Why You Need To Ignore WA Member Advice Right Now!

Well let me rephrase that. This article is about why you should ignore SOME of your fellow member's advice. Let me start off by saying that no disrespect is intended in this article. But if you've read my past posts here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/eddysalomon/blog, you know I'm about to keep it painfully real. And sometimes that leaves certain people feeling uncomfortable. If that's you, just know it's an unintentional side effect of reading my stuff. lol

So What's My Deal?

Wealthy Affiliate is obviously the best and most helpful internet marketing community on the planet. We're like a big family here and that's good and bad for a number of reasons. We all have family members that we love and some that we just tolerate because they are blood. You know it's like that drunk uncle that just acts a fool during family events but he's your uncle so you gotta deal with him.

You may have certain people you go to for advice and others you avoid like the plague because they just talk so reckless. Well you need to take the same approach here on WA.

The Blind Leading The Blind

Kyle & Carson encourage that get you get feedback from the community. And in theory that is great. Because people may spot things that you may have ignored or wouldn't think of. But then there is the flip side to that coin. It's called an opinion. And here's something that sums up my thoughts on them when it comes to your website:

Too often I see people taking the feedback of other members some of which are newbies or Old G's as law or fact. With all due respect some of the advice they provide is really just subjective or a matter of opinion. This is especially the case when it comes to design. Just because a member likes their website to look like Rainbow Bright created it doesn't mean it's the right thing to do for your site. The same goes for other elements they may advise you on such as your content or domain.

I've also seen when fellow members are just too damn nice and ain't keeping it real by providing useful and constructive criticism. Look if something is off about your site and you don't want to hear about it, definitely don't come to me. I'm one of those people that will keep it real with you. But it's not out of malice. It's because I want you to do well and improve.

So it can go either way when you ask advice here on WA.

A Grain of Salt...

Ultimately you have to take the advice of other members here with a grain of salt. I always recommend that you narrow down your pool of people for advice to a few trusted members that are more successful than you and get their opinions on certain areas of your site. Then you have to decide which advice to take and which to ignore. But for God's sake don't completely take advice of a newbie that is still wet behind the ears without consulting with some other proven and successful members.

I'm not saying that new folks here won't have some great feedback and opinions. But it never hurts to get a second or third opinion from some senior successful WA members. And even with us senior members, you want to question if the advice we provide is solid too.

Sometimes you just have to put on your big boy underwear or big girl thongs and just make a decision based on your own opinion. Then see where it leads. Because it may surprise you. Just because something worked or didn't work for one of us doesn't mean it won't for you. Well enough yapping from me.

So what do you think? Have you experienced some poor and good advice from other members? Share some examples by chiming in below. Or just let me know your thoughts in this article. I'd love to hear from you either way. Thanks for reading.

It is important to answer questions correctly. Sometimes I've been tired and been guilty of "best guessing" For that I apologize. It's a corrective learning experience.
My approach in the same way that a certified or cashiers check has more proof and credibility than a regular written check is to cite an authority site or give unquestionable respected content to eliminate uncertainty!

That's a good analogy. And I just think it's better not to answer questions that we don't really have a solid answer to rather than guessing. Someone with experience will eventually chime in. That's the benefit of this community.

Hi! MKearns indeed! But sometimes we need to give our best shot and tell the truth about it. I mean that we are not really sure. Or perhaps we need to really study and master this kind of endeavor so that we effectively be of help to all-out WA family members. I am inspired by your honesty.

Mostly good advice. But real life took over for me. Bills to pay, doctors to go to, kids to get to school, time for the family, etc. After a couple years of working on this with minimal results, other things just took over in my life. Sad but to sit and write would not bring results in my life even though I tried. I keep writing and listening to others advice just not so often anymore. With life comes change. You offer good common sense advice here.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately we can't control life and the crap it throws at us at the wrong times. All we can control is how we respond. So I hear ya.

Its life man . I got 54 years of dealing with it. Being a Marine vet doesn't make it any easier contrary to popular opinion. Lol

Man you're definitely more equipped man! I could tell just from the fact you're a Marine and your comment here. Don't undersell yourself. I'm not buying it! LOL

Eddie this is the best advice I have read in a long time. If you have the time I would love you to critique my website and tell me what I'm doing right and what I am doing wrong. You have been here from almost the beginning so I figure I anyone knows whats what it has to be Eddie. All the best to you Margaret

Hi Margaret,

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would recommend reading my cheat sheet here: It pretty much sums up my advice on how to be successful in this business. Read it and I'm sure you'll immediately see things you might want to change. I'm sure it will help.

