2 important lessons WA taught me to help increase my income

I have been a WA member for a long time, and there are 2 lessons I learned here early on that I have never forgotten.

These 2 things have helped me recently increase my income from around $1.00 - $8.00 to now making over $500 (and going up).

Here are my earnings from Medium from April to December 2023 (these don't include some affiliate sales I've made):

First, a little background into my new system:

Instead of focusing all of my content on my Wordpress site, I changed up my system recently, and it's been working great. (The two things WA taught me are vital no matter what platforms and systems you use.)

This is my system:

  1. I write my blog articles on Medium.
  2. In my blog articles, I promote my newsletter. (My landing page is hosted on my Wordpress site.)
  3. AND my newsletter promotes my Medium articles. (The more reads you get, the more Medium will pay you.)
  4. My newsletter includes affiliate offers.

It's super simple and it's working well for me. I like Medium because there's already a built-in audience, and I've had an easier time growing there than any other platform. (Note: I don't get any money for promoting Medium. I just really like it!)

The 2 most important things I've learned from WA

Without these 2 things, I would not be getting the increasing success I've been getting. I learned these straight from the beginner's training:

  1. Be consistent. Write consistently to train your followers and the search engines that you always have updated and fresh content. I started writing consistently on Medium in November, and that's when my income (and my newsletter subscribers) began to increase.
  2. When people comment on your posts, make sure to comment back. This has been a big one for me. I always comment back when people take the time to comment on my work. This was drilled into my head here at WA and it's been a game changer. This makes people trust you and want to connect with you more.

Maybe you're already doing both of these things. If you are, that's awesome! I bet you're seeing great results.

If you're not, I encourage you to make these two small changes. I started writing articles (almost) daily, but you don't need to do that. Just be consistent. If you choose 3 times a week, stick with that.

I never used to be consistent, and I didn't think it mattered that much, but it matters a LOT. You want to put out quality articles, but quantity is important too.

One more thing...

Something I learned along the way...it's easy to write consistently when you enjoy what you're writing about.

If you're not enjoying the things you're writing about, you may want to consider changing niches. It's too hard to write when you don't really want to. If you're only writing to make money, you're going to have a hard time. At least, that's been my experience.

Now I enjoy writing, and I get positive comments like this all the time:

I hope this is helpful for some of you!

Thank you, Christina, I have always had a downer on Medium, and although I write articles I have never been consistent or taken it seriously. However, having read this article I am reconsidering Medium to promote my digital products. To be fair I have been considering it for a month, but today I am going to write an article. I have always understood being consistent, now is the time to put my money where my mouth is. Just as an aside I have never used Diane's strategy of condensing an original article, although I don't see why it won't work. I have written directly in Medium

Consistency was key for me, and I think that's a huge factor that a lot of writers miss on there.

Let me know your username on there and I'll give you a follow.

Good morning Christina,

Your strategy sounds very interesting, it's amazing what different members do to boost their income. I always feel that our website should be our priority as we never know if these platforms will ban us or disappear, especially if it's Facebook!

I have never used medium.com, but Diane wrote an interesting post a few days ago about the subject.

I agree with you, consistency is a massive key! All the successful Internet marketers that I have known over the years are consistent.

You must be one of the longest-standing Wealthy Affiliate members; well done for hanging in there.

Wishing you all the best.

Roy

I'll have to check out what Diane wrote about Medium.

It's good to have a website and house our content there, but then we're at the mercy of Google and its algorithms, and that doesn't always work out. (Learned that the hard way!)

I love WA and the community here. Plus, they host all my websites, so I'm stuck! haha

Here is the link to Diane's blog post, Christina. This training from Vitaliy may also be helpful. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm going to, as I really have no idea how medium.com works. I will put the link below. I understand where you're coming from regarding Google, etc.

I agree with you; Wealthy Affiliate is a great platform with great members! I have been on the platforms for just over nine years now.

A very happy weekend to you.

Roy

Thanks for sharing these, Roy!

It's a pleasure, Christina! I hope you find them helpful.

A very happy Sunday to you.

Roy

To watch this video, you must be a premium plus member.

Rudy

Sorry Rudy, to be fair, I always forget to check that!

I hope you're doing okay, Rudy and that business is going well.

Have a great day.

Roy

No worries, Roy. And thanks for asking, im foing well and business has picked up!

Rudy

That's good to hear, Rudy, it's always good when business picks up!

Out of interest, have you tried the premium plus membership? There is some good training on there. However, there is also some great training on the premium membership.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Roy

Yes, indeed, business is good!

And I have not considered going to premium plus because Im grandfathered into the original premium ( before prem plus was introduced).

Some of the pplus trainings are ones that everyone can benefit, especially because they provide more than a basic training, and some questions may be answered.

Yet, none that I would consider going to plus.

Jaaxy serves me well, too.

Rudy

I'm grandfathered in at a good price too for Premium, so I'm in the same boat!

I was actually creating a video today, Rudy, about Wealthy Affiliate and I mentioned about the premium plus and how it was relatively new. I'm guessing it was first introduced around three years ago, although I know time goes quickly!

I also mentioned that I felt people were better off sticking to the premium membership rather than having information overload. Especially in the early days, as the extra training can potentially sidetrack you rather than following the plan.

So, I do understand where you are coming from.

Roy

Wow, it's been three years now since pplus started? My how time flies...

Rudy

I could be wrong, Rudy, but I think it's probably something like that!

I agree, time does fly!

Have a great day.

Roy

Interesting strategy there.

I used to focus ALL my writings on WA when I started to.

Now I spend more time on social. (FB, LinkedIn, Threads)

Published some articles on Medium too.

I also have an email list growing.

Just curious, did you manage to authenticate your domain for DMARC/DKIM?

I have a problem doing so with WA. Am using GetResponse for email marketing.

Appreciate some insights if you manage to fix it.

Thanks.

I haven't even looked into that DMARC/DKIM thing yet. I'm not that technical, so I think I'm going to be lost.

Well, if you're emailing subscribers from providers like Mailchimp, you might want to check it out.

Because next month, domains that are not verified for DMARC/DKIM might get their emails bounced.

It means that some of your subscribers may not be getting their news letters.

That's what I understood.

OK thanks for letting me know. I email through ConvertKit, so I'm sure it's the same for them.

Excellent words of wisdom Christina!

Persistent and consistent is the way to go my friend! :-)

Absolutely! Those words are seared into my brain now. :)

Mine as well my friend! :-)

Great.
To get medium, you need good traffic I heard. How much traffic do you need?

I'm not sure what you mean. Anyone can sign up for Medium. You do have to pay $5 a month to get access to all the articles, but otherwise, you don't need anything else.

(I'm pretty sure you can still make money even if you don't have a paid account, but I'd have to look into a little more to make sure.)

Sorry for my misunderstanding. I thought it was the ads company which has a similar name!
That was my mistake, sorry.

No worries!
