About MaryESS
Joined June 2015
Hello,
My big passion is learning self sufficiency and cultivating a can-do and self sufficient spirit. Not relying on government or institutions as they seem to be in a growing state of disarray. I am concerned about the failing infrastructure and it's ability to deliver goods and services. A couple of recent power outages, one that happened after dark, was quite scary and a wake-up call!

I am interested in alternative living that embraces the ideals of slow living and survival living from my home, including living off the grid, homegrown food, DIY projects from home improvements, making my own clothes , water conservation, going solar etc.

I currently practice extensive water conservation and want to build this up to make it ever more efficient. I also grow as much food as I can and this has been quite a challenge, but a rewarding one. I have been able to save seeds and use them the following year, with mixed success. It is an ongoing learning process.

I think it is wise to learn self sufficiency and re-learn the old arts of making our own supplies, growing our own food, and stockpiling supplies for survival.

My other interest which segues into self sufficiency rather nicely, is I love to go hiking in the mountains! And yes, I do keep a bug-out bag!

Welcome. glad to network with you. enjoyed your website. Looks like you know your niche well. I didn't see any affiliate links of any kind though. I'm not trying to be critical, but when I look at other's websites I look to see what their monitization strategy is. Thanks for networking with me

Thanks for you input; I really do appreciate this. I don't have any affiliate links yet because I've been working on building up content. I have built up a list of companies whose products I have researched and I was impressed with them. ( I have rain barrels from one company). You would not believe how hard it was for me to make the leap to do this website.

Hello Mary thanks for following me I have also grown some fruit and vegetables - they taste so good and smell so good and it's a great feeling to know you are not consuming harmful chemicals and hormones. There is so much flouride in my tap water that my dogs won't drink it! Best of success to you in spreading the knowledge!

Hi Mary.
I just replied to a comment you left on my profile, then read this. Now, I REALLY think you should visit my site. I would love for you to join our community. My site speaks of creating a better world for future generations and how we can get there. It stands for The World I See Begins With Me. Mostly speaks of everyone taking responsibility for their part in the world we live in today and the world we want to leave for our children.

Hi YaelLynn,

I looked over your site and it looks very polished, there is nothing "beginner" about it. It has a positive "vibe" to it. I really liked the picture on the header. My site looks very homemade, lol. I am not comfortable posting it here for everyone to see. I will get back to reading your site more in depth later, probably tonight. I seem to be having a very disjointed day and having a particularly hard time getting a post written. Back to the editing!

Hi Mary. I'm sorry I missed this message 2 months ago. Thank you for the kind words. If it's any consolation, I've had many a day when it just wasn't working for me. I recently set up an RSS feed to go out every Saturday morning. This forces me to get at least one new post up every week. Although last week, I literally finished it on Friday night. I hope you get back to my site soon and subscribe. I've done several new posts since you wrote this and I can completely tell the difference in my writing from when I started to now. Still seems novice to me, but waaaayyyy better written than my first few posts.

I wish you the best in all you do. Thank you again for the encouragement.

Well, it looks like you already know your niche! There are probably a lot of ways to get some affiliate commissions from your interests in gardening, self-sufficiency, survival, etc. Of course, it is a crowded playing field, but my understanding is that the training at WA is to help us stand out from the crowd.
Reply

Yes, it is a crowded playing field, but everything on the web is these days. I am doing this from the heart and am not out for glamour, fancy stuff or anything that could be considered materialistic. It is a values way of life. Friends have asked for advice on ways to do things and have been interested in my perspective, so I thought, why not make a website out of this?

Hi Mary,
Thank you for the follow! It sounds like you have quite a few ideas on related niches...self sufficiency, DIY, solar, etc. I find these topics very interesting myself, so I'm sure I'll learn a lot on these subjects from you.

This would be a huge niche and like Mike1942 is saying I'd have to agree 100%....maybe start with the one you have the most knowledge about already and go from there...just my two cents. :)

Anyways, it's great to be a part of your network and if you have questions just ask.

