Long Tail Keywords And Women

Just how important are those longer search phrases? And what do they have to do with women? Take a quick look at a few facts:

--Over one third of the total internet population buys goods online. Of these, 61% are women.

--Women account for 85% of *all* purchasing. They influenced $90 billion of consumer electronics in 2007, and the number has been steadily rising since then.

--Men, when researching or searching, generally use short tail keywords. Women generally use long tail keywords.

--44% of all online shopping begins by the use of a search engine.

In view of the above information, concentration on a few long tail keywords might go a long way in successfully guiding traffic to your website. Google reported nearly 6 billion searches a day last year. That means that about 250 million online purchases began with a search on a search engine. And most of the purchases made were by women, who generally use long tail keywords.

So take a second look at that QSR the next time you see a longer search phrase. It just may be one more stepping-stone to a more successful website!

Interesting stats, I didn't know women buy more online than men.
Thanks for sharing.

I guess it makes sense, since women buy more often than men period. So it would follow that online shopping would continue the pattern. But up until I did the research I had no idea either.

Oh my goodness, this helps me immensely! My niche is weddings, and since the brides are more likely to search for wedding topics, help, and products they are my target audience. This is good info to know. Thanks!

That's awesome, Amanda! I hope it helps significantly. I think I've told you before, but just in case I haven't, I think that's a great niche.

Thank you!!

I did some keyword research the other day and notice that a slightly longer keyword phrase got a better QSR score than the shorter keyword phrase. Good Stuff!

That is interesting! It makes sense in light of the information. Thanks for the info!

What great information to share! Once again, concentrating on who your customer is takes front and center! Incredible how much there is to learn!

I agree, Terea. You never stop learning at WA, that's for sure.

Very interesting..... one more reason to go for longer keywords :-) Thanks

It's certainly something to keep in mind when making posts! :)

WOW...what great information. I mean typically, women are "the shoppers" whether it's at the mall, local store or grocery store. I see we have men beat online in the shopping are also...lol.

We are very particular when it's comes to purchasing so it would make sense to be as precise about out SE as possible ;)

Thanks, great info. I will take this into consideration when doing my next site.

Those are some crazy numbers, aren't they? But you're right--it does make sense because women do want specific things when they shop, online or otherwise.

I realized that I use long tail keywords when I shop online. I just had never noticed it in myself before doing the research.

Awesome stats to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks Matt. Knowledge is power, as they say.

Thanks for the info.

You are most welcome, Pam. :)

Definitely food for thought! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Beverly!

Good advice.

It's amazing what one learns when one crunches a few numbers.

I know for a fact I place all online purchases in our household. Cheers.
