A bit down about rankings and SEO

Hi all. I have been in WA for 2 months now. I've two active websites - one a result of Bootcamp and one is a niche website. I am writing here today, because I'm a bit down about how my niche website is ranking and doing.

Obviously my bootcamp website is not that original, since most of us has a variation of it too, but I do try and I even generated one sale out of it (not of WA but of another great way to make money; only limited to UK)

But that's not the point.

My point is that I feel a little down as the other website I have - http://blogrador.com is where I actually put my all heart and soul into and where I had (and still have) tons of ideas. I've been complimented on it quite a lot, been told it's pretty unique etc and I really do my best, but for some reason, contrary to y bootcamp website, Blogrador.com is not getting any rankings at all at least according to Serplab.

I've inserted about 40 different keywords into Serplab from all my post and pages and only two of them have been barely recognised at all somewhere really down there in top100. I have bought a domain for this website, I have promoted it constantly where I could, I created FB page for it, I have used decent keywords in moderate way etc... google just doesn't rank it anywhere in top 100

Any thoughts?

I'd appreciate any input

Thanks

Hi Anna,

I wouldn't get too worried just yet.

First, you just registered your domain Feb 8th. So it's a very new domain.

Since then (about 37 days), by my research you've written 18 pages (17 discounting the privacy page). That's a decent clip.

Also according to my research you've got about 4 external links. 1 is not worth mentioning, 2 are from facebook, and 1 from this post.

The fact that the one from this post has registered so quickly speaks well of WA's clout, though the topic is money focused not dog focused.

You are obviously indexed as you likely know, and according to site:http://blogrador.com (click here to see: https://goo.gl/KJzBY0) Google has all 17 of your pages listed.

I checked quick out at moz, and your domain authority is a 1. That basically corroborates what I (and others) have implied, which is your site is just a puppy right now.

Ironically, when I search for "A good and cheap dog cage" the fifth result is your G+ page, which links to the corresponding page on your site (https://blogrador.com/my-man-cave).

That's also pretty cool because it means the effort you're putting into G+ is helping.

Another thing that recently happened is that a new Google algorithm (Fred - don't look at me I don't name them) recently came on the scene (though Google isn't confirming that, which is normal).

What that means is that Google is going through a kind of flux at the moment and rankings are dancing around.

Since the dust is still settling from that update, and also from your recent activities, time is your friend. Meaning that with time things will start to shape up.

You're doing a good job, I've checked on you a couple of times since following you a while back.

You're a clever lady, you've got imagination too. Sometimes Google is a finicky snob when it comes to content.

One thing I'd ask, do you have blogrador set up in Google Webmaster Tools?

If you do, you might check the incoming links. I'd be curious to know how many incoming links G says you have vs my research.

One other tidbit; I noticed that in your sitemap.xml you've got your posts set to a weekly crawl.

You might set your blog posts to daily, at least while your site is young and you're getting comments on them. That will help Google slurp up the changing content a bit more frequently.

My recommendation would be to keep doing what you've been doing.

You're making good strides on your site, so keep up the pace. You seem to be hitting G+ pretty regularly too, I'd keep that up because it's working.

FB is being picked up as well so keep your efforts going there too.

You seem to be doing all the right things, it's just going to take time.

Pretty soon your puppy is gonna grow up :)

James

Wow James I am absolutely stunned and so grateful that you took all this time and trouble to check my page and rankings so thoroughly.. You also have a superior knowledge to how to go about things lile that - I do have Webmasters, analytics and all that jazz but to be honest I haven't got around to understand tchem fully yet and havent been checking on tchem, focusing on the website, the content and checking SEO on SERPlab as it seems easier for a newbie like me.

Since you obviously are more Pro at things I will trust your judgement completely and keep doing what I'm doing. I'll switch the sitemap to daily as well if you think that best. I've only done it weekly because I publish on Blogrador about once a week now not counting first week when I published everyday just to keep it running.

Again thank you so much for taking such a detailed look at my case and letting me know it is not hopeless:)

Anna

No worries Anna, it's going to be exciting to see you succeed.