Best wishes in you success :) -Sherry

Me again Mary! Using the seeds from your own crop will deteriorate the quality of the seeds eventually and you have to resort to bought seeds again. This unfortunately a fact of nature and I haven't learned yet what the seed grower do to keep the quality up. It's a genetic thing!
Reply
MaryESS Premium
Hi Mike,
Thank you for both your comments. I have regrown green onions three times from the same root; after that, it does not produce any more. I am doing all kinds of experimentation with seed saving, growing in pots, regrowing from roots of store bought vegetables ( celery and cauliflower coming up now). Interesting about saving seeds. Mine saved from 2-3 yrs back don't sprout. Last year's save did. Maybe they weren't stored right. I will look up Bovis qualities ; thanks for sharing that because I never heard of it! Yes, I have a website with all this and other kinds of DIY and MIY info but it's such a mess I don't want anyone to see it....yet..
Reply
Mike1942 Premium
It's an immense niche and you need to break it up into smaller pieces. Attack one at a time and you will never run out of new material. The water one I was hinting at is a whole other bunch of niches. The seeds by your own experience will give you a lot of material. Research it on the internet and then write about what you found. The experimentation will take years to come to a conclusion but you will get the experience sooner or later! Just take small steps at a time and it won't be so daunting!
Reply
MaryESS Premium
Oh yes, there is a lot to write about and I have a huge check list of many topics. It's been interesting, to say the least. I'm getting everything down to a science or art form.
Reply
Mike1942 Premium
Sorry Mary but I won't get deep into it today. I just picked up a whopper of a cold and am fighting it! You seem to be on the right track anyway.
Reply
Mike1942 Premium
Hey Mary! I have done this for years to a more and lesser degree. I used to live on an old farmstead, married to a Blackfoot woman and tending my own huge garden, 100 chicken, and 12 pigs. Unfortunately my then wife died of breast cancer and the property was sold by the owner. I had to move and over many detours ended up marrying my present wife of 25 years and we live in a city. egad! Well \I guess I have no choice, she wants to live here and has no inkling of self-sufficiency. I also have a lot of knowledge about water and it's Bovis qualities. I learned this through Viktor Schauberger, the Water Wizard of Austria (he died in 1957). He predicted in the 1920's what would happen to our water and he was bang on!
Anyway, this is not the place to discuss our wants. needs, and knowledge!

Mary, good way of living. My partner was a senior technician in an alternative energy company in Nimbin New South Wales, Australia. We also conserve water as we live on rain water collected from the roof into tanks. Fortunately there is extremely little particulate mater in the air here so the water is excellent. We are building a straw bale house using natural renders as a sealing water proof coating. And we used our trees that needed to be cut from site and had the timber milled on our site. We reuse materials as much as possible. No garden here yet as that is a bit of work to keep the possums and wallabies from a free and varied smorgasbord! Good luck here, travel well, have some fun and keep in touch.
Reply
MaryESS Premium
Wow, I am impressed! I would like to see how a straw bale house is built in person, aside from reading about it on the web. I live in CA and we had REAL rain the other day and I have two barrels half filled. Cabbage loopers and white flies are decimating my garden but I fought back with all natural soap and garlic. Maybe I should figure out how to make cabbage looper stew...:) We do have possums here but they eat the snails and mice, so they can stay.Free range, all natural pest control! The best of luck with your new house!
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
Our possums aren't the same as yours. Where I used to live, on the mainland we had a snail problem. I decided to put the dregs of our beer brewing out out in a saucer to get the little b*****s drunk so they drowned. One morning I looked out and saw a magpie staggering around. He was eating beer marinated snails. So that form of pest control had to stop!

Hey Mary, thanks for the follow. I agree that it is probably not a good idea to look to the government for a leg up in those needy times. More and more people are beginning to adopt that prepper attitude, and all the while the feds are trying to pass laws to keep us from being self sufficient. If we ask we are lazy bums and if we try to do for ourselves, we are subservient rebels. It also looks to be a good niche. I don't want to live off grid, but I want to be able to should it become necessary, with most of my learning out of the way by then. Good luck to you.

Good morning to you Mary and I thank you for the follow. The ideal residence would be in the tropics, living off the grid, growing your own food but still having WiFi connection.
Self sufficiency is what the bible teaches, unfortunately most people don't rely on the information. As I grow older I realize how correct my Father was on how to live (which I didn't do), so now I have to be even more resourceful with everything. I started a website all about being frugal to help others in my same position.
I hope that you can see that creating another stream of income for yourself is very vital considering the health of our own government. This is the best place to start, create a website that gets a trickle of money, then rinse and repeat (build more websites that do the same thing). I wish you good fortune in reaching your goals and much success to you.
Ken

I think pretty much the same way; I advocate getting as self sufficient as possible because I see gov't and institutions unable or unwilling to live up to their stated missions. I think utilizing the web is the best tool and "escape hatch" for everyone that is stuck in their lives. One simply can't afford to expect to get a job, or at least a reliable and decent paying job. I looked around a lot before I came to WA and this is the one of the few, rare sites I trust. Just about everyone has access to the web in one fashion or another and I think they are hurting themselves if they don't use it as an income stream.

