Bulletproof Breakfast

You may have heard of Bulletproof Coffee.

It claims to be the ultimate breakfast energy boost.

It’s basically a supped up version of instant coffee.

Ingredients:

1 glass of water (8oz/226g)

2.5 tbsp freshly ground high quality coffee

2 tbsp grass-fed butter or ghee (clarified butter)

1 (or more) tbsp of mct oil of coconut oil (always start off with 1 tsp and work up to 1 tbsp over a few days)

Directions:

Bring water to a boil.

Make coffee.

Add the healthy fats and pulverize in a high powered blender for 20-30 seconds drink and be high on energy for 6 hours.

The creator of the bulletproof coffee advocates skipping breakfast and allowing the bulletproof coffee to fuel your body and mind until lunch and help you lose weight by not eating a substantial breakfast.

I don’t agree with this method of starting your day.

My approach is somewhat different, I take a much more relaxed view on my post-breakfast energy bomb.

I prefer to eat breakfast like a king.

Then finish it off with a nutritional powerhouse of a coffee which keeps the fuel burning until lunchtime.

It’s always good to start your day with nuts especially almonds as they help your stomach to produce hydrochloric acid which aids your digestion.

This is very important when you 'break' the 'fast' every morning and have 'breakfast' as this is when your stomach is naturally low in acid.

You don’t need many, I usually have 7 almonds, a few hazelnuts and a couple of walnuts. I would eat more pecans but I cannot find them fresh here in Italy.

When possible all nuts should be purchased fresh and whole in their shells as packaged nuts go rancid very quickly and don’t retain their nutritional value for very long.

Nuts also contain enzyme inhibitors which are molecules that bind to enzymes and decrease their activity.

We want maximum enzyme activity from the food we eat so we have to release the enzyme inhibitors by soaking our nuts in a warm brine solution of fresh spring water and pink rock salt for at least 7 hours. (or any kind of full spectrum salt will do, like celtic sea salt, red, black, grey salt. It's important not to use mineral deficient salt like standard table salt or iodized salt, a salt with some colour will naturally contain iodine and a whole array of minerals!!)

That’s the starter over, now on to the breakfast main course.

I like to mix it up with a variety of fruits, perhaps half an avocado, an apple, a kiwi, a pear and a peach or a plum.

This is great when I only have myself to think about but usually I make a big double portion of smoothie for myself, my gloriously radiant partner, our three amazing kids.

Beware this operation may take longer than your usual extruded breakfast cereal and milk combination, at present it takes myself 20 minutes to prepare the following

Our smoothies change as often as the fruit in our fridge so a typical summer smoothie may look like this:

1 avocado

1 mango

1 apple

1 banana

1 peach

1 kiwi

1 handful of fresh mulberries

3 Tbls coconut oil (work your way up to this amount of this extremely beneficial fat as it may have a laxative effect on newcomers, I recommend starting with 1 Tbls)

1 Tbls raw local honey or manuka or 2 Tbls coconut sugar (low-glycemic sugar)

2 Large Medjool dates will usually be sweet enough to allow you to not use a sweetener but they are expensive here in Europe.

(Although a sweetener may not be needed I find that people making a transition to these new foods may find the taste somewhat over-powering so a natural sweetener can help)

2 Tbls lucuma/camu camu (concentrated powdered form of native south american superfruits)

1 tsp raw cacao powder

1/4 tsp cinnamon powder

1 vanilla pod with seeds scraped out and added to smoothie

750ml-1 litre fresh mountain spring water

Blend in a high powered blender. I usually blend in stages, fruit and water first (not all the water) then I’ll add the sweetener and powders and blend again, then the oils and blend again adding water until I get the desired creamy consistency.

This is great for getting a lot of nutrients into your families diet all at once and first thing in the morning.

If your children are fussy with fruit and won’t try drinking it you can make nutritious ice-pops out of commercial plastic icicle pop moulds. Which I usually have a steady supply of in the freezer as snacks for my little ones.

Then and only then am I ready for the final course of my breakfast fit for a king. This is my ‘upgraded bulletproof coffee’…

Also known as Cobalamin Tonic in the Sun Sync world of Solar Nutrition or Time Conscious Eating.

It is called Cobalamin Tonic as the special combination of mayple syrup, raw cacao and top quality mountain-grown coffee is known to precipitate a cobalamin reaction in our bodies, which basically means it helps our body to produce the rare vitamin B12.

Those of you on the path to good health know just how important this elusive vitamin is.

Cobalamin Tonic ingredients:

1 tsp mountain-grown coffee (amount is subjective, adjust accordingly as my coffee dependency is quite low)

1 heaping tsp organic raw cacao powder

2 tsp maple syrup grade B or C, NEVER grade A as the sugar content is too high.

1-2 Tbls coconut oil (this usually depends on how much coconut oil I’ve consumed in my morning smoothie)

Top up with the highest quality full fat cream you can find.

When you start eating your breakfast like a king you’ll be consuming more nutrients in one breakfast than 90% of the rest of the world has in a whole weeks worth of breakfasts. That statistic was a total guess and I imagine quite a conservative one at that, I’m sure it’s more like 95-98%!

I can guarantee that if you start your day in this way you’ll soon have substantially more energy than you have now.

Disclaimer: If you have any known allergies to any of these foods, then avoid them. On the other hand if you have never tried any of these foods then please try a very small amount with nothing else to see if you have a reaction to it. Then avoid the food if any symptoms appear.

Great stuff.

Good stuff

interesting about adding salt to the water for the nuts and the almonds and stomach acid - heard they were good protein, some reservations on thyroid conditions

certainly the Bulletproof breakfast sounds faddy to me and won't help the adrenals

also interesting about the cobalamin
you've got some pristine ingredients though, liking your reservations on types of maple syrup - but what about raw cacao - huge debate on that

True that. Eat like a king to start your day with.
