Don't Be a Pig

I actually think pigs are adorable creatures.

But YOU shouldn't be a pig.

Let me explain.

The Strangest Secret

I was out for my walk this morning as usual. I always listen to motivation and inspiring things to get ideas flowing and to help me stay excited about the future.

Today I was listening to Earl Nightingale's "The Strangest Secret."

I've certainly heard of this, especially through listening to Bob Proctor, but for some reason I never listened to it fully myself.

(I HIGHLY recommend, by the way. Here it is on YouTube. I'll get back to this in a minute because there are some great, actionable steps you can follow to reach your goals.)

After this, I started listening to another recording by Earl.

He started talking about "The Goldmine".

He said, "The Pulitzer-Prize-winning playwright Archibald MacLeish in his play, The Secret of Freedom wrote, 'The only thing about a man that is a man is his mind. Everything else you can find in a pig, or a horse.'"

While pigs and horses are beautiful creatures, they don't have the minds that we have.

Earl goes on to say, "The key to every man's success lies in his mind, the goldmine between his ears."

Unfortunately, many of us are not using our minds to their fullest capabilities, and therefore we are not being much different from a pig or a horse.

We Become What We Think About

The mind and mindset is one of my favorite subjects. (You can see I wrote about it recently.) I just think it's fascinating to see what we can create with our minds.

I think it's even more fascinating that we don't use our minds, even though we can use them to get exactly what we want in life.

This is what Earl tries to tell us in "The Strangest Secret".

He says, "We become what we think about."

Getting what you want through using your mind is actually not a secret at all. It's been talked about since the beginning of time.

Yet, most people just conform to what the masses are doing and don't think. They don't use their minds to get what they want.

I think you all are different though. Just the fact that you're on Wealthy Affiliate means you're doing something the masses aren't doing.

I think that's why I like it here so much. I've always been a little "weird" and never wanted to do things like everyone else. (I love being called weird!! How about you?)

Our Mind & Thoughts Are Like a Garden

If you plant a corn seed in a garden, you'll get a stalk of corn. If you plant a seed of deadly nightshade in a garden, you'll get a deadly nightshade plant.

The soil does not care what you plant.

Your mind is like the soil.

You can plant positive thoughts, and that's what will grow. Or, you can plant negative thoughts, and that's what will grow. Your mind does not care what's planted there. It just delivers back what you give it.

This is YOUR choice.

How to Get Results - Pay the Price

Earl says that in order to get what we want, we must be willing to pay the price. For instance, if you want to be a medical Doctor you pay the price by going through years of schooling and training.

He says we must pay the price for getting what we want by:

1. Understanding emotionally and literally that we become what we think about. (We need to control our thoughts. THIS is our hardest work.)

2. Realizing your limitations are self-imposed.

3. Using all your courage to think positively on your own problem. Set a clearly defined goal for yourself and let your marvelous mind think about your goal from all possible angles.

4. Save at least 10% of what you earn.

5. Take action on your ideas!

(I had an idea to write this post when I was on my walk, and now I'm taking action on it. I hope that it will be of SERVICE to some of you. See more about that in a minute...)

Earl's 30-Day Experiment

Write exactly what you want on a card. (This is something I do, and I usually just use a note card.) This can be ANYTHING. My card talks about getting to Vegas through Wealthy Affiliate.

Make it a single, specific goal. (You NEED to have a specific goal so that you can map out how to get there. This is like when you travel. You have to know where you're going, otherwise you can't see the steps of how to get to your destination.)

Carry it with you and read it several times per day. Read it as soon as you wake up and think of it as something to get out of bed for. (It should be an exciting goal that makes you want to spring out of bed every morning!)

When you look at, remember that...

You MUST BECOME what you think about.

This is powerful, people!

Now Earl says the tough part comes...Stop thinking about what it is that you fear.

Do this for 30 days so that it becomes a habit. Then do it for 30 more days. And another 30.

He also says to give MORE of yourself for these 30 days. Do more than you normally do. Do more than what's asked of you. The rewards will come back!

Be of Service

Our financial return will be in direct proportion to our service. Put the service in FIRST, then expect money. This is like a wood stove. You wouldn't expect heat BEFORE you put the wood in.

Anyone who contributes to prosperity must proper himself / herself.

(This is why I love Wealthy Affiliate. This platform is about showing others how to prosper. And by showing others this site and how to prosper, WE also prosper. )

Your success will always be measured by the quality and quantity of service that you render.

You always get back what you put out.

So make sure you're putting out good stuff so you can get good stuff back! I'm going to go ahead and link Tiffany's post here from the other day:

Should You Build Your Affiliate Business on Lies?

and Nathaniell's:

The Result of Shady Backlinks Over 5 Years

Now get out there and THINK! Listen to "The Strangest Secret" (daily if you have to) and move TOWARD your goals. The only one stopping you is YOU.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! Leave me comments below.

Hi Christina, another great post! I did follow the YouTube link and actually sat and listened to the whole thing.

My 30 days start today!!!

Bob

That's excellent, Bob!!

Can't wait to hear how it goes!

- Christina

I’ll end up blogging here when the 30 days are done... 😀👍

Perfect!

