Five Thousand Dollars A Month - For Real! Keyword Research Done!

Howdy Folks and welcome where and whenever you are!
Sorry it's been a while since I last posted as life has a way of chucking stuff in your path that has to be dealt with but I'm back and on a happy note.

Keyword research is done! (For now)

I decided that starting at the beginning wasn't the way to go for my Customer Avatar, Jim. We had discovered that Jim was already an amateur astronomer and so the basics wouldn't really interest him.

So, I decided that I'd go for model comparisons. I had noticed during the keyword research that there always seemed to be "model a vs model b" type searches. So I searched for "personal telescopes in usa" and I took every model that the top 10 sites mentioned and put them onto page 6 of the spreadsheet

Then on page 7 of the sheet, I took each model mentioned on page 6 and did an incognito search on Google for that model number and the letter v, sometimes vs and noted every comparison on Page 7.

Now, there are almost duplicates where Model a is against model d and then when model d is searched, the comparison with model a comes back - so I need to be aware of that.

OK, so I have around 60 'keywords' I can now write posts for - however, I need to hunt for affiliate programs for them before I do much else.

It does seem that there are telescope stockists out there but they just don't seem to have affiliate programs associated with them - the main one seems to be Amazon. Amazon are offering a 4% commission on these 'scopes and with the average cost seeming to be around $500 equals a commission payment of around $20 - obviously and hopefully they will spend more than that - in fact, we know from our Customer Avatar research that the average spend will be around $800 this year so we could be averaging $28 bucks per buyer in commission if they buy through my Amazon link.

OK, let's bang some numbers together.

Our customer research says that 50% will be buying some astronomy-based equipment this year. According to Jaaxy the keyword 'telescopes' is searched for around 80,000 a month - the keywords around the buying of telescopes is approximately 15000 searches a month (based on the info returned by Jaaxy)

So, let's say I'm super-successful and every search lands on my pages and 50% buy - so that's 7500 buyers on my website a month (50% of 15000) and each of them buys $800 worth of purchases.

7500 x $28 = $210,000 per month in commissions from Amazon - probably not

Let's say I have a conversion rate of 1% (the industry 'norm')

1% of 7500 = 75, 75 x $28 = $2100 in commission - around half of what I'm looking for.

I may have to expand my comparisons to hit my intended target but...

At least I have a starting point.

So, I will be setting up Amazon accounts in America, Canada, Australia, UK and South Africa in order to reach the most buyers..

OK - so, plan for this week.

1. Set up the siterubix site for seo and analytics and GSC

2. Write 20 of the best posts possible for my keywords - really make them the go to resource.

3. Apply to become an Amazon Associate

4. Once accepted, set up geo-targeting for the 4 other countries (and be prepared to set up more, depending on where my visitors come from)

It's coming together.

As I'll be quite busy I'll update y'all on next Sunday.

Thanks for walking us through the info. It’s really exciting, Is it difficult to set up Amazon in other countries?

To be honest Jim, I have absolutely no idea - I've never been an Amazon Associate before so it will be interesting and, no doubt, frustrating to find out!

It is quite easy to join the English speaking amazon sites (USA, UK, Canada, Australia) - a little more complicated for the Italian, German, French, Spanish Amazons but its only a form for each localization that is required. Personally, haven't bothered with those yet, because my target audience is English, but over time they are probably worth doing. But your site analytics will probably determine that when you see where you traffic is coming from.
I don't think South Africa has Amazon.

Thanks for the help.

You're right Michael - S.A. doesn't have Amazon e-commerce but Amazon does operate its cloud services there and has been 'in-country' since 2004

Very thorough analysis, Dom! It IS coming together, my friend!

Jeff

I agree Jeff and now it's time to put it all to use

Best success to you in this endeavor, Dom!

Jeff

I hope you have a great week Dom.
Looking forward to next weeks update.
Cheers
Richard

It looks to be a busy one that's for sure Richard!

Hey Dom, good luck with that, sounds like you have a full agenda ahead of you, Id like to hear about your progress. Success motivates, even it's yours not mine, I wish you much success!!!

More to come on Sunday, Roger and thank you for your motivation

Well Done DV you've covered a lot of ground, could say been "microscopic about telescopics",. A little play on words I know but it sets a good example for us to follow when researching key words. Thanks, look forward to your update,
Terry

Oh wow! What a tag line for the website! Thank you Terry!
