Hi all, I'm finally truly completely ready, really, to push the button on my first WP website. I need help on picking a template, there are so many and really, I can't walk down
Thank you all. I pushed forward after all your advice. It's so true that sometimes we over think, just keep learning and the rest with come :)
You can have a look at sites you like and check to see of they are using a Wordpress theme with this tool http://whatwpthemeisthat.com/
You'll probably end up trying quite a few, as Kat says it's easy to change a theme. Also, some themes are easier to work with than others and another reason why people change them.
Customizer seems to be a popular one and feedback is that it's easy to work with. https://wordpress.org/themes/customizr/
Good luck!
Hello. Themes do have titles and descriptions. And so, you can read before you click. Sometimes I go to google and type in keywords along with the word "free" - i.e. "free wordpress themes for photos" ....or maybe a magazine style will fit you. Anway, Google will show you a lot of themes for you to browse. Also, keep in mind that you always change the theme after you click.
Can anyone help with picking a wp template?

Hi guys, I'll admit it. I'm stuck at the 'niche'. Before when I had two Internet stores, I was a crafter and reseller surrounded around a theme. Read my profile if it helps. T
If you have time, you should watch this video. I have only seen parts of it, but need to watch the entire thing. Regardless, you would have what is called and "Evergreen Niche" if you did a place. That is a very good thing! Thus the reason I kept my Niche so broad and mine is an evergreen also.

David, thank you so much for this video. I'm half way through the it and yes , once again, a snowy weekend is forecasted so I will finish it and apply the lessons. There is so much great info here to learn and you and everyone here at WA keep me on track. Thank you!
You're welcome! That is what is so great about being here! If you want to meet in person and hash out ideas, let me know! I will help anyway I can.. I am still pretty new here, but have learned a lot already! I hope all success for you!
Thank you all so much for your help! I found it, a place I'm an expert at, a place I'm passionate about and got married there and where 2 million people visit a year from all over the world:) WA rocks!
Great! You see, you already found somebody here for your niche: I am a traveler, so I am very curious to see your site about a place :-)
Sure! I have several blogs on other platforms (that I am not really using at the moment, because I will import them to the sites that I am going to make here and I built them by knowing basically nothing about online marketing, SEO and all) - the point is that one of my most popular blogs is about one city, my photos and other views, rants and articles about it. I haven't even touched it for more than 2 years, but my main website is still getting visitors from there!
And there are many blogs like Daily ........ Photo, about one place only each - I have seen even SMALL villages that one would think totally boring.
So if there is a place that you LOVE and KNOW A LOT ABOUT, sure you can make a great website around it.
A bit like David-Salt said it could be way too broad. It really depends on
on what you mean by "A Place".
Are we talking, a country, a city, a town, a camp?.
The only success I have seen someone have in this area is when they have gotten involved with local marketing where you review and promote local businesses.(Plumbers, restaurants, construction etc.) However, you then have to negotiate a lot with individuals regarding commissions or just offer advertising space.
Can be a pain in the *&!@. Good for mobile app development though which is a different business model altogether?
If you are thinking about a vacation destination then you will have to niche it down as David said, Scuba diving in Hawaii or scuba diving for seniors in Hawaii etc which would be more targeted and might potentially address a perceived problem.

Hi :) Yes, your niche can be a place as I've seen several other websites on places to visit in specific locations etc. There's money to be made in any niche. Just ensure you have more than enough articles you can write within your niche. Neil
As Kyle would say a niche is just somewhere people go to get morewinformation about a problem and buy stuff
A niche is actually the anything you want to create you own community or audience for you to view. Yo create this audience from your very own ideas which can be a place or a thing whatever you love to talk and write about

The niche is not so much the "thing" but is more the audience interested in that "thing". If there are people interested in a place, I see no reason that it couldn't be a niche.
Yes it can, however, you might want to consider if that is too Broad... My niche is too broad and I have had a difficult time just getting the core of my site done. I however don't mind because I know it is a very long term project for me. You may want to consider making your Niche something like Scuba Diving in Hawaii instead of just Hawaii.