- Christina

I had listened to Strangest Thing before, Thank you for the reminder.
Sandy

Great, Sandy! You might want to give it another listen. I, for one, will be listening to that one a lot.

- Christina

Christina, now I understand why I like you and your writing so much. We are operating on the same frequency.

I must admit that I like pigs so much that I have a baby pig picture as my cell phone background image.

I've been trying to listen to Earl Nightingale's recording on YouTube at least once a week. I just heard the version talking about the difference between us and a pig or horse last week.

This comparison is especially relevant because pigs are supposed to be one of the smartest mammals alive. Even smarter than dogs.

My desire is that Earl Nightingale and Bob Proctor's words become so ingrained into my memory that I follow their advise without even thinking about it.

Your post does an excellent job of summarizing the most important highlights.

I also like the two links to Tiffany and Nathaniel's posts that you shared. They both highlight the importance of planting good seeds if we want to build a sustainable business.

Best wishes!

Nice Sondra, we are definitely on the same frequency! I love it!

I absolutely love pigs and horses. Baby pigs are the cutest things ever. And yes, they are very smart creatures.

But they're still as smart as us. (Sometimes that's a good thing, and sometimes that's a bad thing. lol)

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.

If you ever have good suggestions along the lines of Earl Nightingale / Bob Proctor, I'd love to hear it. I'm always looking for new (or old) stuff!

- Christina

P.S. I also highly recommend the book "Your Invisible Power" by Genevieve Behrend.

I'll have to check out the book. Thanks.

Have you thought about signing up for Bob Proctor's affiliate program? I think it might be a nice compliment to WA promotions.
It fits my already existing MMO website strategy perfectly.

They have a paradigm shift course coming up next month. I've taken the video version of it - twice.

Any way, last night, I watched one of their affiliate marketing training videos. It was cool to see how smoothly they worked the principles that he (Bob Proctor) teaches into building a successful affiliate marketing business.

It was one hour video. On that particular video, Peggy McColl was the guest speaker. It was worth the time.

Even if you are not interested in his program, you might be able to find the training videos via his affiliate marketing link.

Haha, already on it! I need to go through and work in Bob Proctor's stuff more, but yes, I'm an affiliate.

I actually won a streaming ticket to Paradigm Shift that they held last summer (I think?) and it was incredible. I would LOVE to go there live.

Peggy McColl is one of the best people to listen to. I would love to take her writing course one of these days. I listened to a seminar with her where she told the story of how she got her house.

Did you hear that one? Absolutely incredible!

- Christina

Streaming ticket...that was the word I was looking for. Congrats on winning your ticket.

I don't think I heard Peggy's story about her house.

I do remember Sandy Gallagher's story about her getting her house. It was especially memorable because it shows that ALL of us can have doubts at times. Even if we know we need to think positive and believe.

I would like to do a live seminar with Bob Proctor before it's too late. He won't be with us forever. Maybe we will see each each other twice next year? At Vegas and then a Proctor event.

Sandy's house story is GREAT, but Peggy's is even better. I'll see if I can find where I heard it and PM it to you.

And you are so right about Bob not being here forever. He's in his mid-80s now. I think about that a lot. I really want to see him live. That would be fun if we met up for that too! ;)

- Christina

Thanks!

Of course I can't find it now! It's on one of the seminars on YouTube, I just can't figure out which one.

- Christina

It's all about mindset, I agree. Thanks for sharing, Christina.

Mindset is the MOST important thing to reach success, in my opinion. Everything else falls into place after.

- Christina

Love, love, love your post and saving it so that I can read it again...it has also given me some ideas for my next Toastmasters speech. Thank you and I like being weird with you 😊😉

Yes! I always love finding weird people to connect with!

I'm so happy this gave you an idea for Toastmasters! I used to belong to that a long time ago. How long have you been a member?

- Christina

I love The Strangest Secret. It really helped me out a few years ago. Thanks for the reminder.

My pleasure!

- Christina

Christina you rock! Bob Proctor was my personal mentor for years and I taught his programs to small groups. I am aware of the wisdom of Earl Nightengale. I love everything you have shared here.
Thank you for bringing this information to everyone here at WA. AND FOR REMINDING ME OF MY THOUGHTS!!!!! So Grateful. Linda

Bob Proctor is my personal mentor too, he just doesn't know it. lol. I think he's AMAZING and I listen to him often.

And then I start to listen to the people that influenced him. There is so much great information out there.

- Christina

EXCELLENT post. Must say I've never heard of "The Strangest Secret" but I'm one of those "weird" people too (that's how I was given the title of sui generis by friends) so I'll have to check it out.

~Debbi

Definitely give it a listen! It's not very long, only a little over 30 minutes.

I admit it. I had to look up "sui generis". But yes, that's great! It's great to be sui generis. lol

- Christina

Not to worry. I had to look it up too. I didn't know if I should say thank you or be offended. lol

A great post! Goals are so important and you gave us some great tips! Much success to you!!

Thanks, and to you too!

- Christina

Excellent post title Christina. We love both Earl and Bobs stuff too.

Thanks, I thought it might get some attention. ;)
