My A.D.D and Going Through Lessons

I have never officially been diagnosed with A.D.D. (but my wife swears I have it).

I know that my brain can get easily distracted. This has an impact on me and how I approach a lesson.

I am writing this mainly to myself but I wonder if you find yourself doing the same thing.
I hear in one lesson about keywords. So instead of staying in the lesson I find that I go off on a tangent and start trying to learn all about keywords.

Or perhaps someone posts a new education (something about YEOST) for instance. I don't even know what it is but I want to go and do this education and really don't even know what it is that I am installing. So many different things can distract me.

I started here doing the boot camp and I am still just in the second course. I find that I want to know all there is about Word Press. I find that I want to know all there is about SEO. But I also find that I am not finishing the lessons. So here is my advice to myself and if it can help anyone else then all the better.

1. Stick to the lessons! Go through the lessons in order and try not to get sidetracked because you want to know all about what different plugins there are. Unless you are really stuck on something you don't understand in the lesson then keep marching on.

2. Don't try to read every blog and training that comes out - so many emails come in that I find that I am reading blogs more than I am working on the lessons and building my site. Once you have a better understanding of your site and vision for your site then come back and do searches for different learnings. They will probably make more sense at that time.

3. Don't worry so much about rank at this time! It is really cool to see yourself rising in the ranks but then I read success stories by members here who are making money and are ranked way lower than myself. Until you have your business up and running FOCUS ON THE LESSONS!

I can go on and on with this list (as my brain wanders to other topics as well).

So if you are like myself and find you get easily distracted think first about where your business is. Get the overall framework working and then expand your knowledge further. You will probably find in the later lessons information that you were too impatient to wait for. I know I did!

I was on a search for anything YEOST, and the title of your post caught my attention...as a fellow ADDer, I just had to read this article. It's amazing how focused we can get on the wrong things. I, too, did the same thing while going through the affiliate bootcamp training. I did find a solution though, wear headphones to block the noise, and staying on task is much easier...grin

Great points, made here, too. I can confirm that keeping things simple, will help keep you on course...

Lol. Story of my life ;) been diagnosed... aand i love it. Sticking with the lessons is great for some. But i do find I have been able to grow fairly fast as a result of bouncing around.

Bouncing around also give you a better understanding of the bigger picture.

All depends on your personality tho... and to what limit you can reach before you bring your attention back and fonally get around to applying it all in a post

Long story short... i may have lost the girst leg of the race, but I am killing it in the second leg as a result of a deeper understanding...

Here is too bouncing around... Cheers

I'm with you Marc! Sometimes I bounce around so much I can only listen to the radio while it is on scan!

It would benefit me better if I had more time but that is the killer for me.
I have not been having to the time I thought I would and going off on my different explorations have delayed me from going through the course.

I look forward to bouncing over to that link! ;-)

It is important to stick to the lessons as it is easy to miss something that could impact on your progress

I agree Katie! That is my plan ( if I can stick to it ).

I totally understand about focusing on lessons. I also get distracted with multiple emails and blogs, etc. It can be challenging, but I am continuing onward and upward!

Great Diane! As long as are moving forward and can get back on track then things will work out! :-)

Focus can be difficult. I find that my enthusiasm can get in the way sometimes and I have to remind myself that this is not a race. Slow and steady is better.

That is the truth Sofia! I try to swallow the whole elephant at once! Thanks for sharing!

Be kind to yourself and take a break when needed :)

Thanks Jude! I am my own worst critic and beat myself up a lot. I have to keep my expectations grounded.

I hope all is going well! You are still in our prayers! :-)

Thanks for the kind words :)

You are most welcome! :-)

That is a great post and it is all 100% the way things happen /
Sometimes I lay in bed and I just cannot seem to get all the questions out of my head as it is like we are are part of WA!!!

Thanks Paul and that is a great way to put it! Sometimes my brain is running from here to there that I forget what I originally started!
