How to Practice Copywriting Every Day
So, as with learning any new skill, the secret is to practice as often as you can.
Copywriting is no different, but that doesn't mean you have to be writing a post for your website to ramp up your skills.
Examples of copywriting are all around you, and you see them continuously throughout your day.
Here are some ways in which you can spend a few minutes every day practicing your writing.
As you are out and about, you will see billboards, adverts on buses, product packaging, and even little message boards outside a coffee shop.
You may not have thought about this before, but they are all forms of copywriting.
They are trying to gently persuade you to do something or buy the product.
If something particularly catches your eye, stop and study it for a minute.
Take a photo and look at it later, if need be.
What is it about the wording that caught your attention?
Are you the intended target audience?
Are you likely to take the action it suggests?
And if not, why not?
How has it failed to persuade you?
What is it missing?
How could you write it better?
The copywriters have exactly the same end goal as you do when writing a product review.
They want you to buy something, and if that billboard or product packaging doesn't persuade you, then they haven't achieved their goal.
By studying examples of copywriting on a daily basis, you will gradually improve your own skills.

This is one of the skills that they teach in advertising - have a swap file that you can draw on for ideas.
You see something that catches your attention - so you keep it to draw inspiration from later.
I like the idea of keeping things that you did not like and or you think you can improve upon.

Fantastic advice as always Diane.
What is the old saying? Oh yea... "practice makes perfect"!
Although I believe that achieving perfection is never going to happen, practicing whatever skills in life will certainly improve them over time!
An interesting sign you have included here though. Not a coffee drinker myself, but if coffee was replaced with say "JD and coke", would that entice you to enter the establishment out of curiosity to try one or not??
And there I was, thinking you were a JD and coke fan for some reason.. many apologies Diane!
I wholeheartedly agree that when partaking in certain beverages "on the rocks" is the way to go!
Except for gin.. then for me ice and a slice must be accompanied by a bit of tonic water!!
Copy writing is what I do daily in my writing. I play around with the word order. I use several different writing tool softwares to help. I use headline or ideas generators. Those tools I use are beneficial for me to develop my copywriting skills. You are correct, practicing is worth it. I learned its useful to use humor in the headlines without becoming too salesy.
Hi Diane,
This is a great idea. Very few of the ads I notice everyday persuade me to to take action. Most seem like hype.
The ones I’m drawn to are not the in your face, shouting ads. I prefer ads that are sincere, direct and clear. Usually the low key ones.
I wonder why so many are the ones I don’t like. Does this mean that ads that appear as hype really work? Otherwise why are there so many of them?
Thanks.
Edwin
It's a fascinating question Edwin. I do think that these types of hyped up ads appeal to the younger generation, and I guess they must work or they wouldn't keep doing them. Us older folk certainly prefer the more low-key honest types.

I would have "loved" this one if the option was there!
Good examples, short and to the point. I Love these kinds of teachings.🥰
Btw, I would go into a coffee shop that had the nerve to put out a sign like that. 🤣😂
Peace,
Josette
