The Subconscious Mind - How To Use It Effectively - TAGR Chapter Xll
First of all, do you believe you have a Subsconscious Mind? Chapter Xll not only confirms that everyone has a subconscious mind but how to use it to get whatever you want, including untold riches. If you are able to read this chapter first that would be awesome!
The sad part is that most people do not use their subconscious mind and the result is disastrous. Negative and destructive thoughts fill that void that prevents you from achieving what you desire in life.
The critical 6 Steps we were introduced to in Chapter ll - Desire, are very much a part of how we can use the subconscious mind effectively.
I feel the following two paragraphs are so important that I am going to quote them below:
"The subconscious mind works day and night. Through a method of procedure, unknown to man, the subconscious mind draws upon the forces of Infinite Intelligence for the power with which it voluntary transmutes (transforms) one's desires into their physical equivalent, making use always of the most practical media by which this end may be accomplished."
"You cannot entirely control your subconscious mind, but you can hand over to it any plan, desire, or purpose which you wish transformed into concrete form. Read, again, instructions for using the subconscious mind, in the chapter on Autosuggestion,"
Napoleon Hill helps us to energize our subconscious mind for creative effort. This can help us build our business more effectively.
He states the importance of actively planting desires in our subconscious mind. At the start of this post I mentioned what happens if you don't.
Positive Emotions
The 7 mos powerful positive emotions we have are:
- Desire
- Faith
- Love
- Sex
- Enthusiasm
- Romance
- Hope
There are other positive emotions of course. And if we master these, the others will come into use too. If we don't, guess what happens.
Negative Emotions
Our minds will fill with any of the 7 most powerful negative emotions:
- Fear
- Jealousy
- Hatred
- Revenge
- Greed
- Superstition
- Anger
An amazing fact is that positive emotions and negative emotions cannot occupy the mind at the same time!
It is up to us to decide what ones we apply. Because whichever ones we chose will dominate our minds.
Positive emotions do not automatically occupy our minds.
Danger Zone
The best way make that happen is by using the habit technique. The danger is that just one negative emotion dominating our minds can destroy all chances of developing positive emotions necessary to succeed in our goals.
I feel we can all relate to several of these like fear, greed and anger.
This chapter ends with an intriguing thought.
When we experience a disaster or utter failure in our lives, it is then many of us resort to prayer.
This is a complete waste of time. The reason is our minds are then filled with one or more of the negative emotions. We cannot use the power of positive emotions to help us connect with Infinite Intelligence where the solutions to our problems lay.
What can one do?
Prayer
The answer is to pray when we are able to plant positive emotions in our minds. We stand a better chance of connecting with Infinite Intelligence where we can find the solution on how to achieve our desires.
This is the best way to make prayer work! Reading from a prayer book alone will not help us get results.
The best way to pray is to use our own words and positive emotions. That is the way to help our subconscious mind connect with Infinite Intelligence using the training in Chapter Two.

This chapter emphasizes the strength of our subconscious mind. It is our filling system in our brain. Although we can't completely control it, Hill states we can give it thoughts. This is where repeating your affirmation becomes critical. Through the habit of repetition you can give the subconscious a plan (your affirmation) that will transform that plan into a concrete form.
Hill also states that emotionalized thoughts have more influence on our subconscious Negative or positive, they pack more punch. Using the positive ones, that you listed above, should fill your subconscious with plans for success.

Hi Barbara,
The human mind has more power than many of us are able to use without training. You brought up some good points here.
Thanks for your contribution.
Edwin
I know the book and philosophy of Mr Hill.
It helps me as well, and I think I understand some of the process. I am familiar with his technique and have seen some amazing things come about. It definitely works.
But I want to add this comment: I sense many people have money or riches as their ultimate goal, as if that's where their lives will be fulfilled.
But this is a deception. Many rich people are totally unsatisfied and unhappy, constantly under pressure and fear, even up to depression. Many fall into abusive pleasures which destroy their health, relationships and well-being.
Only wise and strong people can handle a lot of money properly.
If our satisfaction comes from having money, then we will always be looking for more money to be satisfied, and the more money we have, the more we will need to be satisfied.
The value of a million is not at all the same for a millionaire as for a popper.
So to me, money is only but a mean to attain a true goal.
We need money for something. But it is not the goal itself.
What we need is a truly satisfying vision for a daily life, complete in all it aspects.
To name a few :
Spiritual and emotional balance and inner peace,
Wisdom and sensitivity in caring and managing other people or family, as to be able to encourage them and cause them to prosper,
Developing personal health habits, joy and happiness, daily thankfulness, praises (When did you last praise for something? Praise is to deeply appreciate and learn from others, who you esteem greater than yourself.)
Finding love and kindness towards people,
Being able to focus and concentrate until accomplishment of a useful work or project, having faith and vision for something,
Finding useful encouraging work and prospering projects,
Attaining results in sports, art or music, or writing, through faithful diligence and discipline,
Having friends and cultivating trustworthy relationships with them,
Learn to communicate from the heart and not get hurt, threatened or offended by what people think or say...
These are some goals that would give us a more solid purpose and foundation for a fulfilled life.
And money THEN would help us fulfill those goals.
But the love of money it self, is called a root for all kinds of evil.
Just a comment, to consider in our walk of life.
Thanks for writing, and good luck to all of you too.

Hi Sebb,
Thanks for sharing your perspective. When Mt/ Hill wrote this hook, he made it clear that those industrialists he modeled his book on had used their wealth to benefit mankind. In fact, their quest was not for money, but the change they made in society. And money was a by product.
One of the reasons I hadn't read this book for over 30 years since I got a copy was the title put me off for the exact reasons you mentioned. I wish Napoleon Hill had come up with a different title.
I don't even like to tell people that I am reading this book as it can give the incorrect impression that all I want is to get rich. In fact what I want is to have the means to do the things in life I want to do.
If money is ones only objective, that is a hollow one. I feel that most people know what the main purpose of this book is. And that is what makes all the difference in the world.
Glad you emphasized this point.
Cheers.

This why the old rich guy said in his will:
Being of sound mind and body, I spent all of my money before I died.
The bulk of my vast fortune I spent on wine, women, and song.
All the rest I wasted.
You are so right on! Money should only be the instrument that allows us to give greater service or to develop more of what we truly desire in our life. Money in itself is not satisfying. It's all the ways we can use it wisely and well. I like the idea of asking for those things rather than money...
I have been practicing for 6 years years to give to my subconscious mind and what Napoleon Hill writes is all true.
Love it.
Its all very true Edwin. I have been studying the subject for nearly 40 years on and off. The subconscious mind is incredibly powerful.
It can damage and hold you back or it can give you your hearts desire.
Wow Linda, that is surreal and so awe inspiring. I appreciate you validating this chapter.

One thing I have to say right away...I have a friend and mentor here who has a Ph.d in some kind of behavior stuff...can't remember exactly. However, she always throws a fit when she sees the word "subconscious." She says there is no such thing as the subconscious mind. It should be the "unconscious mind."
So, okay, we can read it that way, and the chapter still has the same meaning. It's our path to Universal Mind. It's the one way we can reach the Universe to convince it to give us what we want.
I really like the point about praying when you are in a positive frame of mind. I've been taught that if we focus on the negative, we will get negative. If we want positive results, we need to focus on positive. Seems to me that is especially important in prayer...if we focus on what is negative, we might just bring ourselves more of the same.
I'm reading my little blurb to the Universe every day, so hoping I will see some good results.
