Surgery Canceled for Now

Last Update: January 22, 2014

Hello, my WA family. I have been around, but not too active lately.

I had my pre-op yesterday for the hip replacement surgery scheduled for next week. It turns out I am a very high risk for surgery at this time. There are risk factors that cannot be changed which means I will have a spinal instead of general anesthesia However, other risk factors can be lessened with hard work. Need to control stress, blood pressure and Diabetes. I am very disappointed because I was looking forward to getting rid of the pain. (Not allowed to have pain meds during this time period). I will just have to do what I need to do to make surgery safer for me.

So, am I going to give up on WA? NO! Bite down on a pencil and proceed.

Do what you need to do and have the surgery. I just had mine done in Sept and was up the same day. PAIN FREE. The hardest part was no meds before. I was hurting. You can get there!

I just had a friend that went through what you are going through. He is now fine and pain free! You can do the same. Follow your doctors orders and you'll come through this fine.

Hello Hart48, I believe that safe is so much better than being sorry. Sometimes delays happen for our good. Your reasons for the delay are paramount to your recovery period.
I had major back surgery in August and I had to get my health together before my surgeon would proceed. I appreciate the fact that he made me wait until I was physically and mentally prepared. It made for a quicker and easier recovery.
Working through the pain will make you really appreciate the results of the surgery when it is done.
I serve an amazing God who looks out for our best interest, and will put a comma where we want a period. Stay encouraged!
Be blessed!

Thank you, Jackie. Actually, I am appreciating the delay. I was rushing into surgery without preparing myself. I got all my ducks in a row as far as Lily, my husband, house, etc. But, I had not taken the time to take care of the issues with my health. I have a habit of forgetting the "me" issues. By talking to the surgery team, I realized that my health is not going to get better without me taking action. I never doubted my God would take care of me during the surgery. But, he expects me to do my part before I get there. Thank you.

Reading sandiccc's comment gave me an idea. Rather than focusing on your WA goals, it'll be worth setting health goals such as eat one salad, make one green smoothie, have lemon juice in water on getting up etc., all of which will bring you closer to your blood pressure and diabetes goals. You'll feel good about achieving these, which will help with stress and may even in themselves help ease the pain. And then you can tackle WA... First priority is to get your health back.

Gee Betty, that's a shame. All that organizing that you'll have to do again. Blegh. I too agree with the people who've posted about juicing and green smoothies - they're a great way to get everything your body needs and help you take some steps toward controlling the diabetes. Good luck - It starts today! You've got some goals to set and some great things to achieve - chin up! I know you're a determined woman - just look at what you've done in your time here at WA. Best wishes.

Hi Betty,
Have you thought of juicing for reducing blood pressure, stress and diabetes. It works for so many ailments. Juicing is the easy way to eat raw and it's also less taxing on the body for digestion because the food has already been broken down. Just 'google' which would be the best juicing combinations, e.g. apple & beetroot, etc, and get a family member to do it for you. Anyway, I'm certain that everything will work out as it should. All the best and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers : )

Juicing is great especially the greens. Apple & carrot with ginger is also a good combination. One of my favorite. many people have nursed themselves to health through juicing.

I was going to look into the raw and now I will look into juicing. Will use all this research for posts later. Two birds with one stone so to speak.

Hey Betty, check out Simply Raw - Curing Diabetes in 30 Days. An experiment by Dr Gabriel Cousens MD, who took 6 seriously diabetic patients and fed them raw food for 30 days. Within ONE WEEK all but one of them were off all their insulin and other medications. By the end of the project, one Type 2 diabetic had pulled out (not because it wasn't working though, he was already off his insulin and meds, far more a psychological block to healing than a physical one), one Type 1 and three Type 2 diabetics were totally cured and one Type 1 diabetic had reduced his insulin from 70 to 5 units per day. Not saying they didn't go through the mill, quite a radical change of lifestyle, but it worked and by the end of it there were huge grins all round. You can get the DVD or Dr Cousens also wrote a book about it. But would highly recommend watching the DVD - very inspiring. Wishing you all the best Betty, you're clearly a very strong and determined lady, so have no doubt you can make whatever changes you need to get this thing handled. In my thoughts and prayers... you go for it! :-) Juliet

