Turned down by an affiliate... ;-(
I just got on e-mail from avantlink.com They say that I do not qualify for their affiliate program for the following reason:
Who We Aren’t Looking For:
We reserve the right to deny any Affiliate application. Red flags include:
- Sites using applications or adware known to overwrite cookies
- Excessive use of banners with no supporting content
- Flash or graphics-only websites
- Sites made up of duplicate content only
- Sites that have no value-add content
- Any use of black-hat SEO tactics
- Affiliates that participate in blog or comment spam
Can some PLEASE look at my site
Specifically:
http://4travelersonly.com/clothing-and-other-essentialsfor-your-long-awaited-journey
and tell me if I might have excessive advertising? That might be the reason for the turn down.
Thank you !
Greg

OK Greg, one of their "rules" is no blog or comment spam. You have comments on the side bar from WA members. It is possible that they may think that you are participating in some blackhat SEO tactic. I am only guessing on that.
Your site would look much more professional if you did not have entire paragraphs in the H1 and H2 font settings. The H1 should be used only for the Post Title. You can use H3 or H4 for sub headings. Everything else should be in the paragraph font.
You have some good and interesting content on that site. Just work on it a bit an re-submit. If they reject you again just move on to another retailer. Good luck to you.
It might help at least with that retailer. Your Home page looks good now but each one of the posts has the entire 1st paragraph in H3. Is that part of your theme or can you change it? Your pages look great. It is the large print in the posts I am referring to.
If you don't mind my asking what affiliate were you turned down for? I know Amazon likes high traffic websites or blogs.
I noticed that your latest post had 11 affiliate links but they're not banners so I don't see any red flags. Their could be others they didn't include.
I've been turned down by some affiliates too. Who knows why? Try again later and you might be surprised.

Hey Greg,
See if you can find a phone number of the affiliate manager, or at the very least an email, and contact them. Ask them if they wouldn't mind giving you the exact reason why they rejected you and would they reconsider your application if you fixed it.
As your website is relatively new, I would remove any and all advertising and give it a chance to rank on quality content merit. This will remove any and all doubt from the affiliate manager's mind that you are not using excessive advertising.
The first two paragraphs of that post that you linked to has a font that may be a bit off putting as it's bold and very large. Was it your intent to have it display in that manner? I just found it rather "in your face" when I was looking at it. Perhaps reducing the size to that of the rest of the post may help with respect to the affiliate manager.
Also, if you have the chance to get in contact with the affiliate manager, explain to them that you intend to use ethical and above the board marketing practices and will be willing to work with the manager to get your website compliant with their policies. Let them know that you are a member of Wealthy Affiliate and are learning the appropriate procedures for setting up a website properly.
If all else fails, there are thousands of affiliate programs out there. Most affiliate managers want to work with people because it's in their best interest to do so. But if they are not, simply move on.
Best Regards,
Jim
Thank you ...that is very helpful.