Hey Mary ,

I just wanted to follow up and see if you need anything. I see you've already taken action and completed your account profile! That's wonderful! It just goes to show you're able to follow directions and are serious about making this business work! Trust me when I say that's half the battle to success online! So you're part of a rare breed! However I see you haven't upgraded to the premium membership.

If it's because money is tight, I can hook you up. Read the following as you'll learn how others have been able to easily pay for this membership: http://bit.ly/afford_wa

At the end of the day you're obviously an action taker unlike a lot of people that may join this community and fail to do anything. As such you should be rewarded for that. So I wanted to remind you of the special bonus I'm offering you:

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR BONUS
-----------------------------------------------

If you join Premium within the next 4 days, here are some bonuses that I am going to be giving you:

(1) You are going to get a 59% DISCOUNT on your first month Premium membership (only $19)

(2) You are going to get personal and private access to me! If you ever have a question or need help with your campaigns, I will be there and even the owners of WA (Kyle & Carson) will be able to offer you personal mentoring.

(3) I am going to be giving a special "Diamond Traffic Bonus"

But only if you join in the next 4 days!

You're obviously not required to take advantage of this great offer. But the starter membership can only take you so far. It's clear as day you want to succeed. Otherwise you wouldn't have completed your profile. So I'd like to hook you up with the bonus above!

There is so much more in the way of videos, courses, live chat and private message capabilities that will help you get to the next level quicker. So keep that in mind. In fact, just check out the differences between the starter and premium membership here: I think it will help you see all that you'll get if you take advantage of the bonus and discount I'm offering you. In any event, great job again for taking action and completing your profile!

Keep taking action because every time you do it brings you closer to your success!

Take care,

Eddy with a Y

P.S. Remember if you can't afford the premium membership, I can hook you up here: http://bit.ly/afford_wa

Hey Mary!

Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate my friend! Just in case you forgot, I am Eddy with a y. LOL We met back on my blog: http://www.WorkAtHomeNoScams.com. I'm happy my babbling didn't scare you away and you had enough trust in me to give WA a shot!

Trust me when I say you made the right decision and you're going to love this community! You're on your way to building a long term online business like yours truly did because of the training and support here at WA!

That said, let's get you started on the right note so you can get the most out of your time here. As a new member, the first thing you should do is fill out your account profile. Don't even trip, it's really easy to do. All it consists of is the following simple steps:

(1) Add your profile image
(Can be anything you want. Just don't make it dirty. lol)

(2) Add a personal description.
(Let us know about yourself and why you're here at WA!)

That's it!

If you do these simple steps it will really show you're serious about learning how to succeed at this business and people will be more likely to answer your questions and help you if they see you've taken the two minutes to complete your profile. If you need help on doing this, watch the following video: Next you should definitely check out the "Get Started Here" training. This is going to get you up and running with your own website very quickly and has a lot of really easy to follow video training that is going to help this whole "process" make sense.

Here is a direct link to this training: If at any time you need help, just ask. There are a ton of good folks here within the community that will be more than happy to help you out and within the first 7 days of your Starter membership you are going to have access to Live Chat, so make sure you check that out. Just remember people are more inclined to help you if you've completed your account profile as described above.

I also have sweet bonus for those of you that are "action takers"...

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR BONUS
-----------------------------------------------

If you join Premium within the first 7 days, here are some bonuses that I am going to be giving you:

(1) You are going to get a 59% discount on your first month Premium membership (only $19)

(2) You are going to get personal and private access to me! If you ever have a question or need help with your campaigns, I will be there and even the owners of WA (Kyle & Carson) will be able to offer you personal mentoring.

(3) I am going to be giving a special "Diamond Traffic Bonus"

But only if you join in your first 7 days (this is what I call my "action takers" bonus).

Anyways, I thought I would personally welcome you. As you can see I don't just promote WA, I'm actually here as a member waiting to help you! So reach out to me. Start by filling out your profile. Don't be shy. I won't bite.
