Managing Life Ups And Downs

We all have ups and downs in our life. They are always going to be there. The important thing is how you are managing life ups and downs.

There are those who go into a blind panic when something goes wrong and at the other end of the scale are those that just shrug things off.

There was a time when I would shrug things off and then I went through a phase of going into panic mode. I broke free of that and now try, (not always successfully), to take in my stride.

I did learn that panicking was not serving any purpose other than winding myself up. It did take quite a while to overcome but I did it.

Your mindset is what is going to help or hinder you most in managing your life ups and downs. You need to retrain your mind if you are in the panic stage of your life. Your mindset is down to the things you think, say and do.

A positive mindset is what you need to set before you go any further. Again you need to be positive with good things and do away with the bad. Once you can get a positive mindset going then you are on the road to recovery. Always have a positive mental attitude toward life.

If you are of a nervous disposition then you need to look for the reasons why you are that way. We are not born nervous, but it is something we have picked up along the path of life. The time has come to seek out the demon that put it there and get rid of it. I got to know my demons and managed to rid myself of some of them, but unfortunately some are so deep rooted I have learned to live with them. Not an ideal situation but better that being constantly looking over my shoulder.

I hope this has given you an insight on where to start

I think most of it is fear of the unknown, but you will not know until you face those demons. Thanks for sharing.

This is very true.

Hi, Derek, I understand what you are talking about and the demons we carried are deeply rooted. The nervous conditions we carry are sometimes inherent. I have high anxiety that causes my nerves to act up.

I live with it every day along with being bipolar disorder and I am trying to rid myself of these demons but it is hard to do. The medication helps put them to rest. Right now they are in overdrive and I am working on calming them down.

Great post and very informative thank you for such a post.

Mary

Interesting blog post Derek - I was just watching a Neuro-linguistic programme (NLP) on youtube

Its an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, the United States in the 1970s.

I am really keen to explore this further - finding the time is the problem right now

Thanks for your comments Richard.

Thanks for sharing Derek!
I think some stability comes with age. I’ve always been a positive thinker but was much more emotional in my youth.
Now that I’m facing some of the toughest times of my life I find myself taking them in stride better than I ever could have done when I was younger.
Wishing you a peaceful weekend!

A very honest and open post about your own reality. I am sure It will help many people here at WA.
I have a different reality. I knew what a positive mindset was and how it worked from an early age. It served me well in life. However I lost it through life’s circumstances.... however it’s not gone... it just takes extra work sometimes.
With Grace and Gratitude

Derek,
The mindset is the answer for so many of our issues in life. Having parents who dealt with their lives ups and downs in two oppisite manners has helped me be aware of these times for myself. I still occasionally think to my self,
"You are acting like your father!" who was the one who got visibly upset. He would walk the floor, pacing.

Mom was cool and even-tempered. That mode usually rules my life, but there are occasional visits from Dad!
Thanks for sharing and helping our understanding of depression and its effects,
Sami

You're welcome Sami.

Derek... a positive attitude is indeed the best we can do.
And be aware of emotional non sense too...

Sit back, relax and come back.
And take a break in b;-)etween...

That is the only way to do it Fleeky.
