Hello to everyone at Wealthy Affiliate.

First off this is not a pity party and not an excuse fest. I just wanted to point out my day and everything I do. Then I am trying to find time to work online. Im just having some trouble figuring some stuff here.

This by no means is me quitting but exactly opposite. I know there are a lot of good people here and just looking for some tidbits of advice from people who want to share some time related secrets.

Ok here goes.

First off you should know we are raising our 6 year old grandson and my wife is a big help so when I tell you my story and my time line I am noot alone but just looking for more time to do the things here.

  • 5:15 get up, shower, get lunch made and get ready for work
  • 6:30 head to work
  • 7:00 start my work day which includes 2 15 minute lunch breaks and a half hour lunch
  • 5:00 pm get off work
  • 5:30 pm get home and get supper going
  • 6:30 Have supper, clean kitchen
  • 7:30 do homework and spend some time with grandson
  • 8:30 shower grandson
  • 9:00 tuck grandson in.
  • 9:15 turn computer on and most days realize I am exhausted and get little done.

So in a nutshell that is basically my day. Before you ask where my wife is, she works most evenings. She has laundry done, house is always clean and so forth. She gets the little guy off to school so yes she does work as hard as I do.

As for weekends, well at work we are so busy that I work at least 8 hours a day on weekends as well. One other issue is where I work.

I have a great job working for the Federal Government in Canada. It comes with a great pension and some other great benefits. However I am on a computer 100% of my working hours. Im getting the feeling I am just trying to avoid the computer when I get home.

Anyways if any of you great people here at Wealthy Affiliate have some suggestions for me to help me with some time issues I am here to listen.

Thanks In Advance

Dale

By the sounds of it Dale, you either work for Revenue Canada or in Finance in some department, given the time of year. Tax time and the beginning of the fiscal year. I understand the desire to avoid the computer when you get home. I was the same with the telephone. What I would suggest, and I say this to my students who also have busy lives, try and find 30 minutes or an hour out of each day to do one thing.
In your case you have two-15 minute breaks and 30 minute lunch. Use some of that time to go through a course or Live Chat, or something at Wealthy Affiliate. You are already on the computer. Just a thought.

It is a good thought. You are close as to where I work . Just not going to say where for privacy concerns. However yes I have thought of using my lunch breaks. Thank you for the advice.

Not a problem Dale, I once worked in the Federal Governent and understand the privacy issue. Take care.

I see you are good partners in life as husband and wife. It's good to continue your work in your Government and wait for your retirement.
Your website is like a land that appreciates in time. .

Good luck.

Hi Dale
Your post in itself is a blessing to many, and great encouragement too.I doubt many people here have such busy schedules and we still complain.Being this busy , you say you don't give up. Great attitude.
You sure can't stay up late because of early mornings, but where I can see an hour or a little less you can give to the training and doing your site is here.
What if after supper you go to your computer and take your grandson with you and tell him you are busy building your future empire and that your grandson can get preparing for that too doing some stuff which will develop him- quiet drawing, maybe learning letters, maybe some lego- just suggestions. Don't know what he is into.
God bless!:)
Vera

Nope, the one thing I wont do is give up. Even if I can only write one post a week I will make this work eventually.

Thank you

Sounds like a busy schedule. You might want to force a 15 minute brisk walk in when you get home. That small break and exercise could be just the thing to give you a little more energy. - Shirley

Great advice. Get the brain refreshed. At least the weather is nice enough to walk now.

Good on you for raising your grandson. Hope it works out

Had him since he was one. Going to turn 7 next month. He really is a blessing.

good on you. Families come in all shapes and sizes!!

My goodness. You don't have much wiggle room in there! I admire how both you and your wife are working and taking care of your grandson too.
Your employment is seven days a week. Whew.
Do you think you could write 20 minutes before bedtime 5 times a week? Or listen to a training video?
That doesn't sound like much but sometimes you can get on a roll.
Something that really helps me is UV blocker glasses I wear when working at the computer.
My eyes don't get as tired.
I'm amazed you do so much.
I hope that's a little help.

