All The Right Reasons
I'm into my second year here and appreciate this community more and more every day, whether I''m active or not. Even if i don't add to my site for a few days, post a blog daily, or add to my network, I'm always doing something productive. Just knowing I have sites hosted here gives me a lot of peace of mind.
I know the recent shake-up, based on some of the posts I've read have left some people extremely disappointed, and i understand why in some cases. But we need to take this opportunity (for lack of a better word) to step back and remember why we joined WA in the first place.
Speaking only for myself... I had been trying to get a handle on how internet business works and, if you have been reading any of my past blogs, you know, I've dabbled in it before, albeit kind of half-assed. So when I stumbled on this amazing WA community, it appeared as if I finally found an oasis in a treacherous desert full of bandidos and thieves trying to steal the last drop of water from my canteen.
For most of my time here, I've been seeing my rank fluctuate between 120 and 250. I was about 158 when the bomb went off and my rank soared to 213, which seems pretty accurate to me, because I hadn't really contributed all that much prior to the change and I was actually wondering why my rank had not changed by much. But then it did. So, as I write this, the magic number is 213.
But remember what I said earlier? We mustn't ever lose site of the reason we joined WA in the first place. The numbers we should be worried about are the ones you see in your bank balance or Paypal account. So, if you have your priorities straight, you'll find that the numbers between 1 and 200 are not so great.
I'd rather be looking at five or ten thousand.

Hi Hal, you are right, a few 000's wouldn't go amiss! I realised long before the recent 'numbers' change, that a balance was required between time spent on my site, training and here in WA.
I decided that as long as I could keep myself flucuating under the 200 mark that gives me enough time to do most things generally. But, if I have to concentrate on anything specifically for a while, so be it... the numbers go up! Sue :)

My rank dropped about 20 points. It is hard to believe that, at one time, I held position #3 for a few days, maybe a week before it dropped off again, but for about nine months I was in the top 12.
But, I didn't belong there. I had people tell me this and in all honesty, I knew it.
However I got on the helping kick, only to find out that there were people on here that could see that I was no candidate for helping others. Others could see I simply did not have the right personality to be able to communicate effectively on here without causing problems trying to do this.
In all, a number of people have suggested that I don't spend any amount of time on WA doing this when I should be doing the work on my campaigns. For some time I justified helping and being active on here but had to be shown that there are others that can afford to do both and do a much better job. I finally gave it up and actually removed much of my content from here.
This in itself was viewed as counterproductive but I felt it had to be done so I could clear my mind.
I'm very happy to see the recent adjustments. It gives me more resources that I need since most of my Buddy List is purged as well in my efforts to remove the rubbish from my email notifications.
It is ever important that we keep our focus on the original reason why we joined WA in the first place. The people I once resisted with justifications I now thank, for I was only wasting mine and others' time trying to help on here and publishing content that really didn't belong.
I firmly concur that we must be here for all the right reasons, whatever that is for each member. For me, it's not trying to be one of the top, most respected individuals on here, but to stay off the radar and quietly do the work that really matters.
I believe that after all these years, Kyle and Carson are still tweaking and experimenting trying to find the perfect formula. After all, this is their baby and they want it to thrive and grow. As it becomes mature, strong and wise, so do the the rest of us.
