My GA acct shows 37 "extra" pages like:

/?kw=artroomdesignz.com
/?kw=dollar.com
/?kw=enjoyyourcooking.com

When I click on them to view they all go to my hom

Did you try checking out the GA forum to see if others are having the same problem? I wonder if it had something to do with backlinks.

I will check their forums, thanks for the reminder Linlin!

Hello Corinna
I believe these are related to a search function on your site.

If someone searches within your site for a keyword, then the /?then keyword will display, due to the script function of the search tool.

This is then recorded in Analytics

Hope that helps

Paul

Hmmm Paul this is interesting. As far as I can tell I don't have a search function publicly available on my site though. If you had a minute and might be interested to take a look at my site I'd appreciate it. I guess this issue is no big deal if it's something like that I just don't want Google to somehow thing I have a bunch of missing pages or inappropriate keywords... I really appreciate your help and your response. http://focused-momentum-lifecoach.com/

Hello Corinna
You are using Lifestyle theme, which does include a search widget, even though you are not using it.

I just tried created a 404 page on your site by typing in
http://focused-momentum-lifecoach.com/paul

Then the search box appears

Then I typed in 'coaching' and got this

http://focused-momentum-lifecoach.com followed by /?s=coaching

So I think GA is giving this as a site wide URL (/?KW abbreviated to Keyword)

And no - its nothing to worry about - if you go over to webmaster tools, it will tell you if you have any errors that need looking at

Nice site by the way!

Paul

Oh my gosh you are amazing!! That stuff looked so weird and I've been feeling anxious about google lately so finding those url's was stressful. I appreciate your help so much Paul--three cheers for computer smarty-pantses!! :D (And thank you for the compliment on my site--another nice bonus for this afternoon. :) )

Smarty pants eh!! Not sure i've been called that before.

Now go enjoy you Sunday afternoon and stop fretting about the weird stuff

Well I hope you took it as a compliment! :) And thank you so much, I will. :)

Yes, I knew it was a compliment, and thank you,

Also thanks for adding me to your network - I wish you massive success with your site

Regards
Paul

I've exported and saved a copy of my site as is and now I'm ready to move onto a better/more professional theme. Anything else I need to know before I take the plunge? Thanks

I realize I am jumping in and asking a question here about an old topic, but I am currently considering some themes from Studiopress too. I was wondering if there was any way to preview how the themes will look before actually purchasing. Also, how exactly can they be installed through the WA hosting platform?

I noticed some people mention it may not have any benefit for your search engine rankings and this may be true to some extent. However, the genesis platform provides some excellent pre-built SEO options and a more attractive site with better options, speed, and functionality will naturally draw in more visitors and help encourage engagement. These factors can in fact improve your rankings.

Anyway, before I drop $100 on one of these themes, I want to make sure that it's the right theme for me, it is possible to install on WA hosting platform, and if there is any way to preview the design ith my current content.

I would also love to hear some feedback, if you did go to Studiopress, not only about how you feel about the themes and the genesis platforms, but also how easy or difficult it was to make the change the transfer your site over. Were there big formatting issues? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help answer some of these questions! All the best!

- Howie

Hey Howie, I found going to the Internet was best to get more detailed information on your theme...check it out. I found some other relevant videos on You Tube as well....if all else fails, Google it...Lol! Kim :))

Actually, the reason I was asking is because I wanted to specifically get the opinion of people who have used it in the WA community and in the WA hosting platform. Of course, I always take due diligence in finding out information online, but it is hard to read through affiliate reviews and the website and know whether you are getting an honest opinion sometimes. Also, I know a lot of people here are going through a lot of the same things, while developing their sites as I am.

I definitely found a lot of great information about the framework and the themes, but I am glad I also got some feedback from those actually using it in the WA community. It definitely helps. Thanks!

I am glad to hear that, wasn't sure how much of a response you would get since there are so many themes, that is why I suggested that. This is my first site, and I have the Catch Box Theme, so I was of no use..Lol..:))

I hear you. I am considering A Studio Press theme. They are impressive and if you have it in your budget, seem like one of the better premium options.

Well, maybe down the road...budget's tight for me. :))

Hi Corinna

I use Studiopress (genesis framework) on all of my websites. They have some really great looking theme templates and once you get your head around genesis you will be hooked. Best of all many of their themes are pre-packed with mobile responsive functions, so they will look great on mobiles. androids, ipads etc.

As long as you have backed up your site, you can generally install a new theme and worst case, you can always deactivate and revert back to your original theme.

Good luck with the upgrade of your theme.

Cheers

Colleen, thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear your thoughts on SP and am excited to choose just the right theme through them. I love the look of your VA websites and am glad you've had such a positive experience on the genesis framework. Thanks again for your comment!

A responsive theme is a good idea - one that adapts your pages to mobile and tablet easy to read form.
There is a plugin that will do this if you happen to find a theme you really like that is not responsive.

Yes Trialynn, that seems like an important function. Thanks so much for your input!

Hey Corinna,

Remember that the theme isn't going to be the major factor when ranking your websites. Sure, you want your site to look great. But what I find many times with themes is that you end up spending way more time than you wanted to learning how to get them to look the way they do in the sales page. This is time that could be spent creating more content which will is time better served.

Best Regards,
Jim

Thank you for your feedback Jim! I know the theme isn't going to do much for me in Google's eyes but I guess 1) I'm a little worried that changing to a new theme may create some chaos on my pages and I'm nervous about having to go back through what I have to correct it (I have 25 pages of keyword specific content plus 11 pages of forms and/or technical stuff) and 2) my website has had a homemade look for over 7 years and I'm feeling itchy to finally have something that looks professional ha ha!

I get what you're saying though and do want to make sure I'm putting the bulk of my energy where it is most useful. Learning the details of a new theme does seem a little intimidating, ugh!

Hey Corinna,

You have to feel good about your site so if you feel like a better theme go for it. My point was don't let that be the main focus of your time. Choose a theme that will look good and doesn't require a huge learning curve. I don't know much about StudioPress so I can't really help you on that.

The theme should not mess up your content and if it does you want to stay away from it. Having said that, make sure to back up your site - which you should be doing anyway :) - if you do decide to change themes.

Best Regards,
Jim

Points well taken Jim, thanks so much for your insight, your expertise, and your time! :)

Hi Jim,
No. I totally disagree with you. You can rank on page one and no visitor will stay on your website when he has an aesthetically clash. The first thing a visitors see is the look of your website. How the content is presented, is it a clear and structured, is the website attractive. The content is the major argument for fidelity, for authority and trust - the conditions for buying. So you see that both aspects have their role and importance.

Hey Guy,

Just as a reference, take a look at the following PR 4 website:

http://zenhabits.com

Not much to it but it ranks really well. Google won't rank a website well unless people are sticking around so they are definitely staying on that website.

Best Regards,
Jim
