My LoveHate Relationship With Code!
Im not a coder... I really don't understand the significance of all the > & ; etc... I respect it though! and everyone who can code...
I can follow instructions about adding tracking codes... most of the time.... but there are occasions when I have done exactly what Kyle has said or Google analytics has shown me and it still will not work.. Some of this I think is that I don't understand the process and simply have no choice but to follow the instructions word for word.... Thinking about it that was how I managed to pass my Physics GCSE... really didnt get a word but remembered all the information and could regurgitate it at the right places in the exam... not great..
So I have codes written down for various things, nothing spectacular, just how to add colour to places, hightlights, underlines, buttons etc.. so not too shabby!
I have also tried to alter plugins code... OMG I hear you say... but only simple things like change the name of a button or altering the position of something.. .nothing major... I have realised the skill in coding.
One thing though that I haven't thought about though...
What do you do when a tracking code is no longer needed?
Have you even thought about it?
Do you leave it where it is?
Do you go back into your theme and remove them? Not sure I would be brave enough in case I remove something thats not the tracking code....
Do you know what the accumulation of all those tracking codes in your website coding will do to its speed?
Does it actually affect the speed?
Is it necessary to 'spring clean' our code for all the defunct tracker codes?

Hello Helen,
The tracking code is provided by Google Analytics and is used to visualize the behavior of visitors on your website.
If you do not feel safe where to place it I recommend you do it through WA support. They can do the job without inconvenience.

I’m good thanks Claudio.. pretty maverick when it comes to plonking code into my theme.. but removing it.. that’s a whole different ball game’!
Good Morning Helen,
I am also wary of codes. To be sure where I am going I do the following: In draft and visual I highlight a little piece of the sentence above and or below the code that has to disappear. Then I go in text and at least see exactly where it is. I think it does help not to delete something which you should not.
Greetings from the south of Spain.
p.s. anything you do not need on your website one should better take away. Like as deactivated plugins.