Hello again Kav, just checked out Dr Joel Wallach - very interesting stuff. I totally agree with him regarding the importance of minerals and to me the "emptiness" of conventionally-grown food is almost worse than the toxic pesticides it is laden with.... it really turns eating into a pretty pointless exercise when you think that the reason we feel hungry in the first place is because our bodies are craving nutrients! Well, it ain't gonna get those from any conventional fare, that's for sure! I eat organically as far as possible, although that's not always easy in the part of South Africa that I live in. And I supplement with trace minerals every day. The more I read about the importance of minerals such as in the brilliant work that Dr Wallach is doing, the more I realise how important - and overlooked - this is. Thanks for bringing this amazing doctor to my attention, I really appreciate it. As time goes on I look forward to finding more and more doctors like this. I love it when they bring their medical knowledge but look behind the symptoms and examine the causes of disease instead. And then look for a natural solution to the imbalance present. Coz that's where real healing's at. Thanks again for the info Kav :-)

You are no stranger to hard work so I hope to hear back things improved and you get the surgery next time!

I like the idea about meditation, and I've known a few people who swore Reiki did wonders -- it is a complicated practice -- but after all it is based on life force energy and is somewhat "laying on of hands", don't forget there should be free distance reiki sessions available if you search on the internet.

In Hawaii, actually on this Island, they offer distant healing as well, it is still life force based, check out the page here: http://www.huna.org/html/hcircle.html

Throw in some of those massages as well if you have any time left after all the suggestions!

As always I wish you the very best.

I was advised to do massages some time ago, but I never got around to it. Regret that now. I actually wanted to study Reiki at one time. I think I am headed in the right direction. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Betty, if you permit, I shall suggest you the followings:

1. Do some meditation everyday at least for 20 minutes to manage your stress.
2. Get some Reiki Healing from some Reiki Healer.

I appreciate your strength to face the odds. Keep it up. Have faith on almighty. You will win.

I too can empathise with you. I had a hip replacement just over a year ago. It had been scheduled and my cousin from Austria had booked her flight to help me when I got home, and at the pre-op my surgery was cancelled because the doctor found some sort of irregularity with my heartbeat. I was booked in for a cardio-something-or-other (can't remember) four weeks later.... Meanwhile my cousin came since she had booked her flight already and just spent time with us. I did have my operation eventually and my cousin came over for a second time....

But unlike you, I was no longer in much pain. My bones had fused and when that happens, the pain becomes bearable again. When I was in a lot of pain I couldn't have my operation because my mother was dying of cancer in Vienna and I needed to be able to fly regularly to Vienna and back to help her.

Blood pressure and diabetes you should be able to help along with diet. Stress is more difficult - I had the same problem.... not too surprising that my blood pressure was high when I'd just been told that my operation was going to be postponed....

I hope you have someone who can help with Lily, so you don't need to stress too much about her wellbeing.

Thinking of you and sending you lots of love across the miles...

I like your attitude :) Though, please do take time out for you. I know you want to see your site moving along like all of us do lol, but the internet will always be here. We are only at the very start of this new field (I think of it like being in the wild west days). It's always going to be here and will only get bigger.

Please take care of you. Do what you can, when you can but don't push yourself beyond your limits (think of that stress!).

Much hugs to you for a speedy solution :)

I laughed when I read the booklet they gave me yesterday. It said to clean the house thoroughly, do all laundry, put fresh linens on the bed, and cook ahead meals and freeze before surgery. Well Dud! If I could do that, I would not need surgery. All that stuff is very difficult if you can't sit, stand, walk, or lie down at times. Thank you, Michelle.

Seriously? They gave you a book telling you to do that!!! OMG I never stop being amazed at the number of idiotic things people do. sheesh. I think I'd be registering a complaint with the place so whoever had that bright idea can get a helping hand up backside the head lol.

I'm really sorry to hear that they will not be moving forward with your hip replacement for now. I too nee both of my hips replaced. However, I will have to lose 70 lbs before they will operate. It's kind of a catch 22. I need to be able to walk as part of a balanced program for weight loss. So, I am working on my upper body. Keep pushing forward even if a little bit at a time. Lord Bless
