No Union Shop Here
It's All Up To You!
Don't expect anyone else to do things for you, unless of course you have a bunch of money you want to spend paying them to do so.
This business you are building is a legitimate "real" business and by no means an overnight get rich quick with no work required by you scheme.
You must do the work, You must do the training and research, You must write the blogs and build you're sites and You must cash the checks.
Pay For Performance
I don't intend to make any enemies here and I do realize the benefit of unions, in certain situations of course .... but not all situations ... we can debate that later if you like.
What I like to call the "real" world runs on something called Pay For Performance which is much different than the fairly unfair world of unions. I only say fairly unfair in terms of employees being paid the same no matter how little or how much they actually work.
The Pay For Performance or real world working system is driven by initiative and desire to succeed. It is those who put more in that get more out. Let's not assume there are not flaws as we are dealing with us humans and some of us just don't get it. We have some names for those folks that I'm sure you've all heard before.
Those who do not work as hard or as much do not get as much. It's pretty much that simple and it makes perfect sense (to me anyway) that each individual get what they deserve.
What we are doing here at WA, the businesses we are building are Pay For Performance based and we must keep that in mind as we are building, writing, signing affiliates, taking breaks, chatting in chat and so on.
Important Question
You've all seen lists of the top xx things to do in your business or the daily list you should follow or the this or the that list.
These are all awesome lists and I have the ones I've seen starred so I can go back and reference them again. If you don't know how to "star" something let me know and I will help you out.
Most of the things on these lists are the same for the most part and it is good to have them pop up again and again as a reminder and as fresh news for new folks.
The important question though is - What works for you?
And this can only be answered by you. Only you can hone your personal system to work at your business. My system and processes may not be perfect for you or yours for me. The important thing is to keep honing and polishing your process as you work.
How?
Minimize, or completely ditch, the time you spend on things that do not add value to your business.
Maximize the time you spend on areas that need the most attention at the time. If you're starting up a new site you NEED posts and a lot of them. So ditch SEO for the moment and focus on great keywords and writing quality content.
Set S.M.A.R.T. goals. - I am a master at the SMART goal and have been using them for decades. I may even do a training on them if you are interested, let me now. For now Google them to find out what they are - yes some homework. :-)
Reward yourself for both little and big milestones and other achievements. Do not be afraid to celebrate, life is way to short not to.
Finally
I encourage you to give me a comment on your first impression of Wealthy Affiliate when you came aboard. In a sentence or two how did you feel, what did you think, did you have expectations, preconceived notions, etc etc?
ROCK ON!

Thanks for this... I will research SMART.. I found WA by accident.. started educating on social media for another gig and looked into going back to school for computer stuff..then found this! have dropped the other and here I am... hopefully some day it will pan out.. I figure for my first semester at "computer college"(WA) I'm doing ok...WA rocks!
SMART goals are awesome when used properly and applied as a system not just another acronym that's here today gone tomorrow.
WA certainly does ROCK!

Awesome brother! Love this blog! Rings true in every way and man it needs to be said. We aren't on anyones "ticket" but our own. You and I both know we create our own destiny...be it positive or negative...but the beauty is we also have the power and internal influence to change it and be who and what we want....
Keep rocking bro....I'm following

My first thought was: "Finally a place that teaches me what to do".
Had an experience with a scam thing.
Second thought was: "What a great community that helps each other"
And I still think so :)
I still think so too Max! There is no better community than the one we have here at WA!
ROCK ON!

my first impressions were confused and bewildered and
still am, at times the amount of information is overwhelming
which makes it difficult to stay on track,
but if you keep calm it does get easier,(a little)
I do not find it easy, but nothing worth doing usually is,
I have a lot to learn,
so thank you and the rest at WA for your help and advice
It is easy to get overwhelmed with so much information James. I do all the time too. One step at a time is all we can do and we will get to our goals. :-)
ROCK ON!

