Write For Yourself
It is best if we write what we like to write...
We'll be happier in what we're doing, and our passion will be evident to our readers...
"Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self."
-Cyril Connolly (1903-1974)
(I didn't know who this was, so I researched a bit, and found out that he was an English writer and literary critic; editor of the literary magazine Horizon.)
I've followed Mr. Connolly's suggestion, perhaps unwittingly, simply because I like to write about what interests me.
If people like it, that's great!
I really hope you do.
If not, well, then at least I've been true to myself.
Fortunately, a lot of different things interest me, so my writing covers a lot of territory.
Write for yourself, about what interests you, and let your audience come to you.
Be happy.

I always write for myself, no, ultimately for people,I think. I mean to say that I always enjoy writing. Can't think of a topic which wouldn't inspire me- maybe something very technical which I wouldn't understand...:))
You did, but I could have written this...Thank you! It IS my way of writing since 1995! Have a great day, enjoy at WA; greetings from the Netherlands!
Very true. I'd say you are a perfect example that this formula works. You are a very passionate person. That comes through in your writing. You have developed a loyal following as result. Thanks for the advise.