I'd love to see you in Vegas, so remember to focus on your boot camp site too as you have time :)

I am keeping it going as well, but I seriously doubt I'd be even remotely close to the Vegas target lol

Hi there Anna,
I have just looked at your site and I see you have put a lot of work into this project and it looks well .
I see that in total between posts and pages there are about 20 in total, which is not a lot.
I have seen websites with totals of 60-70 posts/pages here in WA and they say that the amounts of quality content gets their sites ranked.
I would suggest that you keep doing what you are doind, keep adding more posts with great keyword ideas and I'm confident that you will be successful
Keep up the good work
Cheers and best wishes
Phil Browne

Thanks Phil, I definitely will... I have tons of content ideas and lots of photos ready too. I will definitely get more in time.. just don;t wanna do it all at once and burn out early.
My website is only young though. Now that i have read all those nice posts I feel better about it

What a cute website! Personally, I think you got really lucky with the website that did make a little bit of money early on. Even though I used a LOT of "low hanging fruit" keywords, my rankings have been disappointing. Only last week, 3 1/2 months into my WA journey, have some of them started ranking - on pages 4-7 which is way lower than I hoped for. I used Jaaxy so I can easily check my rankings every morning.

Kyle wrote a great post a month or so ago taking about traffic being like a trickle of water at the top of a mountain af first then it eventually becomes a river if you don't give up. This is most likely the period where people get frustrated and want quit.

Hi Anna, I know how you feel because I've had the same feelings and I posted a similar post to yours. And then I got the answers that my site was still a baby according to Google (I had 20 pages/posts at the time). So I've kept writing and posting, and for a long time there wasn't much change, but now, at 6 months, 10 pages and 26 posts, the rankings are starting to appear and the URL for the name is finally on page one. So my advice to you is the same as it is to me, which is, don't get disheartened, just keep going and you will get there!
It will happen :-) Two months at WA isn't long in the scheme of things.
Best of success,
Soraya

I actually remember your post - I'm glad it worked out for you. Thanks for giving me some hope with your similar story :)

I feel your pain. If this was easy, everyone would do it. We have been feeling good when a post ranks well, then we feel horrible when what we think is a really good post, doesn't seem to show up anywhere. We are just continuing to press on! That's all we can do at this point. Keep writing, keep researching, keep going.

Thanks for the replies - I know time is going to work at my advantage. I'm just surprised that one of my sites is ranking decently and the other is barely ranking at all.
And I just mentioned keywords to show that I do remember about them and as means to track my ranks - I honestly don;t focus on them that much.. It's all about the content - I publish regularly, the website health is really good and I have quite a lot published considering that the website is only about month old.
I guess I'll just have to keep waiting and publishing more:)

Hey Anna, sorry you are feeling a bit down right now. I know how you feel. We joined at about the same time and I began asking myself the same questions.

The tool that I have been using is in the SiteRubix where we access our websites. Once this is open, there is a "health bar" indicator. I have two sites that are red and one that is light blue. Just below that bar are a couple of short statements, click on the one that says "View Details". When I first did this, I was a bit taken aback with some of the red signs. I still have two: Site Trust and Website Feedback.

If you have not done so yet, take a look at these.

I know all about website health - both my websites are pretty good - blue to be exact,, I think it's just an internal WA tool to show you where you need more work rather than google tool. It is a variable of how often you publish, how much feedback and comments you are receiving and replying and website trust and plugin set up.If you have it red, you need to do some work I suppose:) Site trust I think will come with time and Site feedback you can actually request here in WA Site Manager - by offering 2x feedback or comments to people, you can request one etc

Well, I took a look and I'm not exactly sure if the purpose of the site is humor or something else?

I think it's needs an "About" page and not just about the Shaun the dog but also about you, the true author of the site, since everyone knows in reality that the dog didn't really write the blog posts.

Hi thanks for your advice.. I actually thought about it myself and considered an about me page, but didn;t like the idea since I DO want it all to keep under that dog-written-blog theme where everything really fits that idea and the human mu is just a humble editor. I have asked Kyle about this and he agreed I did not need an About Me page as my page called Introdogtion was it's equivalent :)
To answer your question - the purpose is both humour and educational content about labradors

I think it would be clearer still if you added a brief "About" page and say something about yourself in first person as yourself and say how Shaun is your dog (or rather you're his human) and say how he's very expressive and likes to think he's funny and smart and hence the reason for this site is to impart information and stir up laughter (or something like that). JMHO

Like Rich said, focus on the content and not so much the keywords. It takes a few months before google starts to really recognize your site.

The longer your site is active, the the more you will start to rank higher. I have been her 6 months now and although I haven't generated any sales, I have learned so much especially since this is my first online business.

I know it's only a matter of time before I break through. I know how you feel about giving it your all and not getting the results, but you have to understand that having patience and not giving up is a must in order to succeed at this.

Just keep pushing through and you will eventually figure it out.

Wish you the best,
Ralph
