No smooth sailing yet, but getting there
For the past months, a lot has happened in my life and for a couple of weeks, I wasn't really doing much on my bilingual site. My niche is maybe somewhat weird to some.I focus on the environment from an Islamic perspective.
Thank God I refound myself and published a new post and translated it. And of course, just as I thought I was sailing smoothly... rough sea interrupted the journey ahead.
First, I had the issue of getting my post-preview translated for social media. AIOSEO did not agree with the Falang translation plugin I use. Yes, some on WA advised to go for Weglot, but when I looked at pricing I thought it was too expensive to start with. The Falang crew suggested to use either Yoast or Rank Math.
I tried both and was I in for a surprise surge of extra work!
- To get all my posts SEO proof again, as Rank Math and
AIOSEO did not seem to be on the same wavelength. - Installing plugins suggested by Rank Math and then totally messing up my site. Up untill the point that I could neither login nor view it live. What did I get myself into?
- After 24 hours of shouting MAYDAY-MAYDAY to site support on different issues which they helped solve and prevented me from totally capsizing.
- Now, slowly but surely trying to get all back on track. The waves seem to calm down a bit, but I don't feel I can relax yet. SEO seems great on the WP dashboard, site health on the WA dashboard looks horrible. Especially page speed.
- So, here I am with yet another plugin, trying to enhance the images that seem the biggest problem. I'm trying Imagify to do this. Praying for the best and a bit anxious about the other issues that Page Speed Insights shows.
Slowly but surely I'll probably get there. But when I set out for this journey I reckoned it would be mostly about writing content. In the meantime, it's mostly all kinds of tech stuff that I've not encountered before. Truly, I love learning new stuff but by now I'm pretty exhausted and am not feeling very productive.
Do other members recognize this struggle with plugins and stuff? I'm curious to hear. Looking forward to your reactions and to a bit of smooth sailing in the next week so I can get a next post out.

Hello Ilya, I'm glad you're doing fine on here now. I too was struggling at first. It always takes time to get the hang of things. I was also raised in a Muslim family. In case you're wondering I'm half German and half Malaysian.

Sometimes things get confusing here. When you've just spent a full day on SEO and then you read a fellow WA-member stating he's doing great without it...

oh, I forgot to add that at the moment I have 0 traffic, so I do need to develop more skills and knowledge to generate some...

We all struggle with plugins at times… especially for SEO… until it becomes second nature.

I have 12 plugins in use on my website and I get a page speed of 96 I use WP rocket with Imagify and that works fine the website loads very fast the most important thing is that it is not so much the amount of plugins but more are they all up to date use you can't have two plugins for the same purpose eg Rankmath & All in one SEO.
I always advise customers when they work with plugins and they notice that something is not going well to disable plugins for a while and then enable them again 1 by 1, then the problem will arise automatically if it is caused by a plugin

Yes did all that and I'm getting from bad to worse. Or in Dutch 'van de regen in de drup'.
The last three days I'm just trying to make sense of the SEO failures but I just don't understand them.
So I'm having contact with 4 different helpdesks at a time, but it all just doesn't make sense.
In the meantime there is 0 traffic and only red flags and warnings.
So I think I'm just really messing up.
Maybe support should just delete everything and try and start new. I've been at it 12 hours per day just trying to fix it but it's just not getting better, only worse and there's no content in the meantime. I feel like crying actually...

On other question, what is your site? Maybe I can learn from that. Also red flags about bad speed, I don't understand the fixes being offered...
