Amazon Ends Sale of Apple and Google Devices

Hello WA friends,

Here is a recent update of Amazon store.

Amazon is forbidding its vast army of third-party merchants from selling the Apple and Google devices after October 29.

Amazon is going to stop selling devices from Apple and Google that compete with its own streaming media players, escalating the entertainment battle between the major tech companies.

Apple TV and Google's Chromecast are popular items in Amazon's electronic store. But the devices are in a stiff competition for market share with Amazon's Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, which were introduced in 2014. The Fire Stick delivers Amazon's rapidly expanding video offerings to its customers while Apple TV and Google's Chromecast do not. The stick is crucial to Amazon's ambitions to move from being just a retailer to a multifaceted provider of everything virtual and physical.

Amazon Prime, which began as a frequent shipping service, now has tens of millions of subscribers. In an effort to build out its ecosystem, Prime's video and music components are becoming as important as quick package delivery.

Apple, Google and Amazon once made very different products. Apple made hardware like computers and smartphones, Google ran a Web search behemoth and Amazon was an online retailer. But the three companies' business models are converging with a vengeance, with each offering a combination of hardware, as well as software and entertainment like music and video.

The companies have clashed in the past. In 2012, Apple pushed Google's YouTube app off its line-up of built-in apps on iPhones and iPads, for example. That same year, Apple also installed its own maps app on the gadgets instead of using Google Maps.

As a store, Amazon likes to stress that it is a place where people can find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online. It does not want customers to go elsewhere.

How will this action of Amazon affects us?

As some of us are Amazon affiliates and if you're promoting some Apple or Google electronic products like Apple TV and Google Chromecast in your website, after October 29, you'll need again to change your Amazon link with another affiliate program selling Apple and Google devices.

Hope this will serve as a guide for some of us who are Amazon affiliates. Thank you for reading.

Thanks for the heads up Ferdie.
I welcome this information because I don't know if I would have gotten on the regular news channels, and it's good to know what's happening with these marketing giants.

Good job
See you around,
Eric

You're welcome, Eric.

You're welcome, Richard.

Thank you for keeping us in the know Ferdie.

You're welcome, Val.

Will be interesting to see how consumers will react when they can no longer order Apple and Google devices from Amazon. I can see where Amazon does not want to sell it's competition. Am also wondering if Amazon is not over extending itself.
As for affiliate marketers, will this be a major headache changing their Amazon affiliate links to accommodate this?

I don't think so. There is also an affiliate program for Apple products, just apply as an affiliate. Once approved, change those Amazon links with your new affiliate link.

Hi,

Thank you for this information which I did not know. This will help me going forward in trying to promote these products via another affiliate.