There's a lot of good information here, however, I beg to differ with you regarding the Pay for Performance. I wish it was like that in the real world but I've never found that to be the case. I've worked in several different states and different organizations. You'll always find people who perform more than others yet get the same pay.
Now, if some of those poor performers join WA, they are in for a big surprise and it's one of the many reasons that I like it.
When I first got here, I was overwhelmed and wasn't sure what I got myself in to. Once you hit the green button and go step by step, it all comes together. I was amazed at how many levels of knowledge we have here and how everyone works together for one goal...to be successful. ~Debbi
Kautz sez: "Those who do not work as hard or as much do not get as much. It's pretty much that simple and it makes perfect sense (to me anyway) that each individual get what they deserve."
Plenty of people work 1, 2, or 3 jobs at minimum wage struggling to support a family because in this country (USA), the richest country in the history of civilization, the pay a person receives working full time at minimum wage won't sustain a family. It won't even buy the basic necessities required to sustain life. And plenty of those minimum wage jobs require the employees to work their butts off.
I reject your premise. It's not that "simple" and most things in this world aren't.
JeffKent I'd agree with that! Millions had their pensions wiped out, lost homes etc. due to banker corruption. They did not deserve it.
Good advice. I've realise recently that my YouTube videos lead to zero traffic to my website, so I'm ditching them.
I'm good at writing content, so that's what I'm going to focus on. I'm going to write LOADS of great quality content on my site. My site needs to be a site that I myself would love if I arrived on it from a search.
It's no good just going through the motions and filling time. I need to try to be the best I can be, and always try to improve.
Now that is exactly what we all need to do Marcus!
You are going to blow this out of the water man! Heck, you just inspired me to write LOADS of great quality content!
ROCK ON!

Hi Ed, This is a good motivational, and how to get it done post. I would like to see the S.M.A.R.T. goals post.
As far as unions go, they are like any organization that has good and bad. Because I worked union jobs most of my trucking career I have seen the good and bad. I would just like to say that as Teamsters we got paid for the units loaded and the miles driven, it was based on production and the guys I worked with were hard workers.
I realize that not all unions work that way and I have seen those that should be fired keep their jobs.
When I joined WA I knew it would take some time to build a business but I didn't realize all the writing, list building, product reviewing that would be involved. But I also didn't know how much I would learn and be challenged. LOL I always said I wouldn't go back to school and hear I am at WA university. Learning, growing and being stretched ito the max in new ways.
Marty
Hey there Marty good to hear from you. :-)
Yeah unions are a great thing and are definitely an important device in our society and the Teamsters are one of the best in my book. Let's just say that without them you and your mates would be getting the shaft by corporate dogs for certain. Maybe I shouldn't have brought up the union thing, it seemed good at the time, lol. There are those that should be banned but I'll keep them to myself.
I used to teach SMART goals and must say they are very effective when used correctly. Unfortunately most folks do not use them correctly. All I needed was one person interested, and that's you Marty, so I'll go ahead with crafting the training .... be on the lookout for it.
I share your thoughts and feelings about starting WA Marty. The one thing that I had no idea or expectation about though was just how amazing the community is. My blog has basically been about motivating folks to do the work because they MUST do the work as no one will do it for them. This is true, though there is no excuses as there is an amazing community to fall back on for everything from motivation to idea generation to tools and training, moral support and so on. All for 47 bucks a month - EXCELLENT!
ROCK ON!
E
Marty I am a union man (woman ha ha) too...here at WA it does serve one to perhaps do some training review and then get busy! I am doing both at once.
So true E and I appreciate your motivation to do the work, as I need that. I am self-motivated but tend to do the things I like and sometimes
the things you don't like or struggle with are the most important.
Marty
Yeah the dislikes are tough ones to choke down Marty. I find ways to make them less distasteful so I don't mind doing them as much. When I cannot do that I put them first on the list and get them out of the way fast as I can. lol

Had plenty of time like I don't now, and did not know what I had my hands on. For this, it cost me, but am still here, still moving forward. One day at a time. I now see the potential here, and am in for the long haul. Just a side note, still enjoying your stuff, thx.
Forward is a good direction to move Wayne, speed is not so important.
I'll get you more stuff soon, I'm still having major neck issues so I'm not able to do much.
I'm in for the long haul here at WA too.
ROCK ON!
E
I'd give my left arm if there was something I could do. I stand helpless a lot with my wife too. You got a strong spirit. Let me know if I can help with anything. We are not that far away if it is important.
Thank you Wayne I/we appreciate your generosity. I'll be sure to get you some more tunes soon.
