If you have received notices for comments on your email that means they really submitted comments. Then you follow the advice of Mike that you contact Site Support.
oh yes, they are genuine problems that people have come across. Different people reporting the same thing. I am following up with site support!

I would start my checking Settings > Discussion to see if there are any issues. Then I'd go to your site and submit a comment to see if they are submitted correctly. Here is how I have mine set. Hope you're able to correct it without too much trouble! :-)

I had the exact same problem. It went on for ages. Site support told me to delete the theme I was using and then up load it again.
I have done this. Nothing was lost.
It has been three days since I did this and as far as I know it is still okay. However it is early days.

Thank you for the suggestion Karen. How do you do that - delete the theme and reinstall without losing the content?
Yes I temporarily swapped to another theme. Completely deleted my theme then re loaded it. Then I swapped back. All my settings, widgets etc were intact.
Will be trying it out today and wait for someone to report a blank page again. Still bewildered as to how some comments go through and some don't :(

Let me know if it works for you. It was done on site supports advice.