It does help because every little piece of advice helps. With enough advice I will get things figured out because one thing I know for sure is I will not give up.

My day reads a lot like yours except the kid is mine , we also have a spoiled cat and a brand new rescue puppy who is so needy I can’t even begin to explain . I start my day at 5 am and end it around 11( but most of the House is down by 10 so that hour is me time. I can only say what I decided ... I know I can’t work in that last hour , my brain is too fried but I can research keywords or watch a couple lessons . My Saturdays are busy days too ... but I carved out 2 hours there . I do my articles as a rough draft in the morning by getting up 45 minutes earlier (usually by the end of the day before I know what I am going to be writing ) I print them and read them again hours later on lunch and will edit or switch things ... if I can I will try for the final write that night but if not than well I start the morning with the rewrite , push the next article a day and call it the best I can do . We can only do what we can do.... if it’s a hour carved throughout the day than that’s what is . I hope I can clear a bit more time on Saturday but for now it is what it is. Sunday’s I’m loath to touch they have been and will always be family time for me . It’s the only day I actually get to see my husband for longer than 2 minutes, it’s a day I can play a game with my daughter , teach the puppy a new trick , visit a new park , watch a movie together etc etc etc ...... oh and sleep , one must have sleep sometimes lol

Thank you. You have given me just a bit more hope. You are right, can only do what we can do.

At least you have the steps written down. Now, maybe you can adjust. Does your wife help with the online business? Maybe she can help you on Sundays and you two can knock out some meal preps. This way, you can wake up at 4:30 am and get some work in on WA. then you get ready for work and you literally open fridge, grab lunch and go! Meal preps can also help you eat healthier if that is something you are trying to do so you kill two problems with 1 stone.

good Luck with everything Dale. You got this!!!

Eating healthier is always important considering I am diabetic. Thanks for the tips.

Yes! I forgot about meal Preps and slow cooker meals . The days I have the meals done or a slow cooker meal going are the days I get the most done ... truly amazing how just lessening that one thing can impact the rest of the evening . Please Prep some meals and look for new slow cooker meals you would like .... it will impact your life in a positive way .

thank you so much. thats great advice

Listen to me very closely( A la Eric Thomas) this where you gonna have to push your comfort zone, comfort zone = income zone , in any en devour that you take do it with all your focus and one thing i have learn from the hard knocks university is that your mind is your #1 enemy , it will set you limitations and lies , it will create doubt and within the mind will start asking how are you gonna do that, Solution: Meditation will help you understand more your self and even push you're self to a higher standard, but wanna know why? Cause meditation goals its to watch and monitor what your mind is saying and emotions and do not let it control you instead your true self bring the awareness , Its not easy to do but it was brought me to be more productive in my life like never before , i put my heart on this post :).

Thank you, those are very strong words to think about.

Where are you in the lessons and with your website? Also, are you free or premium? Is your wife interested in your online usiness? Your answers to these questions will have a bearing on what advice we can give.
Grant

I meant business, not usiness.

Hi Grant. Yes i am premium and a yearly member at that. Certification I am on course 5, lesson 8. Bootcamp I am some ways in but started over.
.
My wife is very supportive of me working online. Never a negative word from her.

I have 2 websites, well 3 but really focusing on 2. My WA site and one other niche site.

WA site has 34 posts and niche site has 33 posts. This is in about a year or so.

Dale

If you were free my advice would be to back off some, but since you are premium, I would say to focus on only one website for now and let the other 2 wait for a while. Keep supporting your family first and foremost.

What I was wondering was would your wife want to help you with writing posts, etc with your site. Maybe a collaborative effort would make progress easier.

Just don’t give up. Small progress is still progress.
I hear you about being on the computer all day. Burnout is real.
Look for some balance. Do what you can and don’t feel guilty about it.
Maybe you need some time off to recharge?
Grant
