Members Are Leaving Comments

I've written 20 posts on my WA blog over the last three months since joining WA. Just recently I've started getting into the habit of going to the Dashboard and reading the top ten posts of the week, if I saw something that resonated with me I would go to the members profile and read past posts and maybe start following, I very rarely left any comments. In the beginning I had been very slow and selective about following people, being new I wanted to get a feel for the community and not just start following people for no good reason. I didn't really get the whole community thing, plus it's time-consuming to read everyone s past posts, especially if your like me and you see some training you can use.

I've been side tracked numerous times by going to my website after reading a post that gives me some info that I think will help me. Like a widget for backing up your site, or how to link a training video to a post. Sometimes it's overwhelming, how much info and training is out there, and before you know it an hour or two has gone bye and you never did what you intended to do.

I had been so busy with building my website, doing my boot camp training, (on level five) and thinking up what I hope is good content, both for my WA posts and my website posts, that I forgot one thing. Going back through my posts and replying to the comments!

It was actually surprising that I even had any comments. I honestly didn't think anyone was reading my posts. It was posting initially, to work on my writing skills and learn how to put my thoughts into words, in a way that made sense and was easy to read and understand. I had not really written any essays for years and felt like the WA platform was a perfect vehicle to practice.

I feel like an idiot, but in my hurry to write meaningful content I neglected to go back to see if anyone had commented. I had even received e-mails telling me someone had commented on a post of mine, and still didn't remember to go back and acknowledge them.

So today, I went back through every post I've written, and answered every comment. I also decided to follow anyone that left me a comment. When I follow someone I usually read all their prior posts and will even leave comments, even if the post was written months ago.

Never having belonged to a community like WA before, I didn't know what to expect. Slowly I've come to realize that being a member of a community like WA, entails certain responsibilities.

  1. Don't use WA to promote your products
  2. Always offer positive and constructive feedback
  3. Reply to comments in a timely manner
  4. It's not a social club
  5. Utilize the synergy of the group to learn your craft.

As always I learn from my mistakes, but as long as I keep a positive attitude and remember that I'm not in a race I should be fine. Thanks to all of you for your understanding and patience.

As always, thanks for visiting, Dave.

Nice article, I've learned so much just by connecting with others here @ WA.....some people see it as a waste of time and don't get me wrong, you do need to set aside a specific time frame in your schedule or you'll wind up wasting your whole day.
Here's to success in 2019!

Hi Dave,

I think for anyone of our generation the idea of community needs some adjusting as we both have found out. I hope however that like me as you start to relax into how this WA community works and benefits to your advantage, and you realise what a positive experience it truly is.

Great post, Dave, and it's so nice to connect with you, my new friend! In writing posts and conversing with others here, I feel a sense of belonging to a real live eFamily! It's wonderful reading everyone's comments and helping others while giving input. I'm glad you're more conscientious now. I wish you all the best in your steps toward success!

Erin :)!

Sorry it took me so long. Dave

Hi Dave
Great post, thank you. The WA Community has been an important part of my journey, I find that following people, reading blogs, questions, live chat etc., leaving and reading other comments has contributed enormously to my growth. I also try to contribute where I can - that is limited because I am only "3 months old" - but I have 3 months more experience than newbies joining now.
I appreciate the points that you have left, no. 2 and 5. resonate with me in particular.
Your focus on training and building your site will be what gets your business up and running - let's face it, that is the top reason we are all here. Kudos to you for your focus on that!
Blessings
Louise

Thanks Louise, i’m Glad you get something out of my posts I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Everyone has a learning curve here Dave. Don't feel bad! You will do fine. Thanks for the reply.
