I Thought It Would NEVER Happen!

Last Update: November 27, 2018

This morning I spent time planning how I could focus my efforts on monetizing my site. It was a morning of 'thinking' rather than 'doing'.

I've spent a lot of time since starting with WA 'doing' i.e., writing content. But not many of the posts are affiliate posts as I've concentrated mostly on informative articles.

Later today, on a whim, I checked my Amazon account and discovered I've earned my first whopping great $1.44 from all the efforts of the last 7 months.......Woohoo!

Some would argue, it's not a great return on investment for all of the time, effort, thought and work that has been expended, and they'de be dead right. However, I don't see it like that. I see it simply as the beginning of more to come. The first signal that this thing is possible, that it CAN work. The signal I've been waiting for.

I mean let's face it, we all take a bit of a leap of faith when we start on this journey. All of us WA'ers following the training step by step, hoping we've understood it all, then putting the training to work.

Hours spent hunched over our keyboards posting into the wide blue yonder then crossing our fingers that what we publish resonates with people out there..... wherever they are.

Although I have 3 posts on Google page 1 my organic traffic is still almost nonexistent and the earnings did not come from any of those posts.

What is encouraging is that the money earned came from a post I wrote only a couple of days ago, a list post, which I posted on Pinterest and FB.

It shows that while waiting for Google to improve your rankings and send you organic traffic, it is possible to start earning income from other traffic channels too.

Anyway, I wanted to share my HUGE $1.44 success with you guys. I'm happy to see that the training works. Off to get busy with writing more monetization posts....

Congratulations to you Ann, I understand how you feel and this is a great starting point, good things ahead! I remember when I first made a commission back in 2007, my website had only just gone live and within the first day I made my first commission, many more have followed since and I'm sure they will for you.

Enjoy your day.

Hi Ann,

The amount of the sale is not as important that the fact it happened, I can still remember my first sale back in 2004. It stood for confirming what I was doing works, after 20 months of pouring money into my website it was finally going to show it was all worth it.

My first sale for my new websites that I created here was only 1.28 from Amazon, so you got me beat on that one!

I hope you get to see many more sales in the future from were that one came from. Just remember any sale is better than no sale and those 1.44 sales can add up and fill your wallet. :-)

Keep doing what you are doing because it has just started so hold on and enjoy the ride,

Calvin

This post is fantastic, Ann! It's all about BABY STEPS and BELIEF! The fact that $1.44 is like $144 to you is a total step in the RIGHT DIRECTION, my dear! PERFECT ATTITUDE! And, again, more proof that Pinterest DOES direct traffic conversions!

Stay with it just as you are and things will bloom into shape! KUDOS!

Erin :)!

How wonderful, congratulations! I've done the same as you and have focused on adding content to my site without any affiliate links so far. I'm just ready to start adding those this week, and I, too, will be thrilled with the first sale, no matter how small. Earnings have to start somewhere, and there's nowhere to go but UP! May you enjoy continued and growing success, Ann.
Best Wishes,
Cheri

Its all about the baby steps. I am a true believer in Wealthy Affiliate. I know for my yearly premium they have provided me with the best tools, training and so much more. Now what I do with all that is on me.

That first dollar is always the best feeling. A big congrats goes out to you. Cant wait to hear your next success story.

Congrats on your first dollar!!

I look at WA as a training vehicle. The money I spend to be a premium member actually goes as a business expense. I put it under education and training.

The thing is that you could break it out under many expense categories. Hosting, Education, Support. But it is an expense. If you treat this as a business (which it is) you can actually write it off and save on your taxes at the end of the year.

Most businesses don't make any money the first few years and the IRS understands this. So if you are showing a loss for a few years that can help to reduce your taxes.

I always set up my business as an S-Corp. That way the corporation doesn't pay taxes it is passed to you as the owner of the company. So you will either make money or lose money. At first it will reduce the amount of your personal taxes paid. Later as you make money expenses will reduce the amount of the actual income you make.

I'm not a qualified accountant so always seek the help of an accountant when setting up your business.

In any case Ann you are well on your way. Keep up the good work and I know you are going to succeed.

Thanks Glen I already have an offline business, so I’m familiar with allocating expenses for biz purposes, but thanks for the suggestions.

Yippee!! The first if many sales indeed! I had to wait 10 months for my first sale. At that point, i’m sure most people would have given up.

Ann,

Congrats. From small acorns great oaks grow.
Am also glad that you chose to share as a few weeks back I failed to do so when my first money landed, although it wasn't as substantial as your effort. It was just 29p but I do regret not sharing it at the time.