Eddy with a y (not ie. lol)

Thanks, Eddy, I appreciate your help. Sometimes when you are getting training from every direction it does get overwhelming. I will study your cheat sheet and see how I go.

I definitely think the cheat sheet will help.

HI Magieken its great to see you here. I'm quite new I hope all is well with you.

I can say for sure that I've been quite critical of the sites I've reviewed so far.

Of course, my suggested solutions have always followed the issues that I point out but you never know, someone could be taking it personally at the other end.

I'm hoping the reviews I get back will be constructive as well, a complement is nice but won't show me the path to success~

James

I've actually received some good advice and I'm one of those people that wants it straight. I've never had an actual site of my own before so this is all new to me so no I don't want the sugar coating.I'm going premium tomorrow and I've already finished phase 1 of bootcamp and getting started. You can view my website at www dot scamskilldreams dot siterubix dot com. I plan on adding at least 1 page a day, but knowing me it's going to be alot more. My imagery I'll be working on tomorrow and I've already looked into amazon affiliate program as well. There are actually books I can promote with my web; I also found where I can cut and paste disclaimers, transfer free site to paid domain, and joined twitter, pinerest, and paltalk. Today I also messaged my facebook pals about my site and I really want a straight forward criticism on my work thus far. I want to thank you in advance for any advice you have for me and I look forward to hearing from you!

Oh yeah, you're definitely right about that! I always do my research and find other sources after the fact. WA is just one big forum, (support for the training and hosting platform,) and members on forums are often wrong. I'm not saying they're always wrong, but you should definitely do your research!

Indeed Noelle!

I knew I followed you for a reason Eddy with a Y.

You have confirmed so much for me in this post. I respect anyone who is genuine and being real. I guess you have nothing to prove and you know this trade like the back of your hand which makes you a worthy teacher. I may Pm you for some Real feedback, but first I must go grab some big boys pants.

:)

Lol. I'm glad you like my real style. It's the only way I know how to be.

Nice post Eddy! There are differing opinions on the dashboard and chat. Some are helpful while others are still learning themselves. I see many people in the WA community with Blog posts but no websites posted (like you). Are you just promoting WA (as an affiliate) or have websites that you promote elsewhere (and choose not to display them on your profile)?

Thanks. I'm not sure what you're talking about. My profile does lists my websites: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/eddysalomon
www.WorkAtHomeNoScams.com

My fault. I am looking at the post here and not on your actual profile. I am going to your profile now. Sorry about that!

No worries

I really love this post and it's much needed. There is a lot of bad advice on WA, and people trying to help who don't know their stuff. There are also those who are too nice...

In site feedback, I don't want to hear "very nice site, good job, I like your colors and design, woo!" I want real helpful advice. I guess maybe too many greenhorns use that platform lol

I hear ya. There are definitely alot of experienced people like myself using WA. But I think many of us are working on our business and may not be as involved here as we can. So there is that. But we're all a private message away. Furthermore all premium members have access to Kyle and Carson. So it's just a matter of people taking full advantage of all that is offered here on WA.

Yeah, after a year and a half here I think I've gotten to where I can tell the difference between someone I should listen to and someone I shouldn't. You're one of the ones I look up to. ;)

Thanks.

Hey Eddy, (with a Y)
I'm one of those newbies you allude to in your blog. I agree with you completely that we should not be giving anyone advise at this stage in our training. I do believe however that a little bit of positive reinforcement for the purpose of motivation is a good thing whether it's from a newbie, like myself, or an old G. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I am willing to learn from my mistakes.

I look forward to following you and other G's here at WA in an attempt to gain the necessary knowledge in order to advance toward my goal of having a financially secure future while helping others along the way.

Keep up the excellent work you do here.

Continued best wishes on your success,

“Get-err-Done”
Bill

Hey William,

I agree we can all use encouragement and WA is definitely about that. But we also need constructive criticism from others that may have more success or experience to help us grow. It's all about a healthy balance.
