU enormously! The largest block above the fold, is that on the main page? And would that be the slider?
Or is it the image on the top of a post? (the inner hero)?

it is probably the slider...groans.....i like the idea of sliders but they are so code heavy....

I also pm'ed you with the staging site.

tried different things, with interesting results.
Best to message private?

FYI, Mobile speed is 10 and desktop is 52. And I just don't understand how to fix all these things :(
