The Challenge of Building Up A Personal Blog
I got stuck for a day deciding what should be the focus of my personal blog. I was confused, whether to make a "diary like" blog, or like any other blog we have here "having a niche".
Coming from MLM where "personal branding" is becoming a trend, I got a domain name registered exactly in my name, GomerMagtibay.com. It used to be parked, until one day I decided to point the nameservers to WA and install wordpress.
Build a blog on it instead of just leave it parked.
Along the process, I realized it is actually harder to build a blog without a niche, like a personal blog functioning like a diary. And it is especially true when you're not yet famous, like those big gurus and movie stars.
Now...
Who will be my audience?
What should I write?
Where will I promote my posts?
How will I generate traffic?
How will I monetize the blog?
For someone who's building a niche blog, these questions can easily be answered.
But, when you're building up a personal blog, you will realize it is actually harder to build up a personal blog.
And, harder to rank!
Really challenging.
And, I feel I'm stuck!
Good thing, I have you guys, the WA community.
With this, any help or suggestions from you are welcome. Feel free to post them below, it will help me, as well as those people facing the challenge of building up a personal blog.

Hey Gomer,
T'was my personal blog where I Made affiliate money ACCIDENTALLY! At first, whenever a couple of friends (or acquaintances) asked me something specific, I'd make a blog post about it figuring others would ask ... and wanna' know 'bout the same thing.
My personal blog is by far NOT a diary but "Trish's treasure trove of tantalizing topics". It's where I share favourite recipes, rants, health tips, things that happened to my Nugget, saying good-bye to a great neighbour who moved away ... you name it, it's there.
As for blogging regularly on my personal blog ... now I post an article when the need arises. Mind you, my site is now several years old and gets ranked high for several different posts rather than the actual site itself.

UPDATE:
I found a post online about building up a personal blog, and the tips are great. I'm digesting the thoughts right now. By the way, here's the post:
http://cursivecontent.com/10-dos-and-donts-for-the-personal-blogger/
My blog is like a personal diary, but since it involves traveling, I mention things like travel tips and provide links to companies I used on my travels.
So that means, even if it is a personal blog, it's operates like it's having niche which is "traveling". Since I am just here at home sitting in front of my computer whole day, that's where the bottle neck comes in.
It seems to me that the whole point of you doing this is because you want to try something different. You want to take a different approach than a niche blog or authority blog or whatever you want to call it, serious stuff. Am I wrong?
So, just writing about your interest or hobby is good. That said, at least there have to be affiliate products if you want to make money. So, I understand you're stuck.
Yes, exactly! You're correct. I've changed themes many times already all in the span of 3 days, as I was confused what to focus, what topic to focus on.
Thanks for the suggestion. Well taken. :)
I'd like to update you guys that I tried getting feedback using Site Feedback here:
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/website-feedback
To my dismay, we can't customize what kind of feedback we want to request, only choices in the drop down menu, and sad to say, the exact feedback that I want is not found in the menu either.
So, this leaves me with only two options to get feedback now:
1. Here
2. And in the Live Chat
Or maybe, what I am seeking is not a feedback, but rather, an advice from you guys? Or, suggestions?
You want site feedback? That's more for content and design. I'll check out your blog and we'll chat ;-)
I see.. Thanks for the feedback. I think most of the free themes available here in WA are not mobile friendly! LOL
Okay, let me see if I can fix it with a plugin that I know capable of making a "non-mobile friendly site" become "mobile friendly".
(WP Touch Mobile)

Hey man.
I see this post was made in 2016. Do you still run a personal blog?
I've been thinking about starting a personal blog using my name as the domain!
Let me know how the personal blog has gone for you :)
Thanks,
Jennell.
