UK Based & A Member Of The AA?. Read This

This post is for the benefit of UK members of Wealthy Affiliate, who, have cars and are with the AA & ... Have Membership cover about to expire

We were in the same boat, with our AA membership, which is due to expire in around 3 weeks after being with them for 1 year and it has to be said, happy with the service we had experienced in that time, or at least the time/s we had used them

As with the AA, they tend to hike their prices up, well back in my day, yeearrss ago when I first started driving, the membership price doubled... Just like that!

We received our renewal, just this last week and true to form, the membership fee, had doubled, but it was still a good price over the year

However, at the same time, we had also received a quote from the RAC for cover, which was the same or just slightly better than the AA and with more perceived benefits... So it was

Enticing to say the least!! ~ My wife is always on the lookout for a bargain : )

So...

She rang the AA up, to say, that the cover was, in her eyes, slightly more expensive than she was expecting and was thinking of leaving them

But

on speaking to the rep on the phone and following lots of, I see, yes that sounds good, well given that...

We ended up with the

Following cover...

Exactly the same cover as we had last year, but with a slight price increase & by slight I mean £4 a month to cover relay, which made our cover, almost the same as it was last the previous year

So the moral of this post is this... & My wifes friend Martin, is a big advocate this, haggle!! & don't accept what they are saying

Overall and in conclusion, the AA work exactly the same way as SKY do, in that if you are thinking of leaving, you end up with great discounts for a further year, all for the sake of a 2 ( or in my wifes case, 5 minute phone call, but it was worth it for the fist pump she gave at the end, which is always a sign she has a good deal!!)

So, if you are UK based and a member of the AA, try this when your renewal is due

Well done Dave. The traditional problem with the British and in particular the English is that we think being loyal to a company benefits us and we are thought of as being cherished and loved customers.
The truth is we are being screwed from one end of the shop to the other.
My policy now is to switch suppliers whenever I can, particularly with car and home insurance.
Customers are just numbers these days so take advantage of what the internet offers is.

I used to get Sirius radio, and it kept going up then I would get a discount, and I would stay. Last time since I am not on the road as much decided to cancel. Every other week I get mail wanting me back. LOL! it's now almost 80% off annually. They are desperate.. Ha Ha! Still not going to though.. We have always threatened to leave the cable and even insurance, yet we always get a discount to keep us. Good customer service! Percentage wise they can afford to because it is a small amount who ask..

I'm with direct line, linea directa, (thats a nice easy translation for you!), here in Spain. My insurance renewal last week was 380 euros I ended up paying 302, so over 20% off.

So the same throughout europe it would seem

Just a quick question if you don't mind. Do you know of any transport companies. To ship my car out to Spain save me driving all that way. I want to get it to Malaga at least from London UK.

I dont I'm afraid. I'm in Gran Canaria and I did look at driving as second hand cars here are expensive but with the 2 day ferry journey from the mainland and the import and registration costs it just wasn't worth it.

Not sure what you plans are but certainly for here in Gran Canaria there was no point me bringing my car as for resale nobody wants right hand drive and as I say the import and registration combined with all of the fuel and ferry costs just wern't worthwhile.

I'm guessing its the same on the mainland so do check the numbers if you are staying more than 6 months. If you have any questions about that give me a shout as I think I still have the numbers somewhere

Are you staying more than 6 months though Debs as I think that is the limit you have before you have to re register and thats when it starts to become expensive.

Worth checking it out if your leaving the car there longer just in case

Absolutely. Never take the renewal as gospel. If it is a big increase we always ring up and ask where there loyalty is to their customers. We tell them we are disappointed with the increase and that we are left with no alternative but to go elsewhere.

It has worked about 90% of the time!

Absolutely right Dave. I think ours is due in July and every year we get a letter reminding us that our membership is due for renewal. Every year the price is way up and every year my wife phones up and they reduce it.....this has been going on for about 15 years. Well worth the cost of a phone call. Think you might have saved UK WA members a few quid, nice one.

Well done Dave I hate the price hikes they add on. I also do the same thing. They hate loosing customers.

A big high five to your wife and friend. That phone call Is always worth making.

I always check out Martin Lewis for savings too. He is good at quite a lot of stuff on the saving side. The UK is just getting so expensive nowadays.
