Oh I did not know that. Is that documented somewhere? I will need to let my client know and figure out how to give them their functionality from JetPack in a different manner.
Thanks for the info.

When I added Jetpack to a website hosted elsewhere it slowed down the loading speed by 3 seconds. When a site is slow to load potential visitors go elsewhere.
Thanks Marion! I've read the same thing on other websites. Yet some say they don't see any degradation. Mostly what I read is all the backend communication really ties up server and Internet resources probably causing the sitespeed delays.
My client uses it for her social media widgets, all her site stats and security. I'm not sure what else she uses as I will need to investigate further. I will need to find other ways to provide those services so she gets what she needs. She is running a purely blogging site with several hundred visitors and said JetPack never slowed her site down, but I would dare say she probably never took any metrics to prove that assumption. We'll figure it out.
Thanks!

I am not sure what you mean. I don't currently use etags as I just learned about them yesterday, but I do use tags.
So Now i understand what you mean by tag. by the way tag are used so that you can classified your blog post in a way it become more manageable.
Hey Frank, thanks for asking because I have no idea what an etag is nor how to use them. If they do help, then I also want to know about them.

What is an etag and should we be using them?

I am trying to build a site of products as an affiliate of Amazon and am running into a problem where the images are all different sizes on my shop and category pages. Since a
I use png and jpg image formats. I have the images set in Woocommerce to the defaults of 300x300 for catalog pictures, 600x600 for single product image and 180x180 for thumbnails. This only works if you upload/download images to your media library. Unfortunately, they don't work on externally linked images. That is my dilemma.
Try become familiar with you website technical term. Have you tried pingdom to test your website speed test. The good part is that it provide you metrics why website is loading so slow.
Using this you can quick spot where you fix things.
Might have to give it a try. Looks like it is a paid service. Do you use their paid service to monitor your site? What has been your experience with the service?
The free speed test from WA gave me some suggestions but I frankly don't know how to fix JS, CSS or other programming code to improve efficiency without breaking my them or compromising another plugin. At this point I need to start looking at the easier items like images and slideshows.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Do you know where I can find it? The only one I found is 8 years old and may not work with our current version of WP. I am willing to give it a try before tearing my site apart and reorganizing my products.
Thanks!
It's been 4 years since I used Amazon. I'm returning to it now that Amazon has arrived in Australia...lol. It should be in the Widgets section if there still is one. They do change things around a lot.
Your best bet is to go to the Amazon discussion board

I had a quick browse and they were recommending removing the carousel because it can slow down the site.

I don't think they support the carousel any more. They are promoting the SiteStripe method of embedding text, image or text with image options from there. I don't see any other widget options.
I saw one recent post about someone who got in trouble for improperly linking images with Amazon. The link has to be obvious and relevant otherwise Amazon will shut you down. You can see it here - https://engagedforums.com/discussions/Amazoncom_Associates/_/VIOLATION_Linking_in_a_manner_that_makes_it_unclear_you_are_linking_to_Amazon/am-associhelp/50001.1.
I purchased the Woocommerce and supporting theme to create a "shop" of categories and images, but what is generated does not appear to be fixable. I can't open up my site with images that are random sizes all over the page. I don't see Amazon addresses this anywhere. I may have to totally revamp my site if I can't find a fix and that will cost me A LOT of time. :(
You're right, the carousel feature is no longer.
Jay (magistudios) uses Amazon. If you've seen his snack helmet site you know how nicely and evenly the images are organized. Maybe you can ask him. He is the official WA trainer and coach.

Good idea Jude. I will ping him and see if he can help.
I looked at his site and it appears he is uploading his own locally stored images into a grid format. If I did that I could certainly control my layout a lot better. However, Amazon doesn't allow us to download any of their images locally, thus the conundrum. Why does Amazon make it so difficult to sell their products?
Frustrating...
Jay might have a different view of what Amazon will or will not allow. You might get his advice about that too and let me know what he says...lol. ~Jude
Will do.
It seems odd that Amazon would give you this great API download/sync tool and then give you no control on how to display its output. I am anxious to hear what Jay has to say...
be sure to mention his football helmet site so you get his attention...lol..or better still contact him via his affiliateresources dot org website. He gets hundreds of questions here - I doubt he can get to them all. ~Jude
Thank you. This is something I will keep in mind going forward. Right now I am not using any background (just the plain white default one).
My real problem is dealing with the Amazon images. They do not actually live on your site so you virtually have no control over them. All the images are URLs back to Amazon's site. When you display them in your shop or category page they look horrible at all different sizes. If I could find a fix for this it would save me from having to do time intensive workarounds!
Thanks!

I am trying to upload an Amazon friendly theme and plugin for their Affiliates program using FileZilla and am unable to connect with my server's credentials. Is there a setting
Hey Frank,
You should be able to install a new theme and/or plugin from within your WordPress dashboard. Install Premium Theme Install Premium Plugin Hope you find this helpful
Just sent support a ticket. I think it is something they have to change on their side. I can't see anything else in my areas to change.
Thanks.
Ftp abilities to my own website?

I am using the Simple Life theme and really like everything about it. However, even though it states you can change the sidebars on different pages I cannot find a means to do
If you open up the relevant post or page and click on Screen Options, top far right of your screen, you should find a box labelled Layout or Page Attributes which you can tick.
If you then look to the right hand side of the editor window, or occasionally beneath the editor window, you should now see a Layout or Page Attributes panel, where you can select Template which will let you change the layout of a post or page.
You are awesome! Somehow I skipped over this in my side menu. I just changed my product page to be full width and tested. That page does not have the sidebar and is truly full width. The other regular blog/post pages do have the sidebar. I was honestly researching custom sidebar plugins. Now I can get back to content development. Thank you!!!
