A Handshake And A Prayer
Handshakes have been in the news recently, with President Trump displaying his sometimes awkward approach to the age old convention.
Is this how the recent summit began? The Donald gets a dose of his own medicine from a shirtless Putin...
Yes, Mr. President, we know you've got a good grip, but, seriously...get a grip!
Trump wasn't the only Prez experiencing awkward handshakes, though...

I've always liked the adage that "My word and my handshake is my bond," from the days before everything had to be in writing, prepared by legal representatives.

According to Mr Google, this custom started in medieval times. The world was an unsavoury place back then, and people often concealed weapons in their hands. The handshake was a way of affirming that neither you nor the person you were greeting was carrying anything intended to harm. Over time, it evolved into a polite greeting.
When I was younger, my family and I attended a Pentecostal church. Often times, I would see something I learned was called "a hallelujah handshake." In this case, instead of a weapon, there was money concealed in the hand. We lived a very rural area and some of our visitors were very needy people. I witnessed our head usher giving one of these handshakes more than once. As a kid, I didn't think much of it, but now as an adult, I'm thinking what a nice gesture--helping someone out, but doing it with dignity and respect.

My grandpa lived by the philosophy that his handshake was his word. His handshake meant he had sealed the deal. His handshake meant a sign of respect.
I'm just wondering...how many of you placed your hand on the internet high five? I did...he-he! Yeah, I'm one of those people. LOL!
